Did you have a good 2014?

Comments Off on Did you have a good 2014?
If you did, congratulations! Please share how you did it. If you did not, don’t despair. I will make a deal with you and nothing should be free. You do what I ask you to do in one hour’s time, and if you don’t feel lifted up and see a purposeful, meaningful and enjoyable life, then let me know.
I urge you to go to the nearest library and spend one hour in solitude with you and your note pad, no phone, no bathroom and no email diversions. Remember, you give time for others, and it is time to give that hour to yourselves, it is worth it. Review your hi’s and lo’s for the last year and work on improving on deficiencies and cherishing the good things. Don’t panic, I have made it simple for you, just read this article “Blue print for a successful life” in Huffington post. Just do it.
You must do it before the end of the year.
But if you see your 2015 could become purposeful for you, all I ask you to do is support America Together Foundation with a token of appreciation with a donation of $10 to $10,000 before the year ends for tax deductions. Go to www.AmericaTogetherFoundation.com and read “About Us”, then click the tab “Documentary” and watch the video for 11 minutes and if you feel you should support the a non-profit tax deductible foundation, donate it before 12/31/2014 at- http://americatogetherfoundation.com/donate/
Fair enough?
You choose to be the driver of your life or be driven by others. The choice as well as the excuse is yours. I pray that we retain the ability to choose what we want in our lives. If I ask you next year on 12/28/2015 how did your year go, you should be able to say, I achieved at least half of what I planned. What if you had not planned at all?

Aamir Liaqat is a Gustakh-e-Rasool chargeable for Blasphemy

Comments Off on Aamir Liaqat is a Gustakh-e-Rasool chargeable for Blasphemy

Aamir Liaqat is a Gustakh-e-Rasool and he should run like Junaid Jamshed

I consider Aamir Liaqat Show as anti-Pakistani as well as anti-Muslim.

This man must be nailed for blasphemy, he is a gustaakh-e-rasool and by association GEO TV is gustaakh-e-Rasool and the other three Mualana’s as well.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is a mercy to mankind. Geo TV, Liaqat and those irresponsible men are a Zulmat to fellow Pakistanis. Its an act of treason to bring afra-tafri to the nation. This is clear Gustakhi of Rahmatul Aalameen, peace be upon him. In ka bhi hashar Junaid Jamshed wala jaisay hona chahiye.

After making an example of these men, Blasphemy law needs to be repealed. It goes against the character of the Prophet.

The show may produce income, but lanat ho aisi kamayee per jo Pakistani ko le doobega. I do hope the Geo executives realize how dangerous these shows are? How long will you fool the Pakistani people by pitting one against the other. No one gets fed or clothed with this non-sense. Shame on this man Liaqat and the team who are hell bent on destroying Pakistan from within.

The world condemns Fox news for being anti-minority, but even they follow certain limits, how is Geo any better? Keep doing this, you will sink yourselves. Public get sick of these men.

Countering Geo TV’s hateful show

World Muslim Congress

These loonies are spreading hatred for fellow Pakistanis. Aaj Ahmadi, kal Shia, purson bina-daadi aur bina burqay walay sunni, and turson jo bhi un ki tarah namaz nahin padta.

Islam is not based on hating the other, but based on being a rahmat to others and being an Amin of the society.

News quote, “Pakistani’s largest TV network GeoTV has once again incited hatred against Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in its morning show “Subh e Pakistan” which aired on 22nd Dec 2014 and was hosted by Aamir Liaquat who hosted a similar program in 2008 which resulted in the murder of 3 Ahmadis in Pakistan.”

Unless an alternative is offered to the public, they will continue to believe what is dished out to them to the detriment of Islam and Pakistan.
We need to produce counter videos – depicting the Rahmat of the Prophet and beneficence of the creator God for the whole humanity.
 Video: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=760044760738379&set=vb.130730020336526&type=2&theater
We need volunteer actors to look like these men including Liaqat with similar set up as if produced by Geo.  Let the public decide what message is right – divisive or one based on Prophet’s Rahmat. In the titles we will disclose the purpose – it is to highlight the values of Islam
1. Rahmat
2. Justice
3. Forgiveness
4. Equality – Humility
5. Individual Responsibility
6. Caring for fellow beings
7. Respecting the otherness of others.
Hope Geo, Hum or the other guys will produce counter programs to let the public decide what is good for them.

Muslim bulletin dated December 25, 2014 to Washington Muslims

Comments Off on Muslim bulletin dated December 25, 2014 to Washington Muslims
Muslim Bulletin
Insha Allah, I will be in Washington DC between Saturday January 10 through Sunday, January 18 and again on January 26 and 27th for three specific purposes;

1. To share information about the upcoming film “Sacred” – what Muslims ought to be in a given society and hoping to change perceptions about Muslims around the world.

2. To invite participation in the 8th Annual Holocaust and Genocides commemoration, a bridge builder event set for Tuesday, January 27, 2014
3. To establish America Together foundation with a mission to build a cohesive America where no American has to live in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other. Islam would be a major beneficiary of the work and we will have a strong presence in the media.
CONTENTS OF THIS BULLETIN
  1. Upcoming film Sacred, global release
  2. Holocaust and Genocides commemoration in Washington DC
  3. Establishing America Together Foundation
  4. Islam through the lens of Pluralism
  5. A Muslim’s Christmas
  6. “PK” the film
  7. Donation

A. SACRED, THE FILM
What is Sacred, Flag, Holy Books, Mother, Freedom of Speech?

Sacred Film is about a successful real life event set in Mulberry, Florida coupled with a compelling romantic story built around the Quran burning incident. It is filled with human aspirations, fears, suspense and actions of a typical Hollywood Film.

