Texas Faith: Is the 2012 election serving the common good?

Comments Off on Texas Faith: Is the 2012 election serving the common good?

As a way of introducing
this week’s question, I want to announce that our next Texas Faith public forum
will be held on Thursday, September 27. Bill Lawrence and the Perkins School of
Theology will be hosting the event at SMU’s Prothro Hall. The session will
start at 7 p.m. and run until 8:30 p.m. I will send out a reminder later this
month, but hope you can put the date on your calendar. And, as I have mentioned
before, everyone will get a chance to participate on a panel as we roll these
out. For this session, Bill, Katie Sherrod, Dwight McKissic, Mike Ghouse,
Gordon Wright and George Mason will lead the discussion, which will focus on
whether the election is furthering the common good, and how it can do so
better. I will moderate. If Wayne is able, he will make it up from Austin.
With that in mind, I
would like each of you to provide your thoughts about:
1. Is this election
furthering the national common good? If so, how?
2. How do you think it
could better serve the good of America?
MIKE GHOUSE, President, Foundation for Pluralism,
Dallas
This particular election
is highlighting the perverse things about politics as well as the common good
that can be had through the process. It is time to seriously think about the
purpose of the elected; to serve the people or those who put them up to serve
their specific interests?

The national common good
is here to stay, and no one can shake the foundation of our nation. Our systems
are firmly rooted in our constitution and neither the right nor the left will
dare touch it, although they mess with it from time to time… However, the
Majority of the Americans will get back at the rascals on November 6, 2012, as
they have done in eliminating the ones who did not represent the common good of
the populace.
The loosening of campaign
finance is like a leash-less dog hounding people to mend. Whoever throws the most
money can create false or truthful impressions to gain support. Neither Obama
nor Romney are scoring points on their own merits, but rather on what the other
guy does not have, at the end both will be stripped from whatever good they
have.
The rich are investing
in a marketable commodity called President, hoping to reap the rewards later. The
oil companies and Wall Streeters can throw millions of dollars into the race,
it is a paltry sum to them, and they expect their man to make things easy for
them. Obama had his day, and now the bones are thrown at Romney. Superpacs need
to go.

To protect the common good of our nation, we need to investigate each bill
passed, and why it passed – did it serve common good or can the passing be
traced to money’s showered on the Senators and Congresspersons? Should we keep
them?
 There is a petition out there, which I have signed;
in fact someone beat me to it. If Obama or Romney shoots his mouth off in the
debates, let the giant screen show it to them that they do not have their
facts. Here is an opportunity to bring common goodness to the election process.
The strength of our democracy is based on people
voting their conscience, rather than bullied, induced or influenced into party
loyalties.

Romney, there you go again!

Comments Off on Romney, there you go again!

http://nabsites.net/demo/romney-there-you-go-again/

Romney:
Hey Carl, did you watch the DNC convention? They had every American
representation speak out there, boy, if Americans watched that they will not
vote for me?
Rove:
Why would you say that?
Romney:
They see the damned facts; Obama saved the country from a free fall.
Rove:
There you go again, you should have thought about it, we cannot accept your
flip flop Mitt,  it is too late!
Ryan:
Mitt Uncle, don’t worry, we will scare the devil out of Americans, we will frighten
the day lights out of them, and we can win!
Romney:
Paul, we can’t, it is a fact that  Obama has prevented the country from a disaster.
Rove:
Mitt, leave it to me, we will dig up the flip flops of Obama and hit him hard
and make him  squeal.
Romney:  Carl, don’t you dare that, I will outscore
him on that count.
Ryan:
Mitt Uncle, if you give up on you, why should Americans vote for you? No, you got
me in this crap, let’s fight this out. We can bull through, no one will check
the facts.
Rove:
Let’s promise some more tax cuts, let the damned rich invest in you, pour a
billion more dollars, we will flood the airwaves of this socialist creep taking over our fortunes.
Romney:
Why did we mess it up in our convention? Did you see their convention, every
American, every ethnicity was there, we are doomed Carl, I did not realize we were
exclusive and pushed out minorities and other ethnicity.
Rove:
Mitt, we did have the tokens, let’s highlight them in our spots, let the billionaires pay for it, don’t you spend your money on it, we get the suckers to pay for it.
Romney:
Guess what guys, let me be, me again; let’s just announce
No government intervention, let people marry whom they want;
let’s not control women and their rights to own their own bodies;
let’s really believe in freedom of religion,
let’s not repeal Obama care, it will kill us

Rove:
Mitt, there you go again
Romney:
Damn it, their former President stood up for Obama!

