Poisoning your Kids

Comments Off on Poisoning your Kids

Do you have the right to screw up your children’s lives by poisoning them against fellow humans, in our case, fellow Americans?  If you are biased towards others, that is entirely up to you, but you have the choice to free yourself and enjoy the rest of your life or carry it to your grave or crematorium.

A doctor kid, a son of my friends’ friend, was a guest at my condo for a few weeks while attending meetings related to his residency. At the end of his stay – he said, “I wish my parents had not poisoned me against Blacks, Muslims, Christians, and Jews; everything I heard from them turned out to be false.” He continued, “I have lived in dorms with others, and now with you, they were plain wrong.”

He agreed, when you are biased towards others, it affects your work performance. Your relationship with fellow workers will not be hunky-dory.  You keep a reserve with and subconsciously you don’t trust and share everything with them.  That attitude reduces your contribution to your work noticeably, and you will not be able to serve your employer with full integrity. Then when you go home, you are not giving 100% to your family either.

Let me share an often repeated story – Two Buddhist monks and a pregnant woman were waiting to cross a stream that was overflowing. After several hours of hopelessly waiting, the two decided to walk through the stream, the woman asked if one of them can carry her on their back to the other end.  The monks looked at each other, they were not supposed to touch or feel a woman’s body, the senior monk decided to carry her anyway.

The senior monk dropped her on the other side of the stream, and as the two guys started walking, the junior questioned the senior. You were not supposed to feel the body of a woman and you did not set a good example, I was watching her body cling to yours.  The senior responded, “Look, I dropped that lady back there, but you are still carrying her on your mind.

You can extricate yourselves from such misery, breathe and live freely.  The teens want to know how to tell their parents to take a hike and not dump their baggage on them.

Yesterday (October 31, 2019), on the way home, my daughter and I stopped at an Indian Store in Hyattsville to pick up a few food items.

In the check-out line, a guy asked me where I lived? I said, in South East DC. The guy had an attitude and questioned – 38th Street? I responded, no, Alabama and MLK- he gauged me up and down ( https://portofharlem.net/snippets19/sep252019-move-black.html ), and moved out before I could lecture him. Some of the Indians carry that ideology of caste superiority and judge you by where you live. I understand the pain of the Dalits in India who have endured humiliation for centuries. It is time to change all that in the hearts and minds of people.

If the immigrants carry that attitude, when the times get tough, they could be the target of the wrath of native Americans, meaning those who were born and raised here.

At the counter, my daughter asked the cashier if they have a Pakola, a soft drink she likes. The guy reluctantly responded, “that’s a Pakistani drink.” As if it were a sin to ask for Pakola in the Indian store. Most stores carry drinks from all over the world. Of course, he has a choice to carry the product, but why carry that stinky attitude? He should remember that he abandoned Indian Citizenship to the American, as most of the immigrants do, and I believe to enjoy the fullness of being American, we should keep our home-grown-pettiness back home.

My question to the Indian and Pakistani Americans is this: when you chose to be an American Citizen, were you honest about it? Did you shed the baggage of anti-each other?

During the High school days, a Pakistani kid in Richardson Square mall harassed my son for his Indianness. Like most other kids, my son called him a Paki, and it took several conversations between us for him to see the other as a fellow American. I did not know the other kid, otherwise, I would have talked to his parents.  I did not want my kids to be biased against any human and thank God, and they have no prejudice against anyone. Let me add that I took them to every place of worship when they were kids, I wanted them to be open to people of all faiths including the LGBTQ community.

Whatever your heritage is, be it Israeli-Palestinian, English-French, Indian-Pakistani, Chinese-Taiwanese, Black-White, or anyone of the traditions from Atheism to Zoroastrianism, do you beef up the prejudices of your kids or mitigate them? You certainly can carry your prejudices to your grave, but please don’t poison your kids. You will be the loser; your kids will go along with you, but will not respect you and sometimes, will have nothing to do with you.