The film skillfully manages conflicting issues of freedom of speech v what is sacred; safety of Americans v violent reactions; and radicalism v. pluralism. It is an embodiment of conflict mitigation and goodwill nurturance based on teachings of Jesus Christ and Prophet Muhammad. It is a model for building cohesive societies.  Indeed, the concept is encouraged by major institutions.
Through “Sacred”, the world will witness positive changes taking shape; it encourages what Muslims ought to be – the Amins, and how they will be perceived by the society at large. What is good for Muslims has got to be good for the world and vice-versa to restore sustainable harmony.
Sacred is an exemplary story of ordinary Muslim Americans working with fellow Americans of different faiths in forging a new paradigm; a cohesive America where no American has to live in tension, apprehension or fear of the other.

Shooting will begin in March for a September 11 release.  I will be happy to give a presentation to your group.

B. HOLOCAUST AND GENOCIDES COMMEMORATION

8TH Annual public event to be held in Dallas on Sunday 1/25 and Washington DC on Tuesday 1/27 – It is a community bridge builder.

The purpose of this event is education, information and activism. We hope to learn and acknowledge our failings and make a personal commitment to do our individual share of expressing, “Never again”.
Our mission is to create awareness of the inhumanity within each one of us and hope to find the solutions.

The civic leaders, and leaders from the Atheist, Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Islam, Jain, Jewish, Native Americans, Pagan, Sikh, Wicca, Zoroastrian and other traditions will come together and share their wisdom and their internal commitment to building a cohesive America, where no American has to live in apprehension or fear of the other. We have to do our share of creating the kingdom of heaven right here on the earth.

The Holocaust event has been commemorated by the Jewish community since 1953 for the loss of 6 million Jews during the Holocaust, known as Yom HaShoah in Synagogues around the world.  Now, we have been sharing that information along with the various Genocides and Massacres around the world with public at large.

We at America Together Foundation are committed to spreading the knowledge of Holocaust and Genocides through interfaith and public events for the last seven years.

C. AMERICA TOGETHER FOUNDATION

Our mission is to build a cohesive America, where no American has to live in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other.  We have a few clear cut goals and a few of them are as follows;

1.  Initiate a Leadership program in political Pluralism. We hope to establish the program to orient leaders with the concept of inclusiveness. We want no bigots in our politics and for that we have to start working on it – with a 10 year plan.
2. Establish the Center for Pluralism, an institute to study and teach cultural, family, social, political, and religious pluralism. The shortest definition for Pluralism would be-respecting the otherness of others and when we do that, conflicts fade and solutions will emerge.
3. Push the Interfaith dialogue to its limits, so we can face tough issues head-on, and get it over with it.  I hope we learn to live with our differences, rather than pretending to be nice and live with a load of ill-will within. Such attitudes are explosive and generate phrases like they asked for it, or they deserved it when the other group is in difficult situation.
4. A film “Americans Together, building a cohesive America” is being conceived for a 2016 Release inclusive of the presidential primaries. We are looking to have our presence in the debates as a moderator to hone on the idea of Americans Together.   Hopefully, this would be a first film where almost every representation of America can be seen. It is again a movie to reflect the book Standing up for others and building cohesive societies. The gist of the film can be seen on the home page ofwww.AmericaTogetherFoundation.com
D. ISLAM THROUGH THE LENS OF PLURALISM
Insha Allah we are holding a trial discussion on the topic with an Imam, myself and a Sunday School Muslim Teacher and address – Why are Muslims NOT confident about their faith today?  How do we create an OPEN community life as Muslims?  Is Islam our culture or our conviction? What do we need to do bring about a change? We can take this discussion to different cities.

E. A MUSLIM’S CHRISTMAS

May this Christmas open our hearts and minds to each other and let there be peace on earth. One of the most frequently used words during Christmas season is peace. Indeed, it is a reflection of the innermost desire within each one of us, whether we are Christians or not. Christmas is an annual milestone that intensifies the desire to have peace for oneself and for the world.
Christmas evokes kindness, empathy and goodness toward fellow beings; it’s a euphoric feeling of renewal that Jesus taught to the world, it is a sense of completion one feels when he or she finds in tune with humanity. Jesus showed the way by embracing the whole humanity regardless of who they were. He is my hero, he is my mentor, and he is the first known pluralist on the earth. Christmas is a celebration of that refreshed feeling.
Jesus holds a special place in every one’s heart, but particularly among Christians and Muslims, comprising over half the population of the world.
The Muslims call him Isa-Masih, the one who heals and one who brought life to the dead. The name of Jesus appears 27 times in Quran and one of the 114 Chapters is dedicated to Marryam, Mother Mary and the virgin birth.

F. “PK” – AN AMIR KHAN FILM

The movie is an educational, humorous communications, addressing the critical issues in a society, particularly from a religious point of view.  No one should miss this movie.

There is a good possibility that this movie was conceived from the ideas written by us on Pluralism.

The film is a panacea to the problems we face today.  Indeed, it reflects the values of a common man representative of the moderate majority; namely live and let live. The insecure right wing religious and political leaders of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and Sikhism may not like this film initially, but will see its value in building cohesive societies where everyone can be safe.  It is one of the best films made highlighting the value of knowing each other as encapsulated in Quran 49:13.

You name the award; the film will bag it including the Oscar.  Insha Allah, in 2015 will be the year for the film Sacred.

A Muslim's Christmas

Comments Off on A Muslim's Christmas
I have written over 20 articles on Christmas, of the hundreds I have written about Christianity under the heading “Festivals of the World” published at Huffington Post, Dallas Morning News and other Newspapers around the world. Most of the links are provided below or you can Google the phrase “Mike Ghouse Christmas”

This time, I want to include quotes from my face book friends in my upcoming article on Christmas. If you can write what Christmas means to you in 30 words or less, I will include one or two best quotes from each major faith or secular practitioner – that is from a Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Baha’i, Sikh, Wicca, Native American, Pagan, Atheist, Jain, Buddhist and other. All the best quotes will be included at the Pluralism Blog though. You can write and rewrite several times until you get it perfect. It will be published in a major News paper including my blogs on Pluralism.

