Fixing Sharing Laws

Comments Off on Fixing Sharing Laws

Rather than rejecting
Sharia out-right, we need to fix it. Sharia serves as a system of justice to the
given populations in Muslim majority nations; without it a large swatch of
population would become rudderless. Our own constitution has been amended
several times, and that is what is needed to be done with Sharia.

The right-wing Muslims will scream at
me for questioning the divinity of Sharia, and the right-wing Christians, Jews,
Hindus, and others will be calling me names, as this essay does not condemn
Sharia. They simply cannot see another point of view.

Sharia was a human
effort to dispense justice to fellow beings in accordance with Quran and the
Prophet’s examples; however, men are fallible beings and have failed to deliver
justice. They have got it all wrong when it comes to women, apostates,
blasphemers and the victims of rape. Sharia as practiced in a few of the Muslim
nations does not reflect God’s wisdom or the practice of the prophet. It needs
to be fixed badly.

Incredible Muslim contribution – 1001 Inventions.

Comments Off on Incredible Muslim contribution – 1001 Inventions.

Please take a look at this site listed below, you will be lost, there is so much to see on this site!  There are so many powerful videos, all made with grand themes and unbelievable production quality.  After a while in frustration you bang you fist, where did we go wrong from that point?

It is precisely the time when Muslims were made to shut up, and compelled not to ask questions; it is the time when Muslims were turned into takfiri robots conditioned to ignore “ Malik-i-Yomiddin” and pre-empt God in judging others to be less than Muslims or no Muslims at all.  Its time when we forgot the bottom line of God’s commandment – Mind your own damned business!

What do we need to do? First, open up our minds, no one is inferior or superior to us, except by our good acts that benefit mankind. Second we judge no one for their “faith” that is between the individual and God. Finally, learn to respect the otherness of others, that is how God has created each one of us by design, no one will bear other’s burdens, and you are responsible for you own deeds and not others. God assures his grace to everyone who takes care of his creation; life and matter.

The social atmosphere is conducive to do a lot of good to fellow beings, remember that is the highest of all the goods one can do. Just speak up, when you see something wrong, and if you do, you will be freed that you have done your job and that is the least you can do.

God has given us the life to cherish and enjoy it to the fullest both here and here after, we cannot be unjust and sacrifice one for the other.  Enjoy the God Given life, be free, Islam makes you free.

Prophet Muhammad's peace formula – Happy Milaad

Comments Off on Prophet Muhammad's peace formula – Happy Milaad
The 1444th Birth Celebration of Prophet Muhammad

I wanted to understand the prophet as a human with whom I can relate,
and critically review his contributions towards creating cohesive societies,
where no individual had to live in apprehension and fear of the other. The book,
Muhammad by Karen Armstrong was a great help in understanding the man
and his decision making process geared to create peaceful societies, and have
since come to love his work.

The best way to honor the prophet is to follow him, and become a Rahmat
(kind and just) to your spouse, kids, siblings, parents, family, friends,
customers, clients, vendors and every human around you. And if others feel safe
and secure with you, God and the prophet would be pleased with you.

I have made an attempt to narrate how the 15 incidents were influenced
by Prophet Muhammad’ peace gene.

OUR HAPPINESS IS OUR
RESPONSIBILITY
URL – http://nabsites.net/demo/our-happiness-is-our-responsiblity/

MY mother used to describe individual responsibility in
vivid terms. Whether it is a nightmare or a pleasant dream, you alone will
sweat or smile. Simplistically, if you do wrong, it’s your heinie that will be
hauled off to the jail, and you have to live with the torment and pain…others
can bail you out, but cannot live with the feelings, but sympathize. You have to live your life yourselves.

Then she would describe the end days, whether it is
imaginary or real, but the feeling is real. On the last day, the Armageddon or
Qaymat, everything around you is helter skelter, your focus will be to save
your own tail and that is very human. No one will be there for you, as each one
is busy saving his or her own.

