78 Christians Killed in Peshawar – Muslims are sick of condemning the sickos among Muslims.

Dallas, Texas – September 22, 2013.  Muslims unequivocally condemn the attack on the historic Christian Church in Peshawar, Pakistan killing 78 worshippers.  This does not bode well for Pakistan.
It’s time to quit blaming Islam or Muslims, and instead hold the individuals and their affiliates responsible for this brutal massacre. Islam did not authorize these criminals to kill any one, and Muslims certainly did not give them the permission to do so.

We the people of the World have been giving a pass to these criminals by blaming Islam, rather than blaming the criminals. Its time we do the right thing.

We urge the Peshawar Police and the Governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan to grab the criminals and put them on trial. No one but these agencies is responsible for law and order.
The hallmark of civil societies is that every resident of the society lives in peace with others. No one needs to live in apprehension or fear of the other, we are all God’s creation and God cares for us to take care of each other.

Texas Faith: Pope Francis criticizes narrow focus on abortion, gay rights and conception

Comments Off on Texas Faith: Pope Francis criticizes narrow focus on abortion, gay rights and conception

In my tradition Islam, there is a greater emphasis placed
on service to mankind. Indeed, Prophet Muhammad goes on to say that if a
person is having a full meal while his neighbor is hungry, he is not
following his religion. There are innumerable stories where a sinner
woman saves a thirsty cat with water, another one feeds a hungry dog and
the prophet said that both of them will earn God’s grace. Mike Ghouse

TEXAS FAITH: Pope Francis criticizes narrow focus on abortion, gay rights and conception

Pope Francis offered some provocative thoughts last week. Speaking about the hot-button issues of abortion, gay rights and conception, he told a Jesuit interviewer: “It is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time.”
He went on in the interview to say that hischurch had grown obsessed with those topics.
I have to admit, the church universal seems way too caught up in debates over abortion, gay marriage and conception. So, I happen to agree with his view.
But what do you think? Are people of faith becoming too occupied with gay rights, abortion and conception?
And what do you make of this statement that also came from the Pope:
“The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent.”
Applying that line to your own religious tradition, how are believers supposed to know which teachings are more important than others?
In my tradition, the Presbyterian Church USA, we have creeds, but we don’t necessarily have a Presbyterian’s guide to the top 10 beliefs, or some such list of priorities.
This could get arbitrary, couldn’t it?

MIKE GHOUSE, President, Foundation for Pluralism and speaker on interfaith matters
There are two sides to hot-button issues like abortion, gay rights and conception.
On the one hand, the Pope and the conservative guardians of religion may be satisfied that they have softened their approach towards the issues. Probably they are asking what else you want. As if they have done a favor in removing the shackles which they placed on people originally.
On the other hand, the relentless discussion on the topic stems from the fact that the letting up of restrictions has not translated into acceptance. Until it becomes a norm it will continue to remain caught up in the debates.
The closure to the transaction will happen if the church writes down the revision in its policy manual. If not, the Pope needs to accept the legitimacy of the occupation with the topic.
I do agree with the Pope that the dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent.

In my tradition Islam, there is a greater emphasis placed on service to mankind. Indeed, Prophet Muhammad goes on to say that if a person is having a full meal while his neighbor is hungry, he is not following his religion. There are innumerable stories where a sinner woman saves a thirsty cat with water, another one feeds a hungry dog and the prophet said that both of them will earn God’s grace.

Then there is a story of a man who prays day and night, but the prophet advises him that caring for his wife is as important as prayers and that he should cut down on his prayers. But, unfortunately, greater emphasis is placed on visible aspects of the religion like prayers, one’s beard, etc than on the aspect that builds cohesive societies.
Indeed, every religion is about justice and at the end of the day or end of the world, there is hope that justice will prevail; violators will pay for their wrong doing, and do-gooders will receive salvation, nirvana, Mukti, Nijaat or freedom from the birth cycles.
Even though justice seems to be cruel at times, that is the bottom line of the religion or a society. However, the prime value of religion is Mercy. Thanks to Pope France for re-emphasizing on the mercy aspect of religion.

Texas Faith: Has college football become too violent for the faithful?

Comments Off on Texas Faith: Has college football become too violent for the faithful?