Remember, you are screwing up your child’s life in America, what if she/he has a chance to serve a branch of the US. Government, will he/she have the integrity to serve American interests to the best of the fair practices? Should your kid have the opportunity to be employed in such positions?  What if an Indian American is appointed as an Ambassador or an envoy to Pakistan, or a  Palestinian American is appointed to serve in Israel, will they carry the baggage their parents had dumped on them or do what is right for America?

Maybe we need to introduce a bill in the house, one must have a clean mind towards other people if they were to be employed in the government.

Becoming an American is to act in the interests of America. This can be applied in any country, the most important thing to understand is the five freedoms: religion, speech, press, assembly, the petition to the government.  Each human should have the freedom to eat, drink, wear, believe whatever the hell he or she wants to do in the pursuit of his/her life, liberty and happiness. Indeed, America’s prosperity hinges on such freedoms. There shall be no compulsion.

Let your child grow up as if he/she is going to run for the President of the United States and is willing to look to every American as a fellow American. Indeed, if we can learn to respect the otherness of the other and accept the (God/Genetic) uniqueness of each one of us, then conflicts fade and solutions emerge. Indeed,  the Indian-American congressmen are representing American values and doing everything that an American should do. I particularly commend Congressman Ro Khanna and Congresswoman Pramila Jaypal, they are good role models for Indian American kids. I am sure the others are equally good, but I have not studied them to write about them.

A meaningful thanksgiving

Comments Off on A meaningful thanksgiving

What can you do to make this Thanksgiving a meaningful holiday?

Do you recall a situation when you gave a gift or complimented someone, but they did not thank you? Did you feel something was missing? Later, if that person came back and said, thanks, did you feel a sense of completion to that transaction of giving and receiving? If your attitude was affected, it also got restored, didn’t it?

Likewise, if you hurt someone, and walk away, do you feel the incompleteness of the transaction? But when you say sorry to that person, the ‘bother’ escapes you, a burden off you.

As a spiritualist, I would say, for every wrong we do, an equal amount of energy drains from us, and for every good we do, energy recoups. We are continually receiving and giving energy, and the intake and outgo must be equal to have a healthy living, or else we are thrown off balance.

Thanksgiving day is an opportunity to square things, and express gratitude to those who have done some good to you; a word of encouragement, a smile, recommendation, a dollar when you needed, and all the little things. Our life scale tilts with those receivings – by giving to others, you will regain your balance.

The accountant chants the mantra that for every debit there is a credit; the physicist has proved that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and the doctor declares, that blood loss from the body of an individual must be replenished with blood to sustain life.

For every hurt we hurl on others, an equal amount of burden gets dumped on us, and until we say sorry and repent genuinely, the energy balance within us deteriorates. If you accumulate a whole lot of these incomplete transactions, it will have its effect on you. Today is one of the few days in a year, you have that opportunity, particularly with family.

Life is a self-balancing act; everything we do and say moves the needle from balance to imbalance, and back to balance.

The mechanism functions around forgiveness, repentance, service, and gratitude. These values are a product of co-existence inculcated through religious teachings; however, the atheists would also achieve the same without invoking God. If you wish to read the 12 values that make the world a better place, check out chapter 16 in the new book, American Muslim Agenda – available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kindle, and other outlets.

How can you make your holiday meaningful?

From the first breath to the last, we are walking on a thin wire. It is the act of falling in for temptations and resisting them, saying wrong words and apologizing, and it is about regretting and cherishing what is wrong and what is right. Life is about getting hurt and recovering, losing income and figuring out how to meet ends, falling into depression and getting out of it, feeling sad, and attempting to be happy.

Most of us succeed! We have seen bad days, and if we are stuck in it at this time, a year from now it will be our history.  We are alive today, aren’t we? All those good and bad happenings are a part of our story. We thought each one of the difficulties was unbearable, but we have endured all of them. Remember how many of them are bygones.

Expression of gratitude is the ultimate balancing act in everyone’s life. We know whom we receive the good from and offer our appreciation. The absence of a simple thank-you creates an imbalance in the relationship and spiritual energy, while a simple thank you restores it.

We need to be considerate of those who did not have a good childhood, youth, adulthood, or retirement. Let’s be kind to those who are struggling to take care of themselves and fighting for a square meal. The least we can do is show that know that we care.