More than likely Pope Francis and I will be delivering a similar message on Christmas. I am in tune with him since he was appointed. He is a genuine religious leader of humanity who will be shaping the religious landscape of the world. Indeed he is my religious mentor. Mahatma Gandhi, my mentor had said, a true Christian is a true Muslim, is a true Jew, is a true Hindu, is a true Sikh or true whatever. Yes, he is a Christian and I am a Muslim and we follow the same path – that of caring for all of God’s creation without  undermining or discriminating any, and embracing every one of humanity.

Pope Francis is a mirror of Jesus, Muhammad, Moses, Krishna, Buddha, Nanak, the great native shamans and all the other great men and women who did not have walls between them.  May God bless them all.

“Festivals of the World” is an educational series that I have been writing for the last 20 years. When we live in a community as neighbors and work together as colleagues, we might as well learn about each other. The best way to build cohesive societies is to participate in festivities as well as commemorations of each other, or at least understand each other’s’ joys and sorrows. A cohesive society, neighborhood or a community shapes up when no one lives in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other.

Please note the simplicity in writing is designed for people of other faiths to learn and to know, so we can function cohesively.

You can write your comments here on facebook at Speaker Mike Ghouse

Let it be known that your quote will be read by thousands, as my articles are copied by multiple news papers and websites. Google the phrase “Mike Ghouse Christmas” and see all my articles.

Fixing the Muslim Mistakes

Comments Off on Fixing the Muslim Mistakes
On Diane Rehm Show this morning, three callers in a row attacked Islam and were building on each other.  Yesterday, a guy in Wisconsin drove his car right into two Somali kids killing one, he was threatening them that he would do so because they were Muslims.  Thanks to the Law enforcement, otherwise these incidents would have been more frequent.
Islamophobia is growing and the more we “fight” the more it blazes and we cannot be silent either. There is a way out to reverse the trend if we work on it.  It is like the frustration game kids play – a head pops up from surface of the game board, you bang it down with a wood hammer, and another head pops up. This will continue unless we take steps to mitigate it.

The most effective antidote to Islamophobia is to become a part of the society and quit living in silos.  We need to seriously invest our time in building cohesive societies for the safety of all people, and that time comes from cutting our time at Mosques or other activities.  Hold your judgment and think about it, which is indeed the formula prescribed by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

We practice our religion upside down – we attempt to put the roof on the house even before laying the foundation or erecting the frame.

We wear our beards, Muslim garbs or Hijabs to loudly tell the world that we are Muslims. Did we lay the foundation first? Are we the Amins?
That’s how prophet built Islam – a system to live in peace with oneself and with others. First, he laid the foundation necessary to build such system, he chose to become the Amin of the society; people trusted him, liked him for his fairness and caring and he was just towards all people. He knew everyone around him. He was friends with all, and was a mercy to mankind, was he not? Shouldn’t we be a mercy to fellow beings?  Isn’t that the second foundational Sunnah after being the Amin?
We need to ask ourselves if we have at least a friend or two in each faith, race or other cultures.  If not, why not? Do we participate in events of our friends who are not Muslims? Those few who attend find themselves to be the only Muslim in the entire group. How many times have you discovered that your mere presence has prevented the others from Islam bashing? How many times have you been asked, if other Muslims are like you?  Shouldn’t we be the Amin’s first before we flaunt our Muslimness through externalities?

Ask those Amins among us, how they have practiced Islam by building a positive image of Muslims, and by being with others just with the first and second Sunnah and without the exhibitive Sunnah.  There are many good examples, and I hope you have your own examples to share.  Dr. Arjumad Hashmi has done that in Paris, Texas, and last night it was a joy to see Dr. Nabil Syed in a gathering of Indian Doctors.  We don’t drink and we had plenty of Vegetarian food, and we don’t have to make a big deal about being Muslims through Halal food and no alcohol.  You can give a lot more examples than me and let’s build on it.

We need to re-set our priorities given our situation.  We need to restart ourselves. Become the Amin first, and then wear all the garb, beard and Hijab we want– you will not stick out, because you have become a part of the society and your religion is not preventing you from being with other people.  God would not have said the best ones amongst you are the ones who learn about each other. If we can learn to respect the otherness of others and accept the God given uniqueness of each one of us, then conflicts fade and solutions emerge.

On your part, you can do simple things and they are laid out in the following articles:

A Muslim Organization committed to promoting Civic Islam

Insha Allah, I will be heading to Washington DC and start working on Public Relations with a twofold objective to promote the foundational civic Islam and changing perceptions about Islam.  If it is not common sense, then it is not Islam. Would you support this?  All we need is office rent, a paid assistant and expenses to run it.
This will supplement the great work done by CAIR, ISNA, ICNA, MAS, MYNA, MPAC and other organizations.
Take a look at these events.

Malala’s speech upon receiving of the Nobel Price

Satyarthi’s acceptance speech

FULL TEXT OF THE PROCLAMATION BY WORLD MUSLIM CONGRESS
Whereas, Malala represents the voices of over 60 Million girls around the world who are deprived of education, and
Whereas, Malala’s commitment to education despite the threats to her life against her is admired,  and
Whereas,  Satyarthi’s call to rescue children from child labor despite the threats is admired, and
Whereas, Satyarthi and Malala give hope to the people of India and Pakistan to bring peace, and stability to the Subcontinent, and

Whereas, Malala is awarded the prestigious international award of the Nobel Prize to the youngest person in the history, and

Whereas, Satyarthi is awarded the prestigious international award for a new category is awarded, and
Now therefore, I , Mike Ghouse, President of the Foundation for Pluralism and World Muslim Congress, in behalf of our trustees and members, do hereby urge the people of India and Pakistan to observe “Malala Satyarthi Day” by talking about them and thinking about how each one of us can contribute towards the well being of the people of the subcontinent.