Do you recall the announcement on the airplanes? In
case oxygen level drops, the oxygen mask will drop, and they ask you to secure
yourselves first, and THEN take care of your child and others.

I have learned that, ultimately no one but you is
responsible for your happiness, a state of mind where we are most comfortable,
secure and without fear. I have learned that we really do have the choice to
make what we make of life. Happiness is not dependent on the things you have or
the friends or family members you have, but rather your attitude towards your
situation.

You can blame others and other things, but that
will not change how you feel inside, you will have to live with yourselves.
Take charge of your life, and be yourselves.

From this moment forward, make a commitment,
however stupid it sounds, that you will be happy regardless of what surrounds
you, and you are not a puppy to dance to the tunes of others, unless you choose
to dance. Let life and all the things about life be your choice, that does not
mean you oppose everything, it simply means what the heck, I will do this.
Whatever your do in life, do it wholeheartedly.

Wish you happiness today, tomorrow and forever, the
decision is yours.

TEXAS FAITH: The religion and faith issues that will be the big story in 2014

11:14 am on January 7, 2014 | PermalinkTo start the year, let’s take a look ahead. What issue dealing with religion do you think Americans — or people around the world — will be talking about in a year that we are not discussing today?

Of course, there is some hoping and dreaming in all of this. But it is easy to get caught up in the rush of events and focus only on today. For a moment, let’s look over a longer horizon. We asked the Texas Faith panel this question:

What religious issue is likely to gain traction in 2014?

From health care, the gap between rich and poor, the Middle East, genetic medicine, Islam and the West, and most especially Pope Francis, our experts on religion and faith have predictions that are thoughtful, upbeat and diverse.

MIKE GHOUSE, President, Foundation for Pluralism and speaker on interfaith matters, Dallas

The Golden Rule in its various manifestations will gain traction in 2014.  Even though it is one of the oldest rules to create just and safe societies, its aggressive revival is taking shape now.  Mark 12:31: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

Bhagvad Gita puts the idea forward, as though it is the law of physics – for every action there is a reaction, and the water finds its own level. In chapter 4:7, Lord Krishna says, “Whenever and wherever a decline of righteousness and a predominance of unrighteousness prevails, at that time, I manifest myself personally,” and restore the balance.

Because God loves us all, he has communicated this to every society with no exception.  Quran 10:47 and in innumerable verses, “And for every Ummah (a community or a nation), there is a Messenger; when their Messenger comes, the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged.”

The idea is a part of all philosophical and religious schools and now the new school of Pluralism that I run, advocates the same idea, “If we can learn to respect the otherness of others and accept the God given uniqueness of each one of us, then conflicts fade and solutions emerge”.

The two most important people on the world stage are President Obama and Pope Francis, and both are addressing the Golden Rule, “treat others as you would treat yourselves” in its multi-dimensional forms. While one is talking about minimizing the inequities, the other is more direct about taking care of the poor. When Obama dared about the inclusion of GLBT community, there was a domino’s effect and many states have since passed the marriage equality laws. Obama care is another investment in a healthy, inclusive and productive America by treating the less fortunate with dignity.

On the political front, Obama’s treatment of Iran as an equal partner in the community of nations is about to produce lasting peace and security for Israel and all others. Instead of destructive attitudes of messing up everyone including American economy, Obama followed the Golden Rule and it works.

Every century produces a great soul and we are blessed again to start this century with Pope Francis; a mercy to mankind. His acts will bring hope and relief to the women, children, oppressed, abused, poor, minorities, the weak, and believers and non believers alike in due course.

Guru Gobind Singh's 348th Birth Anniversary Celebrations.