Morality is a product of living with other beings and not necessarily
the exclusive derivative of religions. However, conservative religious
folks find comfort in conforming to their teachings and that is the
right thing to do for them. Each person has a right to the pursuit of
his or her happiness without messing up with others.  Mike Ghouse

TEXAS FAITH: Has college football become too violent for the faithful?

Let’s take a break from the weariness of finding the right strategy for the Mideast and deal with sports. Namely, football.

I
confess that I have — again — grown to love college football. I enjoy
going to TCU games with my 10-year old son, who loves to run the field
before the game and root loudly for the Horned Frogs. In fact, it is
hard getting him out of a TCU T-shirt these days.

I enjoy the
game because it is fast, exciting and strategic. It also is just fun
watching the bands and streamers and frivolity. And, being a fan, I like
to see my team(s) do well. (As a graduate of theUniversity of Texas who
grew up attending TCU games, I spread my cheering around each weekend!)

But
as I watch these games, and see players carted off the field, I often
inwardly wince. Am I participating in some kind of modern
lions-and-Christians blood-lust? And I am doing this at someone else’s
expense? The NFL just settled with retired football players to the tune
of $750 million over the concussions some of them received. For some
players, they have been life-altering concussions.

Related to all
this, I felt sick when I picked up our paper and read that CBS Sports
was putting a “Johnny Cam” to cover every move of A&M’s Johnny
Manziel in his game against Alabama. The guy is a showboat, but he is
still only a kid.

So, are we reaching the point where rooting for
college football teams is too much? In this Christianity Today essay,
Owen Strachan raises the penetrating question: Should Christian fans
step away from such a physically devastating, violent sport?

I would broaden his question to ask this question:

Should people of faith who love college football step away from such a physically devastating, violent sport?

MIKE GHOUSE, President, Foundation for Pluralism and speaker on interfaith affairs
The Abrahamic faiths in particular are run by an amazing group of people. They slap religion onto everything we do.
The
people of other faiths are no different. They also poke into every
aspect of life. The only group of people who seem to be free are
Atheists, Earth-based and perhaps Native American traditions. At one
time, Buddhism was a free-style way of life built on pleasure
principles, but not any more.
My
fellow Muslims are bent on declaring what is acceptable (Halal) and
what is not (Haram) in their daily life. And the Muslim clergy have made
a business out of making those decisions. The Jewish clergy are no
different in nit-picking on the details either. It appears that
conservative religious folks are conditioned to be binary, to see life
in black and white. But, heavens, life is full of colors!
For
a long time, I thought Christianity was free from such routine
pronouncements, but the conservative ones constrict the limits. The
statements made by Rick Santorum, Michelle Bachman, Robert Jeffress and
their likes were beyond common sense during the primaries last year.
Should people of faith who love college football step away from such a physically devastating, violent sport?
If
the violence is intentional or was commercialized to increase the
revenues, I would say, stay away from it, we should not be drawing
pleasure from someone getting beat up, it almost equates with the
Gladiators. Enjoyment at the cost of someone’s pain is not kosher
whether we are religious or not, as it cannot be universalized.
But
that is not the case. There are penalties built in for intentionally
hurting the other player, so what happens is usually accidental. There
is a positive side to it as well, in how players refrain from
reflexively from hurting the other. No matter what the religions says
there will always be people across the family of faiths who will cherish
gore and violence.
Morality
is a product of living with other beings and not necessarily the
exclusive derivative of religions. However, conservative religious folks
find comfort in conforming to their teachings and that is the right
thing to do for them. Each person has a right to the pursuit of his or
her happiness without messing up with others.

Report on Mulberry Quran burning incident – a new Muslim behavior and change in perceptions about Muslims

Comments Off on Report on Mulberry Quran burning incident – a new Muslim behavior and change in perceptions about Muslims

The Mulberry  event seeded the change about how Muslims are perceived, and how they would react to future Quran burning, criticism of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and Islam.

When
Pastor Jones
announced burning 2998 copies of Qur’an on Wednesday, September 11,
2013, one for each American life lost on September 11, 2001, I said to
myself we have to bring a closure to the sacrifice of our men and women
in the most honored way and not by burning the Qurans.

We also
need to bring a closure to the damage 9/11 has done to the relationship
between Muslims and America, though the majority on both sides did not
blame each other, the few among both made it difficult by
promoting fear, hatred and blame with recurring nagging activities.