There is no one out there who can claim that he or she walked into the world on his own, nor is there anyone who can say, I walked myself into the grave. We all need help and help others who need it. That’s how it functions.

 The least you can do:

Whenever you get a moment, start thinking about the people who helped you at home, school, workplace, public space, library, bus, metro, and other places. Please make an effort to review your life movie as you are driving, taking a shower or sitting on the crown.  Let it not be an effort, whoever comes to your mind is fine, if they don’t that’s fine too. You feel good about thinking about them; the mere thoughts are an expression of gratitude.  Those who have wronged you, forgive them, let them be free, but more than them, you will be free.

 The most you can do

Don’t lose enthusiasm due to a large number of people you have to thank, and you can do it by carrying a piece of paper and writing down the names as they pop in your mind. Even if you don’t get a chance to call everyone on the list, you have already expressed your gratitude by writing and thinking about them. When we show our appreciation to the person who has made a difference in our lives, it brings a ton of relief. It’s ours to keep. Call them a few if you can, just to thank you for a specific act, word or support. Keep it short – talk and listen in equal proportion.

If you don’t believe in God, that is fine, and it is still a release when you say thanks to the invisible good that came to you un-asked.

If you are a single or empty nester and nowhere to go, call up Salvation Army, a hospital or a homeless shelter and volunteer your services. There is joy in serving others.

As the Jewish Scriptures say, Ve’ahavta la’ger — you must love the stranger for that guaranteed happiness. Jesus reached out to the ones who were abandoned by society. Prophet Muhammad said the least you can give to others is a smile. The Hindu Scriptures guide you to treat the whole world as one family. Buddha, the learned one, taught the joys of living for others. The Sikh faith work on the principle of serving humanity. The Jains and Baha’i believe our happiness comes from taking care of others. The Native Americans and Wicca think we have to take care of what we see around us and preserve it for the next seven generations, life, and the matter. With malice toward none is good advice from Mahatma Lincoln to follow.

Happy Thanksgiving

Most people say thanks without fail, those who miss out on a few things; we have an opportunity to reflect on this Thanksgiving Day. When you express your gratitude to the persons who have made a difference in your life, it brings a ton of relief to you. Make an effort and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with it. May you be blessed to be a blessing to others. Amen! God bless America!

America is a successful nation

AMERICA IS A SUCCESSFUL NATION

What’s common to all the successful nations? It’s the rule of law! That’s what makes us a successful nation. In successful countries, each resident feels secure knowing there is equal justice for all. No one is more privileged than the other. The sense of comfort is the biggest Human asset We are blessed with.

If I were to be an Ambassador of the United States, I’ll hold weekly classes for the leaders in host nations to familiarize them with their families, and what it takes to build democratic institutions, and how the 5 freedoms are the basis for such success.

I’ll certainly show them the hearings we just concluded. Kavanaugh hearings, and senate confirmations. I’ll never put one party over the other, as both sides struggle to find the truth, no matter how painful it is. We are a great nation!

God bless America.

What do Parents want?

Comments Off on What do Parents want?

What parents wish is nothing different than what Children want – a little time with them; a few minutes of one-on-one with them.

When I was visiting my mother in India, she always asked me to spend time with her and I consistently ignored her. I did not give her the time she wanted. However, thanks to a wise man for giving me the right advice.

The last three times I visited her, I sat down next to her the moment I walked into the home. I would not disagree or argue with her, what was the need? She was the happiest person on the earth, and in turn, I was. I would listen to her attentively; nothing else was important to me but her.  The joy on her face was worth everything. If I have done anything right in my life, it was that time with her. That blessing has kept me floating.

All of us live with regrets and blessings, and within those limitations, we can carve out some tranquility by making time for the ones we care about. That’s is all everyone wants – a little one-on-one time.

My father and I had a great relationship, and I cherish every moment I have spent with him, even though we did not spend as much time together as we do with our kids here in the US. His mere presence meant everything to me. However, I regret, I did not get a chance to apologize to him for a few things I said to him in my teen years.