Rove: Shhhhhh, don’t you bring that up, sorry to cut you in.

Romney: Why can’t Bush do that for me? After all I have all his gang working
for me.

Rove:
There you go again, Mitt. You don’t get it, do you! Let’s rally our base, frighten them that Obama will give away the country to United Nation.

Romney: Public knows, that is not true unless both the house support it!

Rove: Mitt, Public does not know it, they believe those who scare them, and those who promised them the safety and secured of mother’s lap.
Dialogue continues……..

Democratic National Convention, Charlotte NC

Comments Off on Democratic National Convention, Charlotte NC

 Being
a Pluralist and an inclusive individual, I do have identifications but have no boundaries;
nothing divides me and another person. I watched the Republican National Convention
last week and this week, I will be watching some of the DNC proceedings as I
have a big event next Tuesday in Dallas.
The
diversity of audience and speakers makes you feel home with the DNC, and I wish
Republican Party also works on being inclusive, although there is no such
policy to exclude anyone, but the leadership rhetoric keeps most people away
and now their platform really does push people out, no one at the party cares
about inclusiveness.

The speakers at DNC were mesmerizing, I watched every speaker, and each one of
them was good and had a heart touching story. Gov. Lincoln Chafee of RI,
reflected pretty much my views, I am a Moderate Republican and he was one too,
he could not relate with the party anymore and went on to become independent.
Ted Strickland, former Gov of Ohio delivered an impactful speech. The San
Antonia Mayor Julian Castro moved the people, he truly is a rising star and has
great communication skills like Obama, as a matter of fact, he has similar
mannerisms. It was an incredible speech, and Michelle Obama capped it off well,
sharing about the man Obama, what he is made of. She moved everyone in the
audience. I had really not watched her speak before; but she is one hell of a
good speaker.

The
only criticism I have was a sentence uttered by Julian Castro – when he said my
mother worked hard – she wanted me to hold this microphone instead of the
broomstick, as if holding the broomstick was a lesser value.  He could have said, she is joyous for his transition
from broomstick to microphone.
All
the speeches were uplifting.

A for Michelle Obama, Julian Castro, Gov. Chafee, Gov. Strickland, Lihn, Gov.
Patrick,

B for Minnesota Mayor Rybak, Congressman Jared, Nancy Keenan, Tammy Duckworth,
Gov OMalley

C
for Rahm Emanuel, Kathleen Sebelius and others.

Republicans for Obama

Comments Off on Republicans for Obama

Our nation is in crisis, we need to put politics aside and focus on building the nation.  What is good for America has got to be good for every American.

I have been a Republican in every sense of the party. However, the party has been taken over by radical men and women who are bent on destroying the cohesive fabric of America.  I will not run from it: instead I will stick with them and hope to raise hell and bring sanity.

Without Obama, we would have gone into wars with every nation out there and ruined the life of the average American.  Without Obama, we will go further down the tube, while right-wingers have safe havens to live from. It is time for us to start thinking of America first and the average American’s life first. Prosperity needs to come to every American, not just the top 1% of Americans blessed with wealth.

Michelle Obama's rightful pride

Comments Off on Michelle Obama's rightful pride

On November 4, 2008, the world lifted itself to a new level of civilization. Fifty years ago, no one could have imagined a African-American person (representing the governed) would be honored in this fashion. Of course, to bring about this change, every race, faith and ethnicity worked on it together.