Just
like the actions of Pastor Terry Jones and his handful of supporters do
not represent 318 Million Americans, the actions of the 19 and their
respective cheer leaders do not represent 1.6 Billion Muslims either. We
all owe it ourselves to understand this clearly, so none of us lives in
anxiety, and continue to live in hate of each other.

We all have a legitimate concern on how a handful of Muslims react elsewhere in the world to criticism of Prophet Muhammad, Islam and Qur’an,
and how Muslims are perceived by fellow humanity in general and
Americans in particular.  Hence
we deliberated on actions to bring about sustainable solutions, the
answer was in moving the Tenth Annual Unity Day USA event to Mulberry,
Florida. The Unity Day brings people of different faiths, races and
ethnicities to rededicate our pledge to one nation and a commitment to
her safety, security and Unity.

Thanks to the print and web media – every Major Newspaper in the world has
carried the stories and at least two dozen original pieces have been written
about the event. A whole lot of it is listed at www.WorldMuslimCongress.com

The
most important endorsements came from Muslims sites – Shia, Sunni and
other Muslims groups. Whether it is Saudi Gazette, or Ahle-Bayt (Shia)
News in Iran and the Muslim Majority Nations have covered it all.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM MUSLIMS?

The following are some of the many of the responses we have learned and
anticipate when someone criticizes Islam, Prophet Muhammad, or Quran;

  1. Violence – burning
embassies, cars and destruction of property….
  2. Calling Names, cursing
or killing the one who said bad things about the three
  3.  Enflame the
situation by adding fuel to the fire by talk of avenge or revenge
  4. Passing the buck – blame
the other “illiterate Muslims”, fringe elements etc.
  5. Get Defensive
What the world has not
seen is a genuine Muslim response!
Our
goal was to offer an
alternate behavior model as a standard, indeed we can call it a genuine
Islamic response based on what the Prophet has said, and the verses from
Quran. This behavior can also be called Christian, Jewish, Hindu or
plain common sense
responsible response.

Saving
a life is like saving the whole humanity says the Quran, a book of
guidance like all other holy books in building harmony in a given
society. It is about building societies that care for other for the
ultimate benefit of each member of the society. (more about it at Huffington Post)

The Muslim
Community has taken up the responsibility in past several years to
donate blood, and last year, the target was to collect 11,000 pints on
the 11thanniversary and collected 11,170 Pints.  The Muslims for Life blood drive campaign emphasizes the sanctity of life, a teaching inherent in all religious traditions.  The MuslimCommunity USA has set a goal to collect 12,000 pints of blood, which will help save up to 36,000 lives.

The model is not new at
all, indeed, it was established by Jesus, Muhammad and all the spiritual
Masters (peace be upon them)  including
non-religious and secular traditions; that of mitigating conflicts and
nurturing goodwill for the common good of the society; a cohesive society where
no one has to live in apprehension or fear of the other.
Jesus called that
Kingdom of heaven and Muhammad called it submission to a coherent system called
Islam. A majority of people in all faiths believe in the beauty of their faith;
however a few in each group don’t get that or abuse the faith to their advantage in making enemies out of those who differ.

Indeed,
Prophet Muhammad taught that “To overcome evil with good is good, and
to resist evil by evil is evil.” It is also strongly enjoined in the
Qur’an in the same verse 41:34, “Good and evil deeds are not equal.
Repel evil with what is better; then you will see that one who was once
your enemy has become your dearest friend.” (Full Press release at World Muslim Congress).

The
folks in the Town of Mulberry
and Polk County, Florida were ready for a new model to work in dealing
with the
situation, and they did, and have set an example to the world. Should
this happen elsewhere in the United States, the folks can look up to the
Mulberry example of giving hope and strengthening what is good.

Indeed
Mulberry Mayor Hatch said, “One man or a handful of men and women do
not represent the values of half a million folks of Polk County”. Mayor
Fields of Lakeland shared that humanity has a history of abusing the
holy books for individual gains and we cannot accept that. Sgt.
Regina Moran, representing Polk County Sheriff’s office called for
mutual respect and acceptance of the other. Butch Rahman, a resident of
Polk County emphasized, “Terry Jones begged every property owner in Polk
County to allow him to burn the Quran on their property—and not one
person accepted. No one is buying his idea and he is isolated on
an island of hate. He does not represent us.” and added,  “I am proud of
Polk County’s response in rejecting hate and promoting a positive
message of American diversity.”