I have made a habit of asking for forgiveness from family and friends often, and have forgiven those who have hurt me as well. We need to do it more frequently. Let’s do it when we have a chance. Let’s try to keep our life slate as clean as we can.

Here is a powerful message from the Indian actor Dharmendra in Urdu-Hindi Language (video below). The essence of the conversation starts about his son, who is also an actor. He says I wish my son comes home and sits with me for a few minutes, and I want nothing more, that is all a father wants. But he is always busy with shooting, gives me a hug and runs. Dharmendra continues, I wish I had this realization when my father asked the same from me – I would have eased his pain then, and maybe I would not have had to endure it myself.

Here is my story – when my son was about 8 (or 10), he asked me, Dad, why do you work every day, why don’t you take time off and be home? I gave him the lousy answer. I am earning this for you. He said I don’t need your money, and when I grow up, I will make twice more than you. He continued, Dad, I don’t have an accent like you, and I can do well, spend time with me. I wish I had done that to the fullest extent, but I did not. It was a half-ass time. As he said, he has made it well in his life. Today, he probably has earned many times more than I did, and I have made and lost a whole lot in life. At 35, he is spending his time with his three sons, that is the right thing to do and he will cherish it. I am happy for him.

Whatever stage of life you are at now, spend the time with your family. All other things come and go, friends come and go, jobs and businesses come and go, but they will always be there.

If you get a chance today, make that call to your loved one, one individual a day, or once a week, you will see the difference it would make in your life. Here is a little challenge; listen more and talk less for a change, it will bring that small stream of happiness.

Guru Nanank’s 550th Birth Anniversary

Comments Off on Guru Nanank’s 550th Birth Anniversary

Guru Nanak’s 550th Birth Anniversary – AD 2019

On this auspicious day of the 550th anniversary of Guru Nanak Devji’s birthday, as a Muslim, and on behalf of the Center for Pluralism, I wish peace, harmony, and blessings to the world. This spirit of uniting people is the need of the day, and may this Gurpurab bring that light to the world.

Guru Nanak, like all the great souls of the world, was concerned about the conflicts between different communities in India during his time. He started a movement to bring the Hindus and Muslims together and uplift the downtrodden and the Dalits and remove the caste barriers and bring sanity to the world. The central value of his teachings is serving fellow humans and caring for others.

I am pleased to share a few points, including my interest. It is a story long overdue, and I have cut down the piece in half due to space. Thanks to Indian Panorama for publishing this piece.

Personal

My Nana, whom we called “Sikh Nana” wore precisely the same colorful turban the Sikhs wear. I see him in many pictures of the Guru Nanak. I am a Sardar myself, of course, that is my alias name. I had extensive conversations with the Sikhs in the mid to late sixties, who served at Yelahanka Airforce Station and came to our mill to get their wheat grounded into flour, and I had the opportunity to spend time and learn about Sikhism.

Thanks to my social studies book in the sixth grade at the Urdu Middle School in Yelahanka, a suburb of Bangalore. The book had two pages each for all the religious icons of the world. That’s when I learned about Guru Nanak and Sikhism. I took my kids to the Garland Gurdwara Sahib several times, and I have visited all the five Gurdwaras in Dallas, Texas. We held two significant events in our annual programs – one was to honor Sikhs for their exemplary model of dealing with Wisconsin shooting, and the other was to commemorate the Sikh Genocide.

Pluralism

The Center for Pluralism defines Pluralism, “Respecting the otherness of the other,” and accepting the God-given uniqueness of each one of us. Guru Nanak believed in respecting the otherness of the other and was never hesitant to call on the corrupt practices that did not recognize the equality of others. He made a point to teach those values whether you were a peasant or a king, pauper or wealthy, he proclaimed, God was accessible to every human equally.

Guru Nanak said that a true Hindu and true Muslim is one who follows his path, and several centuries later, Mahatma Gandhi reiterated that a good Sikh is a good Hindu and a good Muslim is a good Christian.

The lowest among the low castes,
lower than the lowliest,
Nanak is with them:
He envies not those with worldly greatness.
Lord! The glance of grace falls on the land
where the humble are cherished.