FESTIVALS OF THE WORLD :: GURU GOBIND SINGH’S 348TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
URL – http://nabsites.net/demo/guru-gobind-singhs-348th-bir/

Tuesday, January 7th is Guru Gobind Singh’s 348th birth anniversary. In India, particularly in the state of Punjab, huge celebrations are planned. He was the tenth of the ten Sikh Gurus, the eleventh guru being the living perpetual Guru, Guru Granth Sahib (the holy book of Sikhism).  Like his contemporaries of the time, he was a statesman, philosopher, poet, warrior and a religious leader.

Guru Gobind Singh gave the final shape to an evolving Sikh faith around 1700 AD.  He opened up the initiation ceremony (sort of Baptism) with five men by sprinkling water on them. He also branded the faith with a slogan ‘Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji Ki Fateh’ – Khalsa belongs to God; victory belongs to God).  He gave them the name “Singh” (lion), and designated them collectively as the Khalsa, the body of initiated Sikhs.

His greatest contribution to the world was keeping the ethos of Pluralism alive in a time when a ruthless Mogul King was bent on annihilation of other religious traditions. He stood up against the mighty empire and thus other religions survived.

The Guru also established distinct identity for the Sikhs with 5 unique items.

  1. Kesh: uncut hair is a symbol of acceptance of your form as God intended it to be.
  2. Kangha: a wooden comb, a symbol of cleanliness to keep one’s body and soul clean.
  3. Kara: an iron or steel bracelet worn on the forearm, to inspire one to do good things and also used in self-defense.
  4. Kirpan: a sword to defend oneself and protect other people regardless of religion, race or creed.
  5. Kacchera: undergarment reminding one to live a virtuous life and desist from rape or other sexual exploitation.

His first address to the first Sikh Congregation.

” From now on, you have become casteless. No ritual, either Hindu or Muslim, will you perform nor will you believe in superstition of any kind, but only in one God who is the master and protector of all, the only creator and destroyer. In your new order, the lowest will rank with the highest and each will be to the other a bhai (brother). No pilgrimages for you any more, nor austerities but the pure life of the household, which you should be ready to sacrifice at the call of Dharma. Women shall be equal of men in every way. No purdah (veil) for them anymore, nor the burning alive of a widow on the pyre of her spouse (sati). He who kills his daughter, the Khalsa shall not deal with him.”

‘Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji Ki Fateh

“Festivals of the World” is an educational series published by Mike Ghouse since 1993. When we live in the same communities as neighbors, we might as well learn about each other. The best way to build cohesive societies is for its members to participate in festivities as well as commemorations of each other, or at least understand each other’s’ joys and sorrows. Please note the simplicity in writing is designed for people of other faiths to learn and to know, so we can function cohesively.  This is too elementary for the followers of the faith, but informational to those who are not aware of the tradition.

Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, you and me.

Comments Off on Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, you and me.
The purpose of writing this note is for us to be conscious of the fact that, we will be redefining a lot of things.
We were formed as a Secular democracy; however, we have been an exemplary inclusive democracy. Politically, India has evolved into a two party system. Unlike the clear two dominant parties in the United States,  India coalesces regional and national parties into two major coalitions; the National Democratic Alliance with Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) as its anchor, and the United Progressive Alliance with Indian National Congress (INC) as the anchor.
Loyalty to our Nation.
For almost first half of post independent India, there was literally one party rule. If you were not with the Indian National Congress then you were less than loyal to the nation. Then came a period, where BJP ruled the nation and anyone who criticized the Government-in-essence-BJP, they were considered traitors or less than loyal to India, and it went both ways.
I hope we have come to a point where loyalty to the party will not be equated with loyalty to the nation. We need to remember that neither BJP nor Congress represents more than half of the nation now.  And we will go beyond our regional or religious affiliations in our discussions. It will be one Indian’s take against the other Indian’s take and we will do our best, for the sake of civility to not slap region or religion to it.
Let me put it the way Jesus had explained– condemn the sin and not the sinner. i.e., you and I can disagree with our takes, but not dislike each other personally. The same great ideal is in Bhagvad Gita, Quran and other holy books; we just need to practice it.
In simple words, I may not like your support for Rahul Gandhi or Narendra Modi, but I will not dislike you at all, and nor will I hold that against you. Can we do that?
The dirt that will be thrown at each other will be for political gains of the party you support. If Khalid Azam and Niranjan Patel disagree on something, it will be a civil dialogue and nothing personal. I would also hope that we have matured enough to discuss or challenge the facts, rather than just say – what do you expect from …?
At Dallas Indians, a 1725 member forum, we have seen ups and downs, and I hope to see civility in our conversation. I am sure we can, after all, we the Indians claim to be a civil people.
The forum is moderated to eliminate ads, and to keep the focus on the topic at hand instead of jumping around. To join the forum, simply send an email to DallasIndians-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
As a moderator of the forum, I want to assure you, that I am free from any prejudice towards any human, let alone a fellow Indian. Meaning, if I you see you in a party, my blood will not boil, nor will I lean over my friend and whisper bad things about you in his or her ears. My disagreement with you does not become the source of disliking you.
My book “Standing up for others” is being released by the end of this month. I simply ask you this – if any one on our forum, jumps on an individual’s region or religion, we all need to speak up. We are all Indians and nothing but Indians.