Malala is God’s gift to Pakistan and to Muslims.
Yes, until recently almost every terror activity was traced to Pakistan. The Pakistanis and Muslims badly needed a star that can change how they were perceived, and here comes Malala breaking all the stereotypes. Yes Muslim girls do stand up and do dare, and demand their right to be educated.
Every child, teen and an adult has someone or the other he or she looks up to, and wants to-be-like that person and eventually becomes that person.  Indeed, good role models are a key to the success of a civil society.
I have been studying religious pluralism and civil societies for the last twenty years, and have found a sense of regret among Muslims for the dearth of role models. Invariably they compare themselves with the Jewish community more often than they care to admit.
At least twice a year, an email makes the rounds showing the innumerable Nobel laureates among the tiny Jewish community versus the negligible numbers among the big Muslim community. It almost appears that they cannot move forward without someone leading them.
Thank God, he gave Malala to Pakistan and the Muslim world; regardless of what the naysers say, Malala has made a huge difference, she is a Muslim and she makes sense. Now Pakistan can brag about her, just as Muslims around the world can brag about her.  We need 5 more Malalas to negate the Baghdadis, Ayman al-Zawahiri.
I don’t know about you, but I was teary about three times during her speech. She is a hope for Muslims.

TRANSCRIPT OF MALALA SPEECH

[Malala Yousafzai – Nobel Peace Prize Winner – Speech]
[Malala Yousafzai (July 12, 1997):] Source: LYBIO.net
In the name of God the most beneficent, the most merciful who is the God of all mankind. Wherever I go and speak, the only problem I face is that the podium is usually taller than me. So I hope it will be good this time.
I’m feeling honored that I am being chosen as a Nobel laureate and I have been honored with this – this precious award, the Nobel Peace Prize. And I’m proud that I’m the first Pakistani and the first young woman or the first young person who is getting this award. It’s a great honor for me. And I’m also really happy that I’m sharing this award with a person – with a person from India whose name is Kailash Satyarthi and his great work for child’s right, his great work against – against child slavery.
Totally inspires me and I am really happy that there are so many people who are working for children’s right and I’m not alone. And he totally deserved this award.
So I am feeling honored that I’m sharing this award with him (Satyarthi).
He recieved this award and we both are the two Nobel award receivers, one is from Pakistan, one is from India, one believes in Hinduism, one strongly believes in Islam. And it gives a message to people – it gives a message to people of love between Pakistan and India and between – between different religions and we both support each other.
It does not matter what’s the color of your skin, what language do you speak, what religion you believe in. It is that we should all consider each other as human beings and we should respect each other and we should all fight for our rights, for the rights of children, for the rights of women and for the rights of every human being.
First of all, I would like to thank my family, my dear father, my dear mother for their love, for their support. As my father always say, he did not give me something extra, but what he did Dad, he did not clip my wings. So I’m thankful to my father for not clipping my wings, for – for letting me to fly and achieve my goals, for showing to the world that a girl is not supposed to be the – a slave.
A girl has the power to go forward in her life. And she’s not only a mother, she’s not only a sister, she’s not only a wife. But a girl has the – she should have an identity. She should be recognized and she has equal rights as a boy. Even though my brother thinks that they are treated um…um… — that I am treated very well and they are not treated very well. But that’s fine. If it comes – if it’s that – that’s fine.
Um…I would like to share with you how I found out about the Nobel Peace Prize and it’s quite exciting because I was in my chemistry class and we were studying about electrolysis and [inaudible] and the time was, I think 10:15. So the time of the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize was gone and before that I was not expecting that I would get this award and when it went to, like, 10:15, I was totally sure that I haven’t won it. But then suddenly one of my teachers came to the class and she called me and she said, “I have something important to tell you.” And I was totally surprised when she told me congratulations, you have won the Nobel Peace Prize and you are sharing it with a – with a great person who is also working for children’s rights. And I – it’s sometimes quite difficult to express your feelings, but I felt really honored.
I felt more powerful and more courageous because this award is not just a piece of metal or a medal that you would wear, or an award that you would keep in your room, but this is really an encouragement for me to go forward and to believe in myself. To know that there are people who are supporting me in this campaign. And we are standing together. We all want to make sure that every child gets quality education. So this is really — this is really something – something great for me.
However, when I found that I have won the Nobel Peace Prize, I decided that I would not leave my school, rather I would finish my school time, I would — I went to physics lesson, I learned, I went to English lessons and it was totally like uh… I considered it as a normal day and I was really happy by the response of my teachers and my fellow students. They were all saying that we are proud of you and uh… I’m really thankful to my school, to my teachers, to my school fellows for their love, for their support and really encouraged me and they’re supporting me. So I’m happy. Even though it’s not going to help me in my tests and exams because it totally depends on my hard work. But, still, I’m really happy that they are supporting me.
[Malala Yousafzai:] Source: LYBIO.net
I have got – I have received this award, but this is not the end. This is not the end. This is not the end of this campaign which I have started. I think this is really the beginning and I want to see every child going to school. There are still 57 million children who have not received education, who are still out of the primary schools and I want to see every child going to school and getting – getting education because I have – I have myself suffered through the same situation when I was in swat valley and you all may know that in swat there was Talibanization and because of that no girl was allowed to go to school.
At that time I stood up for my rights and I said I would speak up. I do not wait for someone else. I do not wait for someone else. I had really two options. One was not to speak and wait to be killed. And the second was – and the second was to speak up and then be killed and I chose the second one because at that time there was terrorism, women were not allowed to go outside of their houses because education was totally banned, people were killed. At that time I needed to raise my voice because I wanted to go back to school. I was also one of those girls who could not get education.
I wanted to learn I wanted to learn and be who – who I can be in my future. And I also had dreams. I also had dreams like a normal child has.
I wanted to become a doctor at that time. Now I want to become a politician, a good politician. And when I heard that I can not go to school, I just for a second thought that I would never able become a doctor or I would never be able to be who I want to be in the future and my life would be just getting married at the age of 13 or 14, not going to school, not becoming who I really can be so I decided that – that I will speak up.
So through my story I want to tell other children all around the world that they should stand up for their rights. They should not wait for someone else and their voices are more powerful. Their voices – it would seem that they are weak, but at the time when no one speak, your voice gets so loud that everyone has to listen to it. Everyone has to hear it. So it’s my message to children all around the world that they should stand up for their rights.
And the award that I have received uh…Nobel Peace Prize. I believe that the Nobel Committee, they – they haven’t given this just to me. But this award is for all those children who are voiceless, whose voices need to be heard. And I speak for them and I stand up with them and I join them in their campaign, that their voices should be heard and they should be listened and they have rights. They have rights. They have the right to receive quality education. They have the right not to suffer from child labor, not to suffer from child trafficking. They have the right to live a happy life. So I stand up with – with all those children and this award is especially for them. It gives them courage.
At the end, um…I would like to share with you that I had a phone call with honorable Kailash. I cannot pronounce his surname accurately so please I just ask for forgiveness for that. I will just call him Kailash if he wouldn’t mind. So I had a phone call with him right now and we both talked about how important it is that every child goes to school and every child gets quality education and how many issues are there that the children are suffering, but I’m not yet highlighted. So we both decide – we both decided that we will work together for the cause that every child gets quality education and do not suffer from these issues.
Other than that, we also decided that as he’s from India and I’m from Pakistan we will try to build strong relationships between India and Pakistan. And nowadays you know that there is tension on the border and the situation is getting uh…it’s not like as we are expecting, we want Pakistan and India to have good relationships and the tension that is going on is disappointing and I’m really sad because I want both the countries to have dialogue, to have talks about peace, and to – to think about progress, to think about development, rather than fighting with each other. It’s important that both countries focus more on education, focus more on development and progress, which is good for both of them.
So we both decided that um…I requested him that would it be possible that he request His Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join us when we receive the Nobel Peace Prize in December. And I promised him that I would also request the honorable prime minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, to join us when I get and he gets the Nobel Peace Prize. So, and I myself request the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and honorable Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, that they both join us when we receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
I really believe in peace. I really believe in tolerance and patience and it is very important for the progress of both countries that they have peace and they have good relationships. This is how they are going to achieve success and this is how they’re going to – they are going to progress.
So it is my humble request and I hope it will be – hope it will be listened.
[Malala Yousafzai:] Source: LYBIO.net
At the end, I want to say that I’m really happy for your support.
I used to say that I think I do not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. I still believe that. But I believe that it is not only an award for what I have done but also an encouragement for giving me hope, for giving me the courage to go and continue this campaign, to believe in myself and to know that I’m not alone, there are hundreds and thousands and millions who are supporting me.
So once again, thank you so much to all of you. Thank you.