In the words of Suzanne carter,  “As a Christian, the bible teaches us
to love our neighbors— it doesn’t say
what our neighbor has to look like or believe in—it just says neighbor.”
Lynn Broom of Not in Mulberry Organization adds, “You can’t fight hate
with hate” and the Curtis Rahman, a high schooler was clear
,” “Al-Qaida is dangerous, not Islam or Muslims”. Similar sentiments
were expressed by ordinary folks (2 videos).

Imagine
the reservation
and apprehension when a Muslim steps into their town – I am sure they
expected
one of the five behaviors from this Muslim, but thanks to the Model of
the
Prophet – “Amin”, that I follow to the best of my ability, they
saw me, with identical goals as they had, and that was to add goodness.

Amin
was a title accorded to the Prophet by fellow residents of Mecca who
were Jewish, Christians, Pagan and others. To be Amin is to be
truthful, to be worthy of trust, to be just and to be a source of safety
and
security to others.  The folks in Mulberry
reciprocated with equal kindness.

For a public good to succeed, it has to be un-selfish, and no one has
anything
to gain from it but the community at large. Our volunteer team in
Mulberry (listed on the site) followed the same model. None of us wanted
anything out of it except the common
good.

We hoped this
would be  a life changing event, most people fell in in love with the
idea that all of us Americans will come together as Americans and
nothing but Americans. While we have our sub-identity, we look to each
other as Americans and rededicate ourselves to our pledge; one nation
with liberty and justice for all.

Mulberry
is a part of history in creating a model behavior in dealing with
conflicts and building a cohesive America, where no American has to live
in apprehension or fear of the other

I want to emphasize a note about service.  My good friend said a prayer for me that I have earned a prime spot in
paradise, but I was quick to say, I do not way any such place. – We should not
be driven by wages for the service we render, if we get paid, then it would not be
service any more. We should rather do our share of work for creating a better
world, as the Bhagvad Gita says, do your dharma and not be driven by the fruit.

Thanks to my key partners in the event – Butch Rahman, Suzanne Carter, Lynn
Broom, Linda Jezard and others including the Mayors, police, Fire chiefs,
Sheriff’s office and the media friends for placing their trust in me and
believing that we will do the right thing – and not leave a mess behind for
them to deal with later.

Suzanne traveled with me to the site where Jones was going to burn Quran, we
had a good conversation, and I appreciate the trust she placed in me. Butch
asked me, a stranger to stay in his home with his family, and I am glad I did. I am sure Prophet Muhammad
would be smiling at me, but at least I feel good for following in his footsteps
– to be the Amin.

Afterall, the Qurans were not burned.

Pastor
Jones and his fellow Pastor were arrested, and their truck and the
trailer with kerosene doused Qurans were confiscated an hour before the
scheduled burning at 5:00 PM on September 11, 2013. They were charged
for carrying open arms, a 45 caliber Smith and Wesson, and not having
the license tag for the trailer, a road hazard with Kerosene doused
books on an open road. Both the men were released after paying a bail of
$1250 each. Full story at the
Mulberry Ledger: http://www.theledger.com/article/20130911/NEWS/130919800/0/search

The
Pastor has said to repeat the event, and on our part, we will repeat our
unity and prayers, and pray for the well being of the Pastor. May God
forgive him and have him join us in creating a safer America for every
American. I will continue to pursue to have a dialogue with the pastor
and answer what exactly about Quran that bothers him. If it happens, it
will be in a public forum.

To quote from Jeffrey Weiss’  article he wrote in Religion News Service,
and copied by virtually every major News paper in America including the
Washington Post, Huffington Post and others. It was a challenge to
Pastor Jones.