It is a delight to see inclusive politics.  I hope Arvind will affect the
other politicians to emulate him. I am deeply committed towards building
cohesive societies where every citizen feels included and no one is afraid to
live his or her life.

I don’t know if I can make it, but if I can, I want to open the Delhi state assembly session with pluralism greetings and prayers to be inclusive of every Indian from Atheist to Zoroastrian and every one in between.

Here is his full 26 minutes speech of Arvind Kejriwal: http://t.co/FppTW3aDe0
We are making a film called “Americans Together” – it will take another year or two to complete – if we get the funding, we can complete it this year. In this film, every American will be represented. The trailer is at: http://americatogetherfoundation.com/documetary/

This is a speech President Obama would have delivered.

The last century has produced Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mother and Mother Teresa, and this century has begun with Barack Obama, Pope Francis and now Arvind Kejriwal.

@ 4th minute – What does a common man want? Monica and Anjum have delivered
an identical speech in the documentary.

@ 7:30 minute – it’s all
inclusive, he defines who is an Aam Aadmi
@ 9:00 inclusive of all religions

@15:00 inclusive of all parties;  BJP and congress – it is Indians together

@18 – political inclusivism
@18:30 – rehabilitation
@20 – faith in
people’s honesty
@22 – 1339 Rapes in Delhi? 2nd only to New York – it’s a
serious issue and his response was what I expected – punishment and not revenge.

I was to cut down my time and focus on the book and building the
curriculum to teach Pluralism – but I could not resist this phenomenon; Arvind
Kejriwal.

Pope Francis is a mercy to mankind

Comments Off on Pope Francis is a mercy to mankind

Every century produces a great soul, and we are blessed again to start this century with a great human being; Pope Francis, a mercy to mankind. His acts bring hope and relief to the women, children, oppressed, poor, minorities, the weak, and believers and non believers alike. Indeed he is reinvigorating the work of Moses, Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Muhammad, and other great souls with love for humanity.

Pope Francis is my hero and my inspiration.  He represents the values of pluralism espoused by Jesus Christ. That is respecting the otherness of others and accepting the God-given uniqueness of each one of his creation. No one falls out of his ambit of love, none at all.

Pope Francis

What does mercy to mankind mean?   It is the acts and talks of an individual that brings hope and relief to women, children, oppressed, poor, and the weak.   Indeed, every religious book places a great value on taking care of fellow humans, and Quran emphasizes repeatedly about taking care of the neighbors. Once Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was asked to compare a man who was praying all the times, and other who did not but always knocks on his neighbor’s door to see if he was hungry, and if he were he would share whatever little he had. Prophet’s answer is obvious, the best one among is the one who takes care of fellow beings.