TRANSCRIPT OF SATYARTHI SPEECH

Here is the full text of Mr Satyarthi’s speech as uploaded on the Nobel website.

Let Us Globalise Compassion, and Set Our Children Free

My dear children of the world…

Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Excellencies, distinguished members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, dear brother Tom Harkin, brothers and sisters, a and my dear daughter Malala.

From this podium of peace and humanity, I am deeply honoured to recite a mantra from the ancient texts of wisdom, Vedas.

This mantra carries a prayer, an aspiration and a resolve that has the potential to liberate humanity from all man-made crises.

Let’s walk together. In the pursuit of global progress, not a single person should be left out or left behind in any corner of the world, from East to West, from South to North.

Let’s speak together, let our minds come together! Learning from the experiences of our ancestors, let us together create knowledge for all that benefits all.

I bow to my late parents, to my motherland India, and to the mother earth.

With a warm heart I recall how thousands of times, I have been liberated, each time I have freed a child from slavery. In the first smile of freedom on their beautiful faces, I see the Gods smiling.

I give the biggest credit of this honour to my movement’s Kaalu Kumar, Dhoom Das and Adarsh Kishore from India and Iqbal Masih from Pakistan who made the supreme sacrifice for protecting the freedom and dignity of children. I humbly accept this award on behalf of all such martyrs, my fellow activists across the world and my countrymen.

My journey from the great land of Lord Buddha, Guru Nanak and Mahatma Gandhi; India to Norway is a connect between the two centres of global peace and brotherhood, ancient and modern.

Friends, the Nobel Committee generously invited me to deliver a “lecture.” Respectfully, I am unable to do that.

I represent here the sound of silence. The cry of innocence. And, the face of invisibility. I have come here to share the voices and dreams of our children, our children, because they are all our children.

I have looked into their frightened and exhausted eyes. And I have heard their urgent questions:

Twenty years ago, in the foothills of the Himalayas, I met a small, skinny boy. He asked me: “Is the world so poor that it cannot give me a toy and a book, instead of forcing me to take a tool or gun?”

I met with a Sudanese child-soldier who was kidnapped by an extremist militia. As his first training, he was forced to kill his friends and family. He asked me: “What is my fault?”

Twelve years ago, a child-mother from the streets of Colombia – trafficked, raped, enslaved – asked me this: “I have never had a dream. Can my child have one?”

There is no greater violence than to deny the dreams of our children.

The single aim of my life is that every child is:

free to be a child,

free to grow and develop,

free to eat, sleep, see daylight,

free to laugh and cry,

free to play,

free to learn, free to go to school, and above all,

free to dream.

All the great religions tell us to care for children. Jesus said: “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to them.” The Holy Quran says: “Kill not your children because of poverty.”

I refuse to accept that all the temples and mosques and churches and prayer houses have no place for the dreams of our children.

I refuse to accept that the world is so poor, when just one week of global spending on armies is enough to bring all of our children into classrooms.

I refuse to accept that all the laws and constitutions, and the judges and the police are not able to protect our children.

I refuse to accept that the shackles of slavery can ever be stronger than the quest for freedom.

I REFUSE TO ACCEPT.

I am privileged to work with many courageous souls who also refuse to accept. We have never given up against any threat and attack, and we will never. Undoubtedly, progress has been made in the last couple of decades. The number of out of school children has been halved. Child mortality and malnutrition has been reduced, and millions of child deaths have been prevented. The number of child labourers in the world has been reduced by a third. Make no mistake, great challenges still remain.

Friends, the biggest crisis knocking on the doors of humanity today is intolerance.

