When a terrorist attacks and claims to be a
Muslim who follows Islam, would you be gullible to buy his alibi, and look for
faults with his religion rather than nailing him for his acts?
Shouldn’t your attitude be, “Don’t give me that
crap, I know your religion, it does not teach you to kill a single soul, and
you are even forbidden to commit suicide.  I have read that myself.  Shame on
you to attempt to pass the buck to your religion, and I am not buying. You
committed the crime, you disturbed the peace, and you are going to pay for
it.

Terrorism and Stupidity.

Comments Off on Terrorism and Stupidity.
If a thief breaks into your home … would you ask him his
religion? If he says, he belongs to your faith; would you let him get
away?
When a terrorist attacks and claims he is a Muslim and
following Islam, would you be gullible to buy his excuse, or would you nail his
ass and tell him. “Don’t give me that crap, I know your religion, it does not
teach you to kill a single soul, you did it, and you are going to pay for it.

Blaming the religion is the dumbest thing you can do, because you cannot beat,
kick, hack, shoot, hang, kill or bury a religion, its an intangible thing my
friend!  War on Terrorism is a stupid
thing
.

If our objective is to punish the criminal(s), then blame the bloody individual
whose ass can you nail, and serve justice to the apprehensive public. Restoring
peace and sanity should be our goal and not bombing and creating more chaos and
terror in the name of busting terror.

American Muslim Institution condemns Paris Terror attacks.
Washington, DC, November 13, 2015 – It has been a difficult evening for the entire humanity to watch terrorists barge in places and shoot people randomly. Over a hundred people have become the victims of terror and another hundred are wounded.
While the French authorities have not formally ascribed responsibility for this act of terror to any particular group – it appears to have been committed by Islamist extremists. Regardless of the religious affiliation the perpetrators may claim, we strongly condemn this heinous terrorist crime.

We applaud the French Police for doing their best to cut down on the loss of innocent lives and finally removing the immediate threat to lives. We stand with the people and Government of France as they deal with this tragic event and bring the people behind this terrorist act to account.
Our thoughts and prayers go out for the victims and their surviving relatives. May God give them immense patience to cope with this tragedy.
As Muslims, we are deeply offended and condemn this act of terrorism against innocent people; they have violated every societal norm as well as the rules laid by the very faith they claim to belong. This is not the act of a Muslim, but of rogues who claim to follow the faith. Quran 5:32 say, “If anyone slays a person, it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people.”
We have to tackle this issue head on, and cut the roots of extremism, while we are doing that, prayers and a candle vigil gives us some coherence. The children need to be with us to reassure them that God is a higher power and it gives hope and relief to all of us.
Lighting a candle is telling ourselves that we have taken the first smallest step that we can actually take, and hope and pray to find larger solutions.

Please light a candle wherever you  are to show our support to the people of France.

CNN: A Muslim lobby as a counterattack to Fear Inc.

Note: This is one of my 30 Blogs, this particular blog contains only my writings or writings about me. Engy Fouda has quoted me in this write up.

A Muslim lobby as a counterattack to Fear Inc.

Recommended to visit CNN site, for colorful graphics on the subject matter.

By Engy Fouda (@engyfoda)

According to a recent report and investigation by the Center for American Progress (CAP), Fear Inc. is a $57 million fund network acting with the goal of spreading Islamophobia and hatred against Muslim minorities. It makes money out of what CAP describes as a “hate” business. A number of American Muslim organizations formed a coalition to launch what they described as a Muslim lobby to counter the increasing influence of Islamophobia.
The network funds misinformation from the so-called experts, who exploit a larger network of politicians, media outlets and organizations. “The name Fear Inc. is an analogy [to suggest] that a relative small group of people are pushing [towards] these ideas. They are similar to a corporation because they are making large amounts of money [by] spreading hateful messages,” said Ken Gude, senior fellow with the national security team at CAP and a member of the crew who developed Fear Inc. reports.
A coalition of leading national and local American Muslim organizations coalesced to form a Muslim lobby, also known as The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO). USCMO hosted the first National Muslim Advocacy Day in Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. on April 13, 2015. However, still at its inception, the Muslim lobby faces significant challenges in reaching media and influencing legislation.
Media
One of the main goals of the Muslim lobby is to pushback against the daily stereotyping of Muslims in the media. Moustafa Elhusseiny, broadcaster in Al Jazeera network, expressed his frustration with prevalent stereotypes of Muslims and Arabs saying: “Americans who do not have Muslims in their social circles, carry the stereotype of the Muslim as a terrorist and an Arab as a potential threat. Some people cringe when they hear my name!”
The Fear Inc. and Islamophobia can be demonstrated by the polls resuts -shown in the pictures above- that were conducted in September 29, 2015 by the Public Policy Polling in North Carolina.
Gude added that the current Muslim lobby is doing well, but it is not enough. There is a need of more organizations to spread out. Anyone who is counterattacking Islamophobia should focus on having more communication with the media and the reporters covering the presidential campaigns. For example, on Trump’s campaign, the media focused most on “Obama is Muslim” as a smear. It is a smear but the response should not have been directed to that only. The response should have been to push back on the whole notion.  The media should get educated on how to talk about such issues.