As First Lady, Michelle Obama said she felt proud of America, indeed every one in the world felt the same, it was a new milestone in the ladder of civilization. America had always led the world in religion, society, science and medicine, and electing Obama was a giant step for the mankind and our civilization.  Even Clint Eastwood said, he cried at the milestone. It was a powerful event in the history of humanity.

Are we better off now than four years ago?

Comments Off on Are we better off now than four years ago?

Are we better off now than 4 years ago?

I shudder at the thought of America, had McCain become the president. I know Mr. McCain’s proclivities, itching for war, and eagerness to show “them boys” who we are. He would have gone to war with Libya, Tunisia, Yemen, Egypt, Syria and Iran and no doubt we would have carpet bombed and burned those nations to the ground, but it would have ruined America, even more than the Iraq war had done. We would have been devastated. At least I have an America now that did not run aground, thanks to President Obama’s foreign policy.

WILL we be better off 4 years from now?

It was Bush’s reckless war mongering that got us into trouble in the first place. We forget that it was Bush who signed a $700 billion bail out for Wall Streeters so they could pay bonuses to the CEO’s of failing banks.

If Romney becomes  the president, we are doomed. His war mongering will destroy us and wipe out the average American family.  However nothing will happen to him, like the Bush-Cheney team, they have their own safe havens. The average American will not have a job, a home, no food stamps and no health care.

As a Republican myself, a Romney presidency frightens me. He is a ruthless business man and his attitude would be, if you are sick, take care of yourselves, government is not in the business of taking care of you. I’m afraid it is a game of survival of the fittest. Maybe he is invincible like some of the right-wingers, but most Americans are vulnerable at one time or another in their lives. You will not even have food stamps to rely on.

His effort to appease Netanyahu and his ilk (Not Israel, as Netanyahu does not represent the will of the majority of the people of Israel or Jews around the world), he may give a green signal to Israel to bomb Iran. What Bush did to America, Romney will double it. The average American gets the shaft, while these guys have safe heavens to live in.

A dozen serious questions for Romney!

Comments Off on A dozen serious questions for Romney!

Republican Presidential
nominee, Mitt Romney did deliver a good speech; indeed I remained connected with
him throughout the speech. It sounded
great, but not sure if it is merely a talk like Obama’s good talk four years
ago.

Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney –
Republican nominess

I have some sever questions
for Mr. Romney, his answers might change the minds of many like me, I am a
Moderate Republican who has reluctantly chosen to vote for Obama, not because he
is any better, but because he will do least harm to the nation between the two
of them. I wish I had more choices.

I shudder with the thought of
America, had McCain become the president, I know Mr. McCain’s proclivities and
itching for war, and eagerness to show
them boys who we are, he would have gone to war with Libya, Tunisia, Yemen,
Egypt and Syria. No doubt Libya would have been carpet bombed and burned to the
ground, but it would have ruined America, more than the Iraq war has done to us.
At least I have an America now that did not run aground with Obama’s foreign
policy.

Do you know what the useless wars have done to us? Not you Mr. Romney, you are secure in your
safe havens, but a majority of Americans are not – 43 Million of us. McCain would have destroyed all of Libya and
Egypt, but more than that he would have destroyed us Americans in order to get
just one idiot Gaddafi or save one dictator Mubarak. Thank God, we have a
president who got the looney Bin Laden without the collateral damage to anyone.
Can you outperform Obama in Syria and Iran?
Mr. Romney, you are itching
for a war with Iran, and to gain momentary support from a few, you will destroy
everyone in the process including our allies. We have a history of setting up
that precedent ten years ago. When was the last time CIA or Mossad had provided
absolutely reliable information to justify a damned war?

War will do
more harm to us than the ones we intend to afflict, unless they are just wars
like preventing Nazis from annihilating Jews, preventing Serbs from cleansing
Muslims and preventing Saddam form usurping Kuwait. Spend that damned money in friendships instead
of aggravating hostilities and keeping everyone in tension. When we are friends,
we are less likely to harm the other, but when we are enemies, both of us will
have the will to be evil.

Your success is inspiring,
and I hope it will be replicated around America. However, I have a few severe
questions for you.
  • Mitt, will you truly run
    America as a business?
  • Mitt, do you know
when to fold and when to run?