“If
you find five faults in Quran in a public discussion, I will abandon my
faith and join your ministry. … On the other hand, if you cannot find
faults, I am going to be easy on you, I will not ask you to become a
Muslim, but ask you join me to do the work of Christ and Muhammad in
building a cohesive America, where no American has to live in fear of
the other. Jesus called that the Kingdom of Heaven.
“You
and I owe it to America to demystify the myths and allay mutual fears. I
am putting myself out for the common good of America and I hope you
take up the challenge and join me in contributing to the greatness of
America.”
Now, the pastor is as likely to agree to this debate as he is to ride a unicorn. So why even bother?
“You
are right. He will not take it,” Ghouse said. “But that also gives
fellow Americans the hope that it is not the Quran, it is the bad
practices of a few Muslims that taints the religion.”

FEEDBACK REPRESENTATIVE OF MULBERRY SENTIMENT

Terry Jones a Bad Apple in the Christian Faith Who Brought Hate to Mulberry

Published: Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 12:01 a.m.
Well, it’s all over in Mulberry — or is it?
The Christian Quran book burner went to jail and the World Muslim
Congress that has held it Unity Day event for the past nine years has
returned to Dallas. The book burner came to Mulberry in hate and the
Muslims came to Mulberry in peace to counter the hate.

The book
burner is going to find out he can’t break the law in Mulberry and get
off without a stiff penalty. The World Muslim Congress from Dallas are
gone but not forgotten, and they are welcome to return. They came in
peace with a record of doing the Unity Day Celebration for the past
eight years.

The group included local residents of differing
faiths, and they showed respect and to love our neighbors with
understanding to achieve worldwide balance. This reasoning is part of my
Christian faith. I wish I had been there and I wish the Muslin Unity
Day Celebration would have had more support from the churches.

We
are not going to have world peace until we can come together without
regard to race or religious beliefs. Being divisive and not willing to
understand the other side is not the Christian way. It does not mean
Christianity has to accept the Muslim or any other way. It means love
your neighbor and do unto others as … you know the rest and what is
right.

The Muslims summed it up best when they prayed for the
fallen heroes who died on 9/11 from a “few bad apples in the Muslim
faith.” I can understand that logic by adding we have a “lot of bad
apples in the Christian faith,” and one of them brought hate to
Mulberry.

HERE ARE SOME TAKE AWAY POINTS:

  1. The Mayors, police, fire chief, religious leadership and volunteers along with
representatives of many different religious traditions joined (video clip) in
echoing the sentiment of respecting Quran without compromising on the free
    speech guaranteed in our constitution.
  2. Indeed Mayor Hatch said, “One man or a handful of men and women do not
represent the values of half a million folks of Polk County” or 318
million Americans. Mayor Fields shared that humanity has a history of abusing
the holy books for individual gains, in the words of Butch Rahman – not a
single property owner offered their place to the pastor to burn the Qurans – no
one in the county was buying his idea.  In the words of Suzanne carter, her bible does
not teach her to hate the neighbors. Similar sentiments were expressed by
    ordinary folks (2 videos).
  3. The above is a
reassuring feedback; ignoring Jones would have deprived fellow Americans and
the Muslims around the world with that kind of hope giving information.
  4. The media sincerely presented the event as it was – in the positive light
without putting a dimmer on it. Our original Press release was augmented by
front page news in Times of India and an effective endorsement op-ed by Saudi
gazette and carried by over 50 news outlets. The final touch came from Jeff
Weiss of Religion News, which was picked up by every major newspaper in the
World. At home in Mulberry, the ledger reported factual information of everything
that was happening with Pastor Jones or the Unity Day USA event. I Googled it, the
report was published in every major language of the world.
  5. An alternate behavior
model is established in dealing with conflicts, instead of the routine
condemnations. This model was indeed set by Jesus and Prophet Muhammad, and we
    merely followed it.
  6. Fellow Americans
witnessed a major paradigm change; that Muslims do speak out and offer choices
    besides condemning or doing nothing.
  7. That Muslims are partners in nation building and building a cohesive
    America.
  8. The program reiterated that Muslims pray for the wellbeing of all humanity, and
not just MUSLIMS. It’s not a new idea, but practiced by a majority of Muslims
quietly. We want to reiterate the Quranic verses…..Full article at Huffpost
    and our first press release.
  9. We were clear- we honor
fellow citizens thru prayers and respecting Quran.
  10. As a part of the
published program, we broke for prayers, thanks to Sunni, Shia, WD Muhammad, Ahmadiyya
Muslims and other Muslims for joining us in the optional special prayers. I was
blessed to have led the 2 Rakat Nafl, Alhamdulillah we all prayed together.
  11. I’m sure Prophet Muhammad would be pleased with our work. I followed his
example of becoming the Amin.  The city
loved the message, now; they actually know what MUSLIMS are about. There is an
    alternate positive example.
  12. A new found respect for
Muslims, and Muslims were seen as doing the right thing, just, truthful and
trustworthy. We are glad we responded positively instead of complaining.
This is a new paradigm
in bringing a change, a critical milestone for Muslims in the United States.