As a reaction to Ben Carson’s Islamophobic attacks during his presidential campaign, Mike Ghouse co-founded the American Muslim Institution. “Bigoted people might not change their minds but when we talk in media on a daily basis, stand out and respond. This push back will make them hesitate to say any false statement again. After two or three years, they will not do it”, said Ghouse.
Education and Social diffusion

The Muslim lobby is faced with several challenges on both the Muslim and non-Muslim fronts. On the one hand, very few American Muslims know about the new coalition. “The Muslim community in the Unites States is self-enclosed. Even the organizations and Sheiks do not show up in the advocacy and human rights events. They neither interact with the American society nor support any persecuted minority groups from Latinos, and Blacks,” Elhusseiny said.
On the other hand, the wider public still harbors significant prejudices against Islam and Muslims. In 2014, the Pew Research Center conducted a survey about positive thinking towards Muslims; Republicans ratings were 33%, and Democrats ratings were 47%.
The FBI crime rate reported on their website stated that Anti-Muslim cases have slightly increased from 2012 to 2014. The Southern Poverty Law Center stated that Islamophobia in the United States goes into overdrive following France attacks. In 2015,  crimes such as Chapel Hill shooting, the discrimination incidents such as Ahmed Mohamed’s arrest in Dallas, and the latest anti-Muslim statements made by the Republican presidential candidates.
“It is highly required to found a new educational organization to train new cadres to represent Muslims. The education can be done through conferences and workshops,” Hesham El-Meligy, 2013 NYC comptroller candidate, co-founder of Muslims for Liberty (M4L), added.
El-Meligy added that M4L is making conferences to correct people’s misinformation about Islam through the American Constitution. The audience is from the Tea Party. M4L is arranging a conference to counter Carson’s false claims with three of his campaign managers.
El-Meligy and Elhusseiny both emphasized that Muslims should be keener to vote. Muslims’ population should show up in: the voting base, the city council and the senate candidates.
Legislation
Gude declared that, from the legislative perspective, most of the Muslim organizations are playing defense. None tried to issue a law specific to Muslims, as this is not the target. It should be for all religions not only Muslims. The organizations are mainly concerned to stop the NYPD surveillance programs and the anti-Sharia bill.
Mapping the anti-Sharia bill shown in the pictures above.
USCMO announced on their website that the domestic priorities of the American Muslim community, includes: “Calling on Congress to urge the U.S. Department of Justice to amend its racial profiling guidance for federal law enforcement by removing any existing loopholes that continue to permit profiling in the name of national security, domestic surveillance and policing the border. Many of these programs have disproportionately targeted Latinos, Muslims and other minorities, and raise serious due process concerns.”
Gude declared that stigmatization and training of law enforcement to profile Muslims and monitor every mosque as a counter-terrorism strategy had negative consequences and lead to many false alarms. Moreover, he said that there should be no aligning based on practicing any religion, the society should stand out against Anti-Muslim, Anti-Jew, Anti-Christian, and Anti-Atheist.
Nevertheless, Ghouse added, “Muslims are safe in the United States, it is better than any other country in the world. It is a good country, it supports free speech and I am blessed to be here.”
Gude concluded that here is no big Fear Inc. report yet, but they intend to monitor and comment on the direction of the media, shed some light on respectful Muslims to recognize them and push back Islamophobia during the presidential campaign. Probably they will produce shorter videos to combat the negative Muslims’ stereotyping.

Rabbi Jonathan Sachs Hugs Mike Ghouse

Comments Off on Rabbi Jonathan Sachs Hugs Mike Ghouse
Hugs with Rabbi Jonathan Sachs
Washington, DC, November 12, 2015– Emeritus Chief Rabbi of UK delivered a talk upon the release of his book, “Not in God’s name, confronting religious violence” at the Brookings Institution.   I’ll just highlight a few key points as the full conversation will be available at Bookings archives soon.