Guru Nanak believed in living the God-given life to the fullest extent. Like Buddha and Prophet Muhammad, he did not ask anyone to give up living their life and become an ascetic. He preached that spirituality is serving fellow humans and being one with all.

“A holistic understanding of Peace, undergirded by ideas of equality and fraternity, is a part of the Sikh tradition. The very origin of Sikhism is linked to overcoming communal hatred and divisions of his time. Guru Nanak emphasized universal kinship as the highest of religious aspirations and urged his followers to treat all human beings as brothers and sisters. Particularly crucial for Sikhism is the overcoming of all discrimination based on caste, class, or creed – which are impediments for Peace.” Pursuing Peace in a pluralistic world.

I had the pleasure of endorsing two books on Sikhism this year. One is called “Guru Nanak’s Religious Pluralism and the Guru Granth Sahib” by Dr. Harbans Lal and Roshan Attrey. What makes this book different from others is its emphasis on Pluralism and interfaith aspects of the Sikh belief system.

Dr. Harbans Lal writes, “A pluralistic society is one where multiple things, multiple viewpoints, multiple belief systems, can exist at the same time. More importantly, it is a society where minority religious groups can maintain their cultural and religious traditions without any fear.” The other book is Unity in Diversity by Daljit Singh Jawa, and I wrote on the cover, “Who could write a book on interfaith in the most authentic way?

The very foundation of Sikhism is Pluralism. The Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of guidance, is composed of Hindu and Muslim spiritual teachings.

Of course, rituals are pathways in finding whatever you are set to find, and Sikhism also has religious rituals.

Langar

When you think of Sikhs, one of the first things that come to your mind is service. They strongly believe in feeding the hungry, and their food is like the last supper; it never ends. Great food!

Diana Eck, writes in Dallas Morning News, “This hospitality is not just a gesture; it is foundational to the Sikh faith. Eating together is what knits the Sikh community together and breaks down the barriers that divide the wider human community. In caste-conscious India of the 15th century, when the teacher Guru Nanak first gathered what became the Sikh community, the common meal was an egalitarian human revolution. In plain ritual language, it spelled out the fact that among Sikhs, there would be no discrimination of high caste or low, no male or female, no Muslim or Hindu, no Sikh or non-Sikh. We are just people, equal in the eyes of the one God. Eating together symbolizes a Sikh’s rejection of discrimination and prejudice. May we all share more common meals as we discover what “we the people” truly means.”

Sikhs set an exemplary model for conflict mitigation.

On August 5, 2012, a gunman Wade Michael Page walked into the Sikh Temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin and opened the fire killing six people causing tremendous panic and apprehension. It all started with the murder of Balbir Singh Sodhi, a gas station owner in Phoenix, Arizona. The harassment continued, the humiliation of Dr. Prabhjot Singh, a Sikh Professor in New York and harassment of Mr. Jagjeet Singh, a truck driver by a Judge in Mississippi.

They followed the teachings of Guru Nanak by responding to the Wisconsin massacre with patience, forbearance, and kindness, and it was the right thing to do when tragedy befalls a community. They set a new benchmark in America for dealing with adversity.

The Sikhs across America chose the most powerful tools of all: Prayer and forgiveness. Indeed, it resonates with the teachings of all the great masters, and recently Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March and Martin Luther King’s march in Selma. It disarms the oppressor, and the message of goodness gets conveyed.

Every Gurdwara in America held candlelight vigils and speeches focused on forgiveness and goodwill – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNxrf8fFU0I

The selfless service to humankind, known as Seva, is central to the teaching of Sikhism. There is no thought of reward or gains, and it is pure service to fellow beings.

The Sikh community was appreciated by one and all at the annual Unity Day USA in Dallas.

5 Gurdwaras were presented with a trophy as an appreciation for their exemplary model of conflict mitigation

Reconciliation.

Sikhism began as a reconciliatory effort in nurturing goodwill between people of different faiths. On this 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, I would urge Sikhs and others to reconcile the sparks of ill-will over the existence of Sikhism.

We need to revive the spirit of reconciliation. We need to pull our heads out of the sand and face the world and bring long-lasting freedom to all of us. An awkward but heart to heart dialogue among communities is the way forward, and we cannot pass on the ill-will gene to the next generation, if we understand the source of the conflict, we can find a solution.