I request you, the members at World Muslim Congress and the Foundation
for Pluralism to add your succinct but
pragmatic comment in 50 words or less for possible inclusion in the
book.  A sponsor for the book is welcome by individuals or an
organization. The book would be a compilation of many
articles, your comments and reports in the media.
This book will be a must
read for any one before building a Mosque in Murfreesboro, a Ground Zero
Mosque or planning a major event. The proceeds will go towards nurturing the
pluralistic values of Islam and building cohesive societies to live and let live.

I will be happy to give a talk on the subject of how to become a productive
citizen of America and earn the respect as a fully participating and contributing
member of the society at large.
God willing we will do
things with boldness and clarity.
A full report will be
prepared and mailed to the ones who want to read.
Just Google “Quran
Burning”,  “Mike Ghouse” or “Pastor Terry
Jones” for that time period,  – you will be amazed with the print
and web media coverage. Every Major Newspaper in the world has covered it in
positive terms, a healthy change.

The most important endorsements came from Muslims sites – Shia, Sunni and others. The key contributing articles are on the
panel at World Muslim Congress and Unity Day USA.

The
most important endorsements came from Muslims Newspapers and websites –
Shia, Sunni and others. Whether it is Saudi Gazette, or Ahle-Bayt
(Shia) News in Iran and the Muslim Majority Nations have covered it
all. There is leadership vaccum out there, when the right thing is said,
they grab it and it is encouraging.

I did not know them personally, but have met Dr. Hussain a few times. However, I have heard a lot of great things about them from my wife Yasmeen. This past week, we have had a luncheon with them and I was glad, I got to know them; humble beings who have served their community well.
Last night, I learned a whole lot more about them at the Louisville Islamic Center – there were two things in particular, that stood out and compelled me to share; a rare quality in individuals.
Do you remember Bill Gates? He is one of the first rich men of our times, who paved the way for Philanthropy while he is alive – His message is, don’t die with all your wealth for someone else to do something with it. Your kids don’t need it, so do something while you are alive and receive the pleasure of seeing the goodness work its way.
Dr. Hussain and Rafiqa are those two individuals. The President of the Center who knew Dr. Hussain spoke for nearly 35 minutes, and each item he mentioned was worthy of mention. I was absorbed listening to it. Indeed, it felt good to hear about good people. There was immense joy to see people like them.
I know many in Dallas, who are wealth accumulating machines and kept “receiving” it, but never got around to “giving”. Life’s emotional and spiritual balance comes from maintaining a balance between receiving and giving.  Some of them missed it, and their kids did not need their wealth either. They sorely missed out the pleasure of seeing their money do the work, and do some good.
Dr. Hussain and Rafiqa are blessed to have given and seen the results of that giving. While they gave, they were humble.  There is a real story from the times of Akbar, the Mogul King that reflects characteristic of this couple.
There was a man named Rahim, who was well known for his philanthropy, no one left his door without any help, he was a great “daani” giver.  The people noticed that he lowered his eyes and head while he was giving, they did not understand why he was not proud of giving, so they to go Tulsidas, the man who wrote Ramacharitmanas (Ramayana- 2nd composition) and wanted to know about this man Rahim.
Tulsidas was curios so he writes this Doha (couplet) and sends to Rahim.
Aisi deni den ju, kit seekhay ho sain?
Jyoon jyoon kar oonchay , kyoon kyoon niche nain?
Where did your learn this form of giving o brother?
As you rise your hands to give, why do you lower your eyes?
Rahim was a great admirer of Tulsidas, and knew he was a religious man so he composed his doha in return.
Dain har koi aur hai, bhejat jo din rain
Log bharam hum per karien, taso neechay nain.
Giver (wealth) is someone else, who sends it day and night,
people give credit to me in vain, and that’s why I lower my eyes

From the innumerable stories I heard in the 35 minutes, that is who Sain Hussain is.