We have utterly failed in imparting an education to our children. An education that gives the meaning and objective of life and a secure future. An education that builds a sense of global citizenship among the young people. I am afraid that the day is not far when the cumulative result of this failure will culminate in unprecedented violence that will be suicidal for humankind.

Yet, young people like Malala, are rising up everywhere and choosing peace over violence, tolerance over extremism, and courage over fear.

Solutions are not found only in the deliberations in conferences and prescriptions from a distance. They lie in small groups and local organisations and individuals, who confront the problem every day, even if they remain unrecognised and unknown to the world.

Eighteen years ago, millions of my brothers and sisters in 103 countries marched across 80,000 kilometres. And, a new international law against child labour was born. We have done this.

You may ask: what can one person do? Let me tell you a story I remember from my childhood: A terrible fire had broken out in the forest. All the animals were running away, including the lion, king of the forest. Suddenly, the lion saw a tiny bird rushing towards the fire. He asked the bird, “what are you doing?” To the lion’s surprise, the bird replied “I am on my way to extinguish the fire.” He laughed and said, “how can you kill the fire with just one drop of water, in your beak?” The bird was adamant, and said, “But I am doing my bit.”

You and I live in the age of rapid globalisation. We are connected through high-speed Internet. We exchange goods and services in a single global market. Each day, thousands of flights connect us to every corner of the globe.

But there is one serious disconnect. It is the lack of compassion. Let us inculcate and transform the individuals’ compassion into a global movement. Let us globalise compassion. Not passive compassion, but transformative compassion that leads to justice, equality, and freedom.

Mahatma Gandhi said, “If we are to teach real peace in this world… we shall have to begin with the children.” I humbly add, let us unite the world through the compassion for our children.

Whose children are they who stitch footballs, yet have never played with one? They are our children. Whose children are they who mine stones and minerals? They are our children. Whose children are they who harvest cocoa, yet do not know the taste of a chocolate? They are all our children.

Devli was born into intergenerational debt and bonded labour in India. Sitting in my car immediately after her rescue the eight-year-old girl asked: Why did you not come earlier? Her angry question still shakes me – and has the power to shake the world. Her question is for all of us. Why did we not come earlier? What are we waiting for? How many more Devlis will we allow to go without rescue? How many more girls will be abducted, confined and abused? Children, like Devli across the world are questioning our inaction and watching our actions.

We need collective actions with a sense of urgency. Every single minute matters, every single child matters, every single childhood matters.

I challenge the passivity and pessimism surrounding our children. I challenge this culture of silence, this culture of neutrality.

I, therefore, call upon all the governments, intergovernmental agencies, businesses, faith leaders, the civil society, and each one of us, to put an end to all forms of violence against children. Slavery, trafficking, child marriages, child labour, sexual abuse, and illiteracy have no place in any civilised society.
Friends, we can do this.

Governments must make child friendly policies, and invest in education and young people.

Businesses must be more responsible and open to innovative partnerships.

Intergovernmental agencies must work together to accelerate action.

Global civil society must rise above business-as-usual and scattered agendas.

Faith leaders and institutions, and all of us must stand with our children.

We must be bold, we must be ambitious, and we must have the will. We must keep our promises.

Over fifty years ago, on the first day of my school I met a cobbler boy my age sitting at the school gate, polishing shoes. I asked my teachers these questions: “Why is he working outside? Why is he not coming to school wit
h me?” My teachers had no answer. One day, I gathered the courage to ask the boys’ father. He said: “Sir, I have never thought about it. We are just born to work.” This made me angry. It still makes me angry. I challenged it then, and I am challenging it today.

As a child, I had a vision of tomorrow. That cobbler boy was studying with me in my classroom. Now, that tomorrow has become TODAY. I am TODAY, and you are TODAY. TODAY it is time for every child to have the right to life, the right to freedom, the right to health, the right to education, the right to safety, the right to dignity, the right to equality, and the right to peace.

TODAY, beyond the darkness, I see the smiling faces of our children in the blinking stars. TODAY, in every wave of every ocean, I see our children playing and dancing. TODAY, in every plant, tree, and mountain, I see that little cobbler boy sitting with me in the classroom.

I want you to see and feel this TODAY inside you. My dear sisters and brothers, may I ask you to close your eyes and put your hand close to your heart for a moment?   Can you feel the child inside you? Now, listen to this child. I am sure you can!

Today, I see thousands of Mahatma Gandhis, Martin Luther Kings, and Nelson Mandelas marching forward and calling on us. The boys and girls have joined. I have joined in. We ask you to join too.

Let us democratise knowledge.

Let us universalise justice.

Together, let us globalise compassion, for our children!

I call upon you in this room, and all across the world.

I call for a march from exploitation to education, from poverty to shared prosperity, a march from slavery to liberty, and a march from violence to peace.

Let us march from darkness to light. Let us march from mortality to divinity.

Let us march!

How ISIS Drives Muslims From Islam, what can we do?

Comments Off on How ISIS Drives Muslims From Islam, what can we do?

Here is my response to Friedman’s article appended below.

Muslim majority nations have had Sharia laws to govern throughout their history, and that is the only system they are familiar with. They simply cannot imagine governance without it and will continue to resist it.

We the people, both Muslims and non-Muslims alike have a responsibility to understand this, we cannot force our ways onto others overnight, we cannot even talk about stripping Sharia Laws they are used to however wrong they may be. We have to find a way for transition without violent overthrow of the existing systems that would bring more chaos than they have now. Iraq is the best example.  Insha Allah, time permitting, I will write a full paper on it if I decide to go full time service.