The sparks of the conflict lay dormant and burst into flames as a surprise resulting in the Sikh Genocide of 1984, which needs addressing squarely. Justice is due to the families who lost their loved ones. I will not go into details, but we need to understand the pain of the mothers who are still waiting to know the whereabouts of their children. Justice is the only cure to build peaceful societies.

The conflict with Mogul Kings needs to be reviewed and understood in its historical context. The power struggles between competing Kings are a part of the equation.

On this auspicious occasion of Gurpurab, the Sikhs can make a genuine effort to pay tribute to the spirit of Guru Nanak Dev and remove the misunderstandings that erupted from a wrong translation of a verse in the Quran. It happened four centuries ago during the reign of Aurangzeb and has been rightfully etched in the psyche of some Sikhs. I have shared the correct version of the verse with Dr. Avtar S. Dhaliwal from Tennessee. It originated at the Parliament of World’s religions in Melbourne, Australia, a decade ago.

The partition of India has caused a lot of unforgettable pain; children were mercilessly thrown from the moving trains, women raped, and men were brutally murdered. The pain will not go away, but we can make an effort to prevent this pain from passing it on to the next generation in the form of ill-will. The children don’t deserve to carry our problems.

If the people who suffered on all sides sit down face to face and see the humanity in each one of them, we can learn to purge our hearts from the pain. I have talked with Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh families who have endured that pain. Most of them have forgiven each other, don’t hold it against the offspring of the others.

The Sikh Community has done outstanding work in rebuilding abandoned mosques, temples, and churches. May this goodwill continue and embrace all humanity. Indeed, the land for the Golden Temple was a grant by King Akbar, and the first brick for the Golden Temple was laid out by a Muslim fakir. We have a good history that we need to cherish.

The Indian community is grateful to the Sikh Community for standing up to defend the Maryada of Kashmiri Muslim women, after the abrogation of article 370 in Kashmir. I know, millions of Muslims prayed for the Sikh community for doing the right thing, and I know many Muslim women have cried and prayed for the Sikhs. I had a tear in my eyes as well to know that the people are still there on this earth and thank Guru Nanak for creating a beautiful community of authentic sevaks.

Congratulations on building the Kartarpur Corridor. That is one thing the Indian and Pakistani politicians have done well.

Happy Gurpurab

Advice to Trump

Comments Off on Advice to Trump

Except for Kennedy’s and Lincoln’s assassins, no one has gone scot-free. The truth always comes out, and individuals face punishment.

Most of those individuals step down or go to jail. However, they have a choice to step down and retain some respect.

President Trump betrayed Republicans, they know very well that he is on the wrong side of history. Yet, they remain silent and also betray our country over their loyalty to the party.  But they are disgustingly supporting his deception – Lindsey Graham, Kevin McCarthy among the many, they will lose out in a well-run election with their sycophancy and flip flops. They need to know that he will ditch them, and say, “I don’t know them.” There is a pattern with him, and the Republicans need to think twice about standing up for him. They will lose out.

President Trump needs to acknowledge his mistakes and seek forgiveness from his die-hard supporters for betraying them; they stood by him and swallowed his lies. That is loyalty, and he should respect them for that, and be honest with them. He owes an apology to Americans and all those he mocks daily.

He has a choice to walk out respectfully, get forgiven by either Pence or Pelosi, depending on who will sit in the oval office. Let him save himself from disgrace and honor his supporters.

Enjoying Poetry – Kadar Khan Explains Ghalib

Comments Off on Enjoying Poetry – Kadar Khan Explains Ghalib

In the following video, Kader Khan explains Ghalib’s poetry. It was a joy to listen to him, that is, if you have an interest in it. It took me back to my Radio days, among the programs were Wisdom of Religions, Ghouse talk show, Festivals of the World, and others. But on Sundays, I did an hour show called Golden Oldies and Golden Melodies.