The second aspect of this couple that deserves applause and emulation is their humility in giving.
They have funded many institutions around, but apparently have never made an attempt to “tell” the people how or what to do, even though they were a major donor at places. This is a rare quality that I have come to admire.
Prophet Muhammad had said something profound – don’t let the right hand know the charity given by the left hand (or vice versa). If you boast of your giving, it humiliates the receiver and puts him/her in a difficult inferior position. Islam is about treating everyone on equal footing. No one should be deprived of his or her dignity from receiving.
Dr. Hussain is one of the senior most Cardiologists in Louisville who has served the community for over four decades. Mrs. Rafiqa Hussain is a CPA. They have decided to move to Washington DC to be around with their Grand Kids. There was an outpouring of love and admiration for this couple.
If you know someone like that, please let others know.  In the words of Dr. Ali Faraz if one can express gratitude to the individuals, he or she will also express gratitude to the creator, and that is the hallmark of a civil society.
It is our duty to honor and cherish individuals who have dedicated their lives to building bridges among Americans.

MY TALKING
POINTS ON SEAN HANNITY
Reference:
Students from a Tennessee High School go on a field trip to a Mosque and a
Hindu Temple, they were given copies of the Quran, a few accepted and few did
not, a few joined in the meditation and few did not – what’s the big deal about
it?
Sean, I am with the parents, I want my kids to go to all places of worship or
none. However, in the given time limitation, you learn what you don’t know, and
not what you already know. It makes perfect sense to learn about Hinduism,
Islam, Sikhism and others who have been misunderstood and a target of bigotry.

Most kids in schools have a good idea about Christianity and Judaism. Ideally,
they should be scheduled to visit all places of worship, including Pagan and
earth based religions.

Sean we
have problems in our society because we don’t know each other and what we know
about the others are bad things that are not true.  Given that, the school trip is the right thing
to do, the kids need to know about other faiths.

Within a decade, there will not be a work place, restaurant, movie theater,
football game, or public transportation or the airplane where you will find
people of different races, religions and ethnicities – and with that conflicts
are bound to arise, this is a good thing the school is doing the field trips.

We owe it to our kids not to be dumbfounded when they run into a Sikh, Hindu or
a Muslim.

A few kids accepted the Quran from the Mosque on their field trip, and a few
did not, a few joined the meditation at the Hindu Temple and a few did not. They
had a choice, what’s the problem with Fox News with that? Would you rather
them grow up as bigots?

If we care about America, we have to build a cohesive society where no American
has to live in fear of the other, and fear mitigates when we know each other.

Please note – the uplink did not
work, and the video message did not get transmitted last night, a first time on
Fox News. Sean went solo on the segment with Todd Starnes who wrote the story.

Texas Faith: Why isn’t the West getting any better at handling religious conflict? Or are we?

Comments Off on Texas Faith: Why isn’t the West getting any better at handling religious conflict? Or are we?

In
the United States, we reluctantly upgraded the Mormon faith from a cult
to a Christian religious denomination. Thanks to Mitt Romney for being
the catalyst. The Shia and Sunni Muslims have come together jointly for
understanding. I am blessed to have moderated a dialogue at Rice
University’s Boniuk Center and am planning to moderate another one at
Harvard University. There is a lot of effort going on and there is hope. Mike Ghouse

Why isn’t the West getting any better at handling religious conflict? Or are we?

Sunni tribesmen talk with Iraqi military authorities

We are headed once again into a drama in the Mideast in which religious conflict is playing a serious role. The tension between Shia and Sunni Muslims is part of the dynamic in play in Syria and the broader Mideast. TheNew York Times’ David Brooks does agood job explaining some of this tension in this column titled, “One Great Big War.”