Since he became the Pope in March this year, I have followed him and have written 15 articles, and he continues to inspire me.   I watched the whole episode including the white smoke from the Chimney to his speech. I feel blessed to be the first Muslim to congratulate him.

On that day, I wrote, “I hope he heralds a new beginning for building a better world. In behalf of the people of faith or no faith, and my faith Islam, I welcome the Pope and make myself to jump at his call for creating peace in the world, where no human has to live in fear of the others, let the world be the new kingdom of heaven where we all feel safe and secure with each other. Amen”

I also wrote there are a few deeply rooted conflicts among the Muslim-Christian, Jewish-Muslim, and Jewish-Christian communities that are the root cause of much of the conflict in the world, they have been simmering within the hearts and minds of the Christians, Muslims, and Jews, and flare up now and then in difficult expressions. It is time to bring a closure to these conflicts.

The world needs a powerful personality to urge Muslims and Christians to accept the otherness of the other without the temptation to correct the other. It needs a strong personality that can absolve Jews from the myths ascribed to them. It needs a pope who is a blessed peacemaker and extends his embrace to the Pagans, Hindus, and all others who do not worship or worship God in their own way. We are all children of God and honoring each other is honoring the creator.

He has got to initiate a dialogue on same-sex marriage, women priesthood, birth control, intrafaith and interfaith relations.

The pope is singularly the most important person on the world stage besides the President of the United States who can affect positive or negative outcomes. He can aggravate the conflicts or mitigate them and earn the blessings of Jesus — Blessed are the peacemakers.

Nine months later in December, I found him to touch on every issue, indeed every issue I wrote except the women in the priesthood. Two nights ago, I jumped up watching Bill Moyers documentary with Thomas Cahill when he said, the Pope will not touch the topic for a while, indeed, that was what I had said to a few friends, that he will stabilize the current changes and then will take on the other issues. Thomas Cahill and I have fully understood the pope.

The Pope gives me the hope, that he can influence the world to be a better place to live for every human. He has already performed the acts of Jesus by embracing humanity regardless of their beliefs and practices.

Pope Francis has released his new apostolic exhortation, “Evangelii Gaudium” (The Joy of the Gospel); it was a serendipitous Chanukah gift that brought joy to the Jewish world. It’s a good step in the right direction, and I have submitted the genuine conflicts between Muslims and Christians that needs to be addressed. He has touched upon the other conflicts.

After Gandhi, MLK, Mandela, and Mother Teresa, Pope Francis is one person that does not have barriers between him and the humanity. He is almost following the teachings of Jesus and Prophet Muhammad in spirit. Let’s pray that he becomes an instrument of mercy to mankind.

If you ask me to point to an ideal Muslim, it would be Pope Francis. He would be an ideal Hindu and an ideal Jew as well.

As a Muslim I am planning to make the pilgrimage to meet this great man and commit to serve God through him in mitigating the Muslim-Christian conflict that has caused so much mis-understanding, disruption, and tension around the world. The other conflicts will follow that.

2014: A BLUE PRINT FOR A PURPOSEFUL LIFE | HAPPY NEW YEAR

You
can make your life purposeful, meaningful and enjoyable, and can choose to be the
driver of your life or be driven by others. The choice as well as the excuse is
yours.  I pray that we retain the ability
to choose what we want in our lives.

Success is not
necessarily driving a Mercedes, having a luxury home, yacht, or making over 6
figures income. It is not about doing better than your friends, classmates,
siblings or parents either.

Success is rather living the life you want to live with or without things.

Nothing in life is more
important than knowing yourselves, who you are, what is that you want and how
do you get it. Remember, no one but you knows you better.
Another
year is about to go away. LOL, some of my friends will read this note next
year, but those who read it now, I urge you to consider spending an hour with
yourselves creating a purposeful blueprint for 2014.

Where to begin?