In that hour, I played about ten selected songs in the hour but explained the meaning and context of each song – in English, which everyone understood, particularly our youth, the South Indians, Gujaratis, and Bengalis. Most of them enjoyed the songs but had no idea what it meant? Listening to the narration gave them a connection.  Now and then, I get the temptation to do the program in Washington, DC. If someone wants to sponsor an hour, I will be happy to do it.

I hope you have lived your life in full, maybe at least 90%. As I reflect on my life, it brings joy to me in a lot of ways. I have been a trailblazer, and everything I have done in my life was not done before. Thanks to Steve Jobs and my mother for inspiring me to pursue my passion – pluralism! Pluralism is “Respecting the otherness of the other.” My most significant contribution to the world is Pluralism – that is, respecting the otherness of the other. Check out www.CenterforPluralism.com

My wants are a few and have accomplished most of them. Of course, I have failures, too, but in general, I am happier and was influenced by Buddha in my early years.

If you want to understand some of the most beautiful poetry in the world and if you have the patience, 1:38 hours is worth it. Remember, he is not an entertainer but a teacher.

Thank you.

Once stood for liberty, morality, individual freedoms, small government, and a balanced budget, among others. The Party has abandoned those values, and no one is defending it anymore. I bet most of them cannot even recite what their Party stands for.

I still hold those values, but the Party interferes in women’s right to choose, and their hatred for LGBTQ, and others is repugnant.

We need a movement to grow the independents who can set the right standards for governance. The hardcore Republicans and Democrats are lost tribes, and their loyalty is to the Party and not the nation.

Senator Lindsey Graham has no qualms with his 180 turn around, saying different things at different times about impeachment. He is a kiss ass guy with no shame. Someone ought to run against him, and I am sure his constituency is embarrassed about his flip flops. Do they need men like him to be their Senator?

The Democrats need to be aggressively promoting their work, they have advanced over 100 bills to the Senate, and Mitch McConnel is not moving them. Why aren’t the Democrats reaching out to the Americans? How many people know that Democrats have passed over 100 bills?

Let’s consider forming Independent Majority – a movement to vote candidates that meet our agenda, and will set that agenda soon.

INDIA REPORT
10/28/2019 – Religious Liberty committee Meeting

An appeal to President Trump and his administration requesting him to ask Prime Minister Modi to restore freedom to the people of Kashmir. It was submitted to Ambassador Brownback on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, for further action. We thank 34 NGO’s for signing the letter shared by the religious liberty committee.  The letter is appended following the summary and solutions.

This paper outlines the concerns, the background for such developments, and the solutions.

Summary

The primary concern about India today is the gross violation of religious freedoms and human rights, which could lead to genocide and bring disastrous results for the Indian economy, it will adversely affect India’s hitherto cohesiveness, and hurt American Security interests.

Modi can save India if he listens to the sane voices and restores freedom to every Indian to pursue his/her life, liberty, and happiness. The downfall can be reversed, provided Modi sees the full picture and warns the nation of consequences to lynching, harassing, raping, and threatening Christians and Muslims to convert to Hinduism, disappear or live as 2nd class citizens.  Mistreatment and harassment of Dalits need to stop.

The Congressional hearings on 10/22/19 were devastating to the Indian American supremacists, as it tore open the façade of democracy posed by the Modi administration. More at https://countercurrents.org/2019/10/hindutva-loses-in-the-us-congress

Modi administration has a record of creating facts to support its undemocratic actions. I suspect they will attempt to bulldoze the State Department with fake security threats that led them to revoke article 370 in Kashmir. The Indian court system has thrown out the fake encounters manufactured by the Modi administration in the past and information should be verified before trusting.

To save India from getting slapped on a label of a country of particular concern, all that the Modi government has to do is issue visas to the commissioners of USCIRFT to visit India and report the facts.

The Government of India has denied visas to the Commissioners of USCIRF, and also denied access to Senator Van Hollen to go into Kashmir. If India needs to come out clean, it should be open to investigations and let the truth come out.

Consent of the Governed meant nothing to Mr. Modi when he abolished the article 370 – The Indian Parliament did pass the abrogation bill after the fact but without the consent of the people of Kashmir.