Of course, twelve years ago this month, religious extremism played itself out in horrific ways in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. And we have seen outbursts of it here in the United States in other ways, whether in the form of Major Hasan in Fort Hood or the Tsarnaev brothers in Boston.
So, here’s my question:
Why aren’t we in the West and other parts of the world getting any better at handling religious conflict? Is it because we have not had to deal with this like we have had to face nationalistic or ethnic strife? Or are we getting better and it’s just hard to see?
MIKE GHOUSE, President, Foundation for Pluralism and speaker on interfaith matters, Dallas
We are indeed getting better at handling religious conflict, as long as we know it is not the best, and we have room to improve. I am glad the religious folks are speaking up.
Twelve years ago on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001, I was called by AM Radio 1150 at 10 A.M. to address the crisis. The 9/11 attacks had left every one speechless and frozen from doing anything. I was shaking but was committed to make sense out of the chaos and bring coherence to the day, and pave the way for relevant action. I was on the air for seven straight hours.
Indeed, we have made big strides in Dallas from that day forward. Interfaith prayers were initiated. Blood donations causes labs to overflow. And many religious leaders jumped in to find a peaceful solutions.
Texas Faith panelists have written some of the most beautiful pieces whenever there were conflicts within the United States, particularly in reference to the Ground Zero Mosque and Mormonism. The interfaith groups routinely get together and issue joint statements of solidarity. The progress is there, but not up to speed. There is a lot more to do.
And now, we have another situation where Pastor Jones will burn 2998 Copies of the Quran. It is not the burning I am concerned with, but the reaction to it that worries me. The Polk County, Florida folks have jumped in at the opportunity to find comfort in unity and solidarity and have come together to commemorate Unity Day USA in Mulberry Florida. This is a Dallas event that has moved to Florida to find solutions.
The Shia-Sunni conflict has been around, but rarely did it flare up until we messed with the delicate fabric of cohesion in Iraq. It was a crime on our part to mess with Iraq and get messed up ourselves in economic terms, with the loss of jobs and foreclosure of homes of millions of Americans. There were no major conflicts between the two sects in the last several centuries except with our meddling. Maybe an apology to the Iraqis — and repentance — will restore our spiritual balance so we can find solutions.
Instead of getting the Shia Iran and Sunni Saudi to sit down together and make peace, our hatred for Iranians has caused us to place wedges between the two. We may feel good in isolating Iran, but we will harm the fabric of the globe with our short-sightedness. At the end we will pay a price but may feel good in pushing others around.
In the United States, we reluctantly upgraded the Mormon faith from a cult to a Christian religious denomination. Thanks to Mitt Romney for being the catalyst. The Shia and Sunni Muslims have come together jointly for understanding. I am blessed to have moderated a dialogue at Rice University’s Boniuk Center and am planning to moderate another one at Harvard University. There is a lot of effort going on and there is hope.

Freedom of Speech wins in case of Pastor Terry Jones V. City of Detroit

Comments Off on Freedom of Speech wins in case of Pastor Terry Jones V. City of Detroit
Freedom
of Speech wins in case of Pastor Terry Jones V.  City of Detroit.

Dallas,
Texas – September 3, 2013.
Congratulations to U.S. District Judge Denise Page Hood for upholding our
constitution and freedom of speech in a public place.  We also I congratulate Pastor Jones for
fighting for his constitutional rights.
Even though I do not agree with Pastor Terry Jones hate for Muslims, I
would have defended his right to free speech in the public square.  That is the right thing to do.

Freedom
of speech must be cherished, admired and defended at any cost. Ultimately truth
triumphs over everything and truth alone is sustainable.  The most important test of freedom is when
you are willing to stand up for other’s freedom.  Why should anyone stand up for you, if you
are not willing to do the same?

As Muslims and Americans we honor the
free speech guaranteed in our constitution. We say, let freedom of expression be
the rule to follow with no exceptions, we simply cannot go wrong.

All
the great things are born out of freedom; if the great reformers in Religious,
Social, Medical, Mathematical, and Engineering did not have the freedom to do
the right thing, none of us would have witnessed the good things we are
relishing today.

Judge
Page Hood agrees, “City of Dearborn’s (Ordinances) are declared unconstitutional
and are in violation of Plaintiff’s First Amendment rights.” We further agree
with Jones’ attorney Richard Thompson of the Thomas More Law Center in Ann
Arbor: “Judge Hood’s ruling upholds a bedrock principle of the First Amendment,
that government cannot inhibit the expression of an idea just because some find
the idea offensive.” Detroit
News
.

Indeed
our constitution should win every time. It’s grounded in solid principles to
build a lasting society with liberty and justice for all.   In the long run every human wins with the
free speech.
Muslim
Americans have stood up for free speech and will continue to stand by it. Here is a list of articles to be consistent.