I have challenged the Pew Survey for their thoughtless methodology of asking people if they want Sharia Laws, the results were an eye opener. Nations like Indonesia, Albania, Kazakhstan and others showed less than 10% of the population wanting it, whereas Egypt, Pakistan and other nations were going over 75%. The difference is crystal clear for a genuine analyst – Where people are familiar with other laws, they opted for that, and where they knew nothing about other laws, they stuck with the only thing they knew; Sharia.http://worldmuslimcongress.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-worlds-muslims-beliefs-about-sharia.html

Hold your prejudice, Sharia is not the problem, it was designed to serve justice, the intent was good. However, flaws have crept into the system, directly going against the Quran’s wisdom, instead of justice; injustice is meted out to women in case of rape and adultery, divorce, apostasy, blasphemy and other ills.  You don’t throw your computer away because of malfunctioning; you isolate the problem and fix it. The same applies to Sharia. I have put together a precise paper on the topic. http://sharialaws.blogspot.com/2014/01/fixing-sharia-laws.html
The Western world has seen governance by the people for the people in the last 250 years after ravaging conflicts among different denominations. Muslims have lived under the thumb of colonialism, and when the colonists start giving up in the last 100 years, they left this to the damned monarchs, tyrants and dictators.  Muslims never had the freedom to self-govern with the exception of a few nations including Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan to an extent. If not the dictators, they had authoritative figures popped up like Banna, Maududi and their ilk who made themselves to be God like figures beyond questioning.

A majority of Muslims understand freedom; they live in democracies like Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Turkey and some of the central Asian Nations and to a greater extent Pakistan and Bangladesh constitute over 2/3rds of Muslims. We can hope for and count on them to fight for sanity and freedom to prevail.

However 40% of Muslims live in dictatorships – nearly 45 out of 57 Muslim majority nations are not democracies. Thanks to the internet, they can see what freedom is and hope they will see how to manage. Egypt failed and resorted to authoritarianism again. Tunisia is a shining example of that struggle.

My suggestion; Let people have the freedom to choose. Instead of goddamned “telling” others, let’s learn to “suggest” and show them the benefits of democracy.  Disgusted with dictatorial religious nuts and monarchs, more and more people are choosing to walk away from Islam, I have no problem with that, Quran’s wisdom and the prophet believed in free will, there is no compulsion, let you be who you are, and I am who I am, and let’s figure out how to live and function together with least problems
As a pluralist Muslim committed to cohesive societies, I believe no human has to live in fear of the other, which is the inherent purpose of all religions. If it is their choice to leave Islam, they should exercise their free will with no consequence, but if it’s driven by disgust against Islam by misunderstanding it, then we have to find means to clarify that. Islam is not the problem and don’t blame the bad governance and dictatorial religious leadership on Islam. Knowledge leads to understanding and understanding to acceptance of the uniqueness of each one of us.

Interfaith thanksgiving celebrations with Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson

Comments Off on Interfaith thanksgiving celebrations with Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson

Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas presided over the proceedings of the 16th annual thanksgiving celebrations and awards night on Saturday, November 22, 2014. It is a bridge building event between communities.

We ought to be thankful to Native Americans, who did not put the electric fence around Americas to keep the illegal aliens like Columbus and other Europeans from entering America without a visa.  Today, we are a nation of immigrants, other than the natives; almost all of us are immigrants from one to several generations.

The event was organized by America Together Foundation, World Muslim Congress. And the Foundation for Pluralism, all committed to building a cohesive America where no American has to live in tension, discomfort, apprehension or fear of the other.

The purpose of celebrating this event was to thank God for guiding us to learn to respect the otherness of others, and accept the God given uniqueness of each one of us.  And more importantly it is to familiarize the new immigrants with the festivities.  You’ll be surprised to find that many of them have not even seen the thanksgiving meal and its fixings. It was not a part of their study for citizenship and apparently no one has done this as a public event.
“Congresswoman Johnson represents the aspiration of fellow Americans; justice and liberty for every American in his or her pursuit of happiness, and she fights for that relentlessly – Is that the kind of congressperson we want?, well here she is.” Mike Ghouse welcomed her amidst a thunderous applause.

To paraphrase Congresswoman Johnson, “we have made sacrifices to respect the human rights, civil liberties and freedom for our new generations and now they have those rights.   On the map of the world, ours is still the best country.  The immigrant community has always played an important role in the development of US.”

It was a delight to watch the Congresswoman carve the symbolic turkey, and sharing what thanksgiving means to her; to count your blessings.  For many a immigrants it is an introduction to the American way of life and who else can do a better job than the Congresswoman? Through her efforts and against all impediments, she has realized her American dream.

Chef Ali of Spicy Cuisine in Irving prepared delicious vegetarian and non-veg meals with a fixing of thanksgiving delicacies.

Congresswoman Johnson presented the awards to four community leaders and delivered a beautiful keynote address on gratitude, while highlighting the need for events like this to bring people together regardless of their political, religious, racial or and social affiliation to build a safe, secure and a cohesive America.

Mike Ghouse, president of the foundation shared the real life stories that exemplify thanksgiving; stories about Appaiah and the hospitality in Saudi Arabia. How each one of us can restore the spiritual balance within and live a productive, meaningful and a purposeful life. The Appaiah story was published in Huffington Post Link , and the Saudi story, all pictures, and notes will be atwww.ThanksgivingCelebrations.org

The attendees were represented by people of different faiths, races, political orientations and other uniqueness’s. They cheered on when Mike Ghouse, chair of the event asked. Whether you are Jewish, Hindu, Muslim, Gay, Lesbian, Black, White, Native, Immigrant, Republican or Democrat, how many of you like to see your Congress person represent you with equal care and consideration? How many of you would like to see your congress person treat you with dignity and respect regardless of who you are?  Well here she is, Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson.”She delivered a beautiful key note speech about Gratitude.

The following individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions to building bridges in the communities we live – the title conferred upon all of them was “Pluralist” – meaning someone who respects the otherness of others.Every society has heroes – that is men and women who have gone beyond their normal self to serve the communities at large, and it is our responsibility as a society to acknowledge, cherish and honor them.

Here is a brief introduction of the recipients; detail profiles will be available at www.thanksgivingcelebrations.org

Raja Zahid A. Khanzada – a Journalist for his “Commitment to truth in Journalism.” He reports for the top news media conglomerates in Pakistan and has been a catalyst in a process of “forgiveness” of the robbers – where they surrendered their guns in return for acceptance in the society to live and breathe a normal life, and be the contributors of the nation. It is sort of what President Obama is doing with the undocumented aliens, a noble thing to do.  Raja is a relentless pursuer of education with three Master’s degrees and a degree in Homeopathic medical sciences and holds certification from American Alternative Medicine Practitioner Board in practice of alternative medicine.  He amazed everyone when he asked his mother to receive the plaque.