1.9 million Indians are declared stateless. The ugliest part of the situation is the bill the Modi administration is trying to pass, it would reward citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs while denying the same to Muslims. Civilized nations do not discriminate.

I must advise everyone to distinguish between Hindutva and Hinduism. Hindutva is an aggressive movement patterned after Nazi ideals claiming Hindus to be a superior race.  The problem is not the belief, as the preachers of all religions ridiculously claim superiority of their faith. The problem is the violence it is unleashing on the minorities. Hindutva guides people to acquire political power and subjugate all others. Indeed, it calls for the continued oppression of Dalits (Untouchables) and the elimination of the inferior people like Christians and Muslims from India by 12/31/2021. Modi has not condemned these statements by his party men.  Hinduism, like all other religions, guides one to live a meaningful life. It teaches how to receive moksha or salvation from the conflicts of life and frees one from the cycle of life and death.

Except for a few, most of the Indians and the Indian diaspora dream about a cohesive India where every Indian feels secure about his/ her faith, ethnicity, and culture. Where he or she is free to eat, drink, wear, or believe whatever suits him/her.

My advice to Indian Americans is to be on the right side of history. If you stick to Justice and stand for liberty and religious freedom instead of the RSS cult and its leaders like Modi, you cannot go wrong. And you don’t need to pander to either Republicans or Democrats.

THE APPEAL FOR SIGNATURES
10/15/2019

INDIA APPEAL

TO:

Hon. President of the United States, Donald Trump
Hon. Secretary of the State, Mike Pompeo
Hon. Attorney General William Barr
Hon. Secretary of Defense, Mark Esper
Hon. Ambassador for International Religious Freedom, Sam Brownback

Dear President Trump,

We urge you to ask the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, to lift the six-week-long severe restrictions on the ordinary lives of the 7 million citizens of Kashmir, restore their freedom, and ensure the rule of law is in place. Here are a few points to consider;

  1. Prime Minister Modi’s actions in Kashmir can unleash a genocide of the Christians, Muslims, Dalits, Sikhs and others, and further lead to a significant setback to American economic and security interests in South Asia.
  2. Seven million people have been living in a prison-like environment in Kashmir since August 5, 2019. It has been more than a month now, and there are no signs of easing. The complete blockade of communications and freedom of movement has made life unbearable for the people, as they cannot purchase food, medicine, or even know what is happening to their relatives. This blockade needs to end.
  3. Reports from the United Nations point to more than 50,000 deaths since 1989 in the area. 214,000 children have been orphaned during the years of conflict.  Civilians continue to experience brutal oppression. “Close to 3,000 people have been detained in Kashmir — many of them children — since Aug. 4,”  The most recent study (2011) shows over 20,000 people have been detained without charges. An unaccounted number of rapes are happening.
  4. The Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Dalits, and others are patiently enduring lynching, abuse, rape, and endless harassment. If there is no solution offered to their suffering, it may lead to chaos and genocide, which may require costly international intervention if the conflict is to be prevented from spreading.
  5. Modi and his government must further ensure that every Indian, regardless of religion or ethnicity, will be treated as an equal citizen, protected by legal authorities. and allowed to pursue life, liberty, and happiness.
  6. We urge you to ask Prime Minister Modi to allow the Commissioners of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) to visit Kashmir and Assam, and enable them to report the facts on the ground.
  7. India is a bulwark for us against Chinese expansionism. It needs peace and stability to remain healthy, not social unrest.
  8. Kashmir is a flashpoint of Indo-Pakistan conflict, and it is a ticking time bomb. Should a nuclear exchange over this land occur, it will result in millions of casualties.

Your message will carry enormous weight with the Government of India, and an additional dispatch from the Department of State as well as Ambassador Brownback to this effect will keep our allies — India and Pakistan — from moving towards disaster.

Your timely statement will do miracles. The world would appreciate you and your administration for stopping a possible genocide of Uyghurs, Kashmiris, and Indians if you can act in time.

Ambassador Brownback has reiterated that if people are free from fear, they can focus on nation-building, and everyone will prosper. Religious freedom in the United States is a compelling reason for our prosperity; the world can learn from our experience.

Your message will help promote and restore India’s democracy and freedoms.