  • Mitt, would you go
to a war if it means deaths of thousands of fellow Americans?

  • Mitt, would you let
a war run up our debt and deficits and ruin the nation?

  • Mitt, would you cut
our allies off, if they become a burden on us?

  • Mitt, would you
honor the inalienable rights of individual whom they marry?

  • Mitt, would you
preserve the in-alienable rights of women, should they decide not to carry the
baby out of incest or rape?

  • Mitt, would you
stand up for every American’s freedom of Religion?

  • Mitt, do you have
the balls to change the Republican platform?

  • Mitt, would you let
an American die because he or she cannot afford to pay?

  • Mitt, are you
another politician in the guise of a business man?

  • Mitt, how do I know
    you will do all this?

Mitt, I am not sure if I can
trust you with people’s lives, because life is not a business.

A Tribute to Rev. Sun Myung Moon

Comments Off on A Tribute to Rev. Sun Myung Moon
When
I heard the news of Reverend Moon’s ascension, the Muslim in me responded
instantly, “Inna Lillahi O Inna Ilahi-ur rajeeoon” from God we come and to God
we go. Indeed, the divine principle he taught was all about being home with God;
reconnecting with the creator. When Bishop Mark Hernandez conveyed that message
within hours of the ascension of the reverend on Sunday, Dallas (Monday Midnight
in Korea) I sat down and reflected on the work of Reverend Moon and prayed for
his soul.

Reverend
Moon was prepared and was ready for the journey, a few years ago, I heard him,
and he had already passed the responsibility to his son and the daughter. This
is an enriching experience for me; when my mother took the journey some ten
years ago, she tied all the loose ends of life, and that was one of the most
beautiful lessons of my life. I was able to do the same, with my late wife some
five years ago by tying the loose ends of life for her. She left in
peace like an accomplished person and it was a source of inspiration to me.

I
have witnessed two people go in peace accomplishing Nirvana, Mukti and
Salvation. And here is another soul, Reverend Sam Myung Moon, who had tied the
loose ends, cleaned his slate on the earth and embarked on the journey of
reuniting with God. The feeling is mixed – one of them is inspirational wanting
my life to come to a conclusion in such a beautiful way. Blessed
are the peacemakers!

Way back in the mid nineties, I took on the mission
of learning and sharing the essence of each religion, it was a fascinating
discovery to see religion from a laypersons point of view, rather Mr.Spock’s
point of view. Every week I shared the essence of each faith with my radio
audience, and I wrote it in the newspaper I published.

Glory
to god, out of nowhere, I was receiving emails from a Moon something about the
things I was talking and writing – it was like the divine paving the way for me.
The emails were about each aspect of life and included quotes from different
religions, I was thrilled and was on cloud 9. Then the emails stopped, my saved
up emails on my Macintosh were frozen. I was devastated.

Reverend
Mark Hernandez heard me on WBAP AM Radio 820 in September 2005, inviting the
public to join us for the Unity Day USA event on September 11, he came, and we
talked. I literally screamed with joy knowing that it was the same Moon, that
Mark was inviting me to meet. A compilation of world scriptures will remain his
legacy to the world. I have met with Reverend and Mrs. Hak Ja Han Moon several
times since then and have met three of his sons and the daughter In Jin Moon,
all committed to the mission of their father.

I
have heard all the myths about the movement, but just want to affirm that in the
seven years I have been associated with the group, they never asked me to
convert, not even a hint. Reverend Moon has done nothing but good for the
humanity and peace.

Reverend Moon’s work for humanity is exemplary; he is
committed to peace between North and South Korea, and Israel and Palestine. He
was also considering enabling the United Nations to understand and resolve the
religious conflicts before they exploded into genocides and
massacres.

I
am rededicating the site “Standing up for others” – http://standingupforothers.blogspot.com,

Reverend
Sun Myung Moon ascended to heaven on Sunday, September 2, 2012. I have written
many articles about his teachings and planning to write a full tribute to his
work after the Unity Day event on September 11,
2012.

May
God bless him. Amen