Amina Rab – a community activist and leader for “Building Bridges.” Amina is deeply committed to building bridges between the Muslim community and other communities.  It is not her job, but a passion to build bridges. She is the President of the Council on American Islamic Relations- DFW chapter and is the first woman to serve on the North Texas Islamic Council, and is a founding Board member of Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation.   She is a Scientist in the healthcare industry for 20 years.  Amina is an entrepreneur with a home based business, a mother, a grandmother and a community Activist with a passion to promote peace and justice in the world.

Anne Marie Weiss – a community leader for “Bringing the DFW communities together.”  Anne Marie single handedly started the DFW international in early nineties – she had the vision for making the Dallas/ Fort worth an international Metroplex, even before it was declared as such.  Today, DFW International has become an exemplary institution in America. There is nothing like it.  Where can you find connections to every cultural, religious, social and ethnic group in one place? None in America! She has put Dallas Fort Worth on the world Map. If you see the demographic statistics of nationalities and ethnicities in Dallas, it was her effort.  It is her selfless devotion to the belief that DFW should genuinely reflect its diversity.

Sante Santhanam Chary –is a national figure in “Connecting the World Leaders.” Sante is one of the very few Americans, perhaps the only immigrant who has met, shook hands and shared a message with 7 American Presidents and 8 Indian Presidents/Prime Ministers. Sante is continuously forging political and business ties between the United States and India and in September this year, he got the US Senate to pass a resolution creating “2014 U.S.-India Partnership Day” to honor Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US.

He has set a new world record by collecting over 55 contemporary signatures in solidarity on a USPS issued First Day Envelope with Mahatma Gandhi’s stamp on it. Sante is a healthcare entrepreneur with a focus on physician staffing services to small towns in the US.  He is a graduate of The Harvard Business School and the Thomas Jefferson School of Law.

We are one nation.

Collectively, we are one nation under God represented by every race, religion, political orientation, nationality, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation and culture. Everything that God has created in the universe, we have it here in America. Indeed, we are God’s own country.

As Americans together, we see God as one, none and many and in every form; male, female, genderless and non-existent, being and non-being, nameless and with innumerable names. Our organization, America together Foundation is committed to preserve this pluralistic heritage of America.
Most of the problems we have in our nation can be traced to one thing – not knowing and being judgmental about others. Whether it is Ferguson, Homophobia, Anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, Misogyny or whatever evils creep on us, they gain ground because we don’t know each other.

How do we come out of these and create a cohesive nation where no one has to live in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other? At America Together foundation we have plans to bring about this change.

A full report with speeches and pictures will be published in a week.

Takfiri Conference in Iran – My reccomendations

Comments Off on Takfiri Conference in Iran – My reccomendations
Salaam,

We are pleased to make the following recommendation to the conference to adopt in their resolution. We recommend that Takfir be declared as sinful as Shirk.

Iran is holding the first conference on Takfiri movement that is those individuals who declare fellow Muslims to be not Muslims. It is a good first step, and we need to make resolutions and the decisions to reach out to common Muslims, who will not give currency to such calls.

The biggest sin in Islam is Shirk, i.e., diluting God’s authority over creation, preservation and destruction of the world.  He alone is the master of the Day of Judgment, and he alone knows what is in one’s hearts, and he alone can judge about ones’ faith.  No one but him (it, or her) has the authority to do that.

A Muslim is someone who subscribes (or submits) to that idea and practices it.

Takfiris are individuals who push themselves to become representatives of God and make decisions in his behalf – like giving an opinion that Sunnis, Shias or Ahmadiyya are not Muslims.

Shirk is not believing in singularity of the creator, and accountability to one single preserver, where the buck stops with him.

In Quran God has made that clear, that he alone is the Malik-i-Yomiddin, and no one but him judges people on their faith, he alone knows what is in one’s heart.  And every Muslim who prays five times recites that verse at least 17 times a day. What for?

I recommend to the conference that they consider declaring Takfir amounts to Shirk – and spread the word. Hopefully it will mitigate the conflicts within the Muslim communities.

Shamefully the bastions of Shia and Sunni Islam; Iran and Saudi Arabia respectively are engaged in this cold war for their political reasons, obviously it is not a religious reason, the looney clergies in both nations need to be restrained or their certifications  be stripped.

If it is not common sense, then it is not Islam.

The International Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements in the Islamic Scholars’ View closed its works in the presence of Prominent Muslim scholars from 83 countries on Monday Nov 24. 2014 in Qom city of Iran.

According to the Secretary of the World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought, Ayatollah Mohsen Araki, the conference was an intellectual and scholarly event in which Muslim world scholars gather to discuss their views on extremism.

This was one of the few occasions where top Muslim Shiite and Sunni clerics and scholars from across the world were seen under one roof to exchange views on a subject which has turned into the biggest challenge for the world of Islam next to the issue of Palestine.

The event was titled the world congress on extremism and Tekfiri movements in the Islamic scholars’ view. Jointly organized by two of Iran’s prominent religious clerics Grand Ayatollah’s Makarem Shirazi and Grand Ayatollah Sobhani the congress is centered on the role of top Muslim clerics or Ulama, in uniting the Islamic world against Tekfiri terrorists.

Some scholars believe that barbaric acts of decapitating prisoners by groups like the ISIL are an Israeli project aimed at diverting the public opinion towards the suppression of Palestinians by Israeli.

Needless to say, more than 1000 abstract papers and 700 full papers had been submitted to the conference and 200 Shi’ah scholars and 100 Sunni scholars including muftis and prominent figures were present at the international gathering.

The holy city of Qom hosted this one of a kind event on November 23-24 which was held under the auspices of two grand sources of emulation Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi and Ayatollah Ja’far Sobhani.