A meaningful Hug with the Rabbi

In the Q&A segment, I responded to Rabbi’s typical question, where are the moderate Muslims and which he answered it himself; there is none.
I spoke up, Rabbi, I’ve some good news for you, there are 6 million moderate Muslims here in America, and I’m one of them. You came to the right place, welcome to America. May you be soaked in peace and drenched in peace, shalom.
Let’s work together in creating cohesive societies rather than living in fear of each other? I’m here to answer any question about Islam and Muslims any one has.
The Rabbi welcomed my offer and wanted to give me a hug, and I said, I’ll walk up-to you (I was in the very back of the room), but we decided to hug after the event.
I asked him, “Rabbi, since you correctly traced radicalism among Muslims to the year 1979, compounded by the fatwa on Rushdie, the first ever fatwa with universal application, I have to ask you this. Do you think all this mess with Iran could have been avoided, if we (the Americans) had asked Shah of Iran to step down in 1979, signaling to the people of Iran that we are with them and not their oppressor? Had that happened, the Iranians would not have become our enemies, right?

Indeed much of the mess was started with the Iranian revolution. He acknowledged the question and said we have to think about it. He did not have much to answer other than saying that he wants to look forward and not backwards.
I did not get to ask few more questions like; how reliable is the survey he quoted? That 83% of Palestinians want Israel wiped out? Was the same question asked of Israelis?
He said Israel is more isolated than ever before, anti-Semitism is on rise… I wanted to ask if there was any reflection on his part to see what Israeli policies have contributed towards such isolation. He also said that a majority of Muslims support suicide bombing which I disagree, he is given cooked up figures to justify Islamophobia. I am a Muslim in touch with thousands of Muslims around the world, and it is rare for any Muslim to support suicide bombing. The Quran forbids killing oneself or killing others, the loosy goosy ones do it because they are nuts. I don’t buy their piss poor excuses and give them a break. I will say to them you SOB, you are the one who killed and I am going nail your tail for that.

There is a lot of research on the topic including my observations atwww.IsraelPalestineDialogue.com

Well, the Q&A Session ended, and I started walking to the front. Amazing thing happened; I hope there is a video of it. As I walked, the people started opening up for me to walk thru – like Moses did when the Nile was split, and the conversation was passed on from the back to the front…. … Going for a hug? Rabbi’s hugger is going…. you remember the movie crocodile Dundee? You may recall how Kathleen Turner’s dialogues were passed on from group to group until it reached Dundee all the way to the train in the Subway?  Hell, yes, I enjoyed it.

Well, the Rabbi was ready for me for the hug! And we hugged each other and promised to work on mitigating Islamophobia, Anti-Semitism, Misogyny, racism, Xenophobia and homophobia – all evils of humanity that break the society apart.  Yes, we have a lot of work to do, and do, we will.

We exchanged cards, I was representing American Muslim Institution and he was representing the office of Emeritus Chief Raabi.

After that, I had some heart to heart conversation with a few Jewish friends, including meeting Mati Engel, director of National Initiatives of the Embassy of Israel, whom I will contact in the next few weeks.

An Orthodox Jewish Lady had good questions about the two solutions; my response was security for Israel hinges on justice for the Palestinians and vice versa. One will not happen without the other.

Another person asked me a million dollar question – Why can’t the Arab Lands absorb the Palestinians?  My response was instant – why should they? Don’t the Jewish people longed for a home? Shouldn’t the Palestinians long for their home? Home land is like a mother, people are emotionally bonded to her, you cannot extricate one from the other.   Besides, if Arab or anyone out there absorbs the forcibly evicted people from their homes, you will be legitimizing such evictions, as a civilized family of nations, we cannot do it. I am not in favor of it.

Palestinians and the Israelis can live on that land together; we have to build mechanisms for that – The Israeli and Palestinians have to see each others sufferings and empathise their apprehensions, as humans, they have to give full dignity to each other. It can be done and I hope to get to that some day. Indeed, the current Israeli President, Mr. Reuven Rivlin believes and supports the idea of Israel Palestine Confederation of which I am a Board Member.

Veterans Day and Muslim Americans

Comments Off on Veterans Day and Muslim Americans

I am new to DC and have to find where I can join the Veteran’s
day.

Muslim Americans take pride in their patriotism and participate in Veterans Day parades and observe Memorial day, and participate in veterans day activities.

I have been a part of it for many
years, “While living in Dallas for more than three decades, he became a fixture
at Veteran’s-Day ceremonies and July 4th parades.  He has spoken at
innumerable luncheons for homeless veterans and visits with veterans at VA
hospitals.  Dr. Ghouse drives around the Veterans’ cemeteries on Memorial
Day and offers prayers for all those who have defended our freedom.  He
will fight and defend the freedom of America any time and all the times. “

I appreciate our veterans for defending our freedoms, and it is our duty to honor them every which way we can

4th Republican Presidential Debate Tonite -11.10.15

Comments Off on 4th Republican Presidential Debate Tonite -11.10.15
They build expensive glamorous sets, don’t they! It’s like the wedding dress; the woman spends big time money to wear that dress just for a few hours!

It will be held in Milwaukee, WI, not the wedding, but the debate. No single candidate has emerged as the leader from the earlier debates, and I don’t see an improvement this time either.
The mistake media has made is to put everyone on the stage, 10 of them; last time Trump got a total of 9 Minutes in the 2 hours debate, others got 8 minutes or less. Instead, if they choose the top 3, each one will get at least 20-35 minutes to tell us who they are.
If the candidates have not made it to the top 3 this far out in to the campaign, they should not hog the time from the legitimate others.
In my view the top 3 should be: Trump, Carson and Rubio. All others have to go back and earn their spot, and may be if they can crawl back up with the numbers, they could be included in the 4th round of debates.
Carson will not make it in the end; he lives under a halo or something and continues to cook up unverifiable stories about his youth. Trump is good on shutting others up in a hurry, but do we need that kind of President who would not listen to any one? Personally, I would have preferred another brash guy, but at least he makes sense; Chris Christie. I am not sure about Rubio; he is dilly dallying on issues.
I think Trump would be the nominee competing with Hillary on the other side. What do you think?

Happy Diwali

      Comments Off on Happy Diwali

Diwali is the Indian festival of lights, and light symbolizes hope and positive energy, it indicates the victory of good over evil; a new beginning; seeing the light at the end of tunnel and light is also a symbol of knowledge as it is an internationally used.

People decorate their homes with lights and Rangoli (colorful paintings on floor). Their surroundings filled with colorful light to enliven the day, to mark the dawn of a new era in one’s life.

Although Diwali is a Hindu tradition, people of all faiths in India participate in celebrations – Hindus, Jains, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and others.

My childhood is filled with good memories of Diwali; the sparklers, the food and everything joyous you can imagine.

Congratulations to the people of Bihar, you’ve shown the way to India.

Comments Off on Congratulations to the people of Bihar, you’ve shown the way to India.
Mike Ghouse

Congratulations to the Grand Alliance, a coalition of the centrist parties banded together to save India from being taken over by the right leaning National Democratic Alliance led by the BJP. The Bihar assembly elections were fought in 243 constituencies, and winning coalition needed to secure at least 122 seats to form the government.
Congratulations to the Grand alliance, they are in the lead as of this minute, 12:10 Indian Time;

BJP + ( BJP, LJP, HAM, RLSP) – 63
JD(U)+ (JD(U), RJD, INC) – 158
Others (SP, JAP, AIMIM) -10

Democracy has won, and fascism is going to be gone.

What goes up must come down; it is the law of nature.  Whenever an individual, a community, party or a nation leans towards usurping the freedoms of people, it soon will come to an end.

Freedom is the most precious thing in every one’s life; it is so precious that it is worth fighting for. Indeed, that is the only thing I will fight for.

I am not a supporter of either BJP or Congress or its new avatar Grand Alliance, but an independent who wants the best party in India to win.

BJP lost because of their arrogance and they have a big lesson to learn – drop the Ahankar, shelve the arrogance and treat every Indian as an Indian.  It is not Modi, but Modi’s evil silence that got them into trouble. The nation was burning, the freedoms were usurped, murders, rapes and vandalism were committed by Modi’s party, and he remained silent, as if that will bring him the ultimate – subjugation of the Indians who did disagree with his policies.

The Alliance had lost the 2014 elections, not because of Modi, but because of their ineptness and ineffective governance, despite having a better economic record than the U. S., and U.K. Modi swept in when they were unable to effectively counter him.

The essence of democracy is dissent, and the signs of fascism are conformity with complete control of the systems by an individual or a few individuals, and it is achieved by taking away your right to speak, read, write, eat, drink, wear and believe whatever your rights that are guaranteed in constitution.

The campaign was embarrassing, the biggest chumcha of Modi, who keeps Modi sheltered from News and what’s happening around him, and Modi himself was calling on the people of Bihar to be divisive.  Indians are sick and tired of that rhetoric, for once they wanted to hear, we are all Indians and no one is less or better Indian than the others. That sickness transferred into people punishing.

A majority of Indians are indeed tolerant and respectful of fellow Indians; it is the men and women in the saffron brigade that are intolerant.  The intolerance that is growing, if not checked, will enflame India and end up Kuch ka vikaas baqi sab ka satyanas.

We thank the people of Bihar for doing the right thing.

We want India to be a safe place for every Indian, yes, every Indian, including you, Modi, Hindus, Dalits, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Baha’is, Jews and every Indian with no exception. Would you join us?
