Peace hinges on justice to the Palestinians and security to the Israelis. A durable peace comes when neither is compromised.
Our foreign policy and the policy of Arab nations is the real villain in the conflict. Instead of egging each party to the conflict and causing them to dig in their bloody heels, we need to tell them to stop the non-sense and get to the table.
We, the Americans, and them the Arabs must withdraw all the support to both nations, until they sit down and show the progress. No support without results. We have caused the conflict to prolong, and we bear the responsibility to find solutions.
The bullshit theory of supporting the allies has ruined both people, we are screwing Israelis, instead of finding sustainable security for them,  we are causing them to prolong the conflict, the Arab nations are doing the same.  We can be heroes, by tying our support to progress. If Israel or Palestine does not show their ability to dialogue, we have a right to demand them to sit down and find solutions, for their own good.

I hope Obama understands this, and takes the necessary action. Everyone wants peace but we don’t do the things that take us there. 

It is time to drop all the previous failed policies and go with a bold new idea. “If you two don’t show us the progress within 30 days, we are not going to support you.” We need to get the Arabs and on our side and they will do it, if the outcome is good for Palestine and Israel with no gain for us.We need to be just and honest. The Jewish people want sincerity as much as the Palestinians, they don’t need duplicity.

Please do not judge any one without the full picture, and it is atwww.IsraelPalestineDialouge.com. If you can hold out blaming either side, then you are a true peace maker and you will find sustainable solutions. We had enough for 64 years and it is time to bring goodness to both.

Veterans Homeless Luncheon Blessings

The Homeless Center for the Veterans held a luncheon in Dallas, and I was
pleased to deliver the Islamic and Pluralistic benediction at the event. The
Jewish Benediction was delivered by WWII Veteran Harry Kabler and Christian
Benediction by Rachel Roberts.

The Pluralism Prayers covers most of the
faiths including Atheists wishes. By the way, no matter where I get invited, I
do make a point to represent as many religions as I can, at least ten in any
given time.

The annual event was Organized by Teresa House-Hatfield, Director of the Center in Dallas, and the food was sponsored by the 256 Jewish Battalion.

First of all I am thankful to our creator for blessing us with life,  and secondly, I appreciate you
and the men and women in uniforms for defending our freedom and guarding our
safety. I am pleased to acknowledge your service to the nation, and I
appreciate the sacrifices you have made to keep us guarded.

I was at the
Veterans Day parade in Down Town Dallas the other day,  and it was good to see the public support.

Now, I am pleased to share the Universal prayer, also known as the Pluralism prayers.

Dear creator, please accept our gratitude in every name

enriching our nation, represented by different races, nationalities,
ethnicities, orientations, languages, cultures, ideals and
religions, we are your own country, a cosmic representation of your universe.

Dear causer of the Universe, in your name we want to create a
cohesive and peaceful America with care, kindness and dignity to every one of
the 312 million of us as well as 7 billion of us in the world.

Dear God,
guide us to talk, act and believe that we are one humanity and one nation under
you.

Dear God, as we undertake the mission of building cohesive
societies, where no one has to live in apprehension of the other, we are

Diwali is the Indian festival of lights, and light symbolizes hope and positive energy, it indicates the victory of good over evil; a new beginning; seeing the light at the end of tunnel and light is also a symbol of knowledge as it is an internationally used.

People decorate their homes with lights and Rangoli (colorful paintings on floor). Their surroundings filled with colorful light to enliven the day, to mark the dawn of a new era in one’s life.

Although Diwali is a Hindu tradition, people of all faiths in India participate in celebrations – Hindus, Jains, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and others.

My childhood is filled with good memories of Diwali; the sparklers, the food and everything joyous you can imagine.

Happy Diwali to you my friends, may this Diwali bring happiness, serenity and peace to you. Amen!

Statement by the President on the occasion of Diwali:

Today, here at home and across the globe, Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists will celebrate the holiday of Diwali -– the festival of lights. Diwali is a time for gathering with family and friends, often marked with good food and dancing. It is also a time for prayer and reflection about those less fortunate. It is a testament to the compassion of these communities that so many of them have helped those that have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy.

Many who observe this holiday will light the Diya, or lamp, which symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance. As that lamp is lit, we should all recommit ourselves to bring light to any place still facing darkness. Earlier this year, we were reminded of the evil that exists in the world when a gunman walked into the Sikh gurdwara in Oak Creek, Wisconsin and opened fire. In the wake of that horrible tragedy, we saw the resilience of a community that drew strength from their faith and a sense of solidarity with their neighbors, Sikh and non-Sikh alike. We also saw compassion and love, in the heroic actions of the first responders and the outpouring of support from people across the country. Out of a day of sadness, we were reminded that the beauty of America remains our diversity, and our right to religious freedom.

To those celebrating Diwali, I wish you, your families and loved ones Happy Diwali and Saal Mubarak.

that, “my religion is the only true religion,” by numerous religious
leaders. Of course it would be a truthful statement, if they consider adding,
“…to me, as others are true to others.”

Texas Faith: What did the 2012 election results mean for people of faith?

Before we move away from the
election, I would like to ask you another question stemming from last week’s
results:
What do the outcomes at the
ballot box mean for people of faith?
That question may sound broad,
but look at some of the issues:
Not only did we have a president
reelected with an agenda of middle-class economics, but we had states both
ratifying and defeating gay marriage amendments and approving and disapproving
the use of marijuana. We also had two Senate races determined in part by the
way candidates talked about God and rape.
What’s more, we had a Mormon
heading a ticket for the first time. We had one party in the unusual position
of not having a Protestant running for president or vice president. And we had
minority voters who once had been on the fringe of society sharply shaping the
outcome of a presidential election. 
Mercifully, we had little
religious skirmishing during the general election. But there were plenty of
religious-themed issues in play.

This election is an endorsement

The November ballot has produced
two clear outcomes: A loss of control and start of Armageddon countdown for
conservatives. And the beginning of freedom enshrined in our constitution for
the moderate majority.
The idea of end days is common
among Christian and Muslim fundamentalists, but no stranger to other traditions
either.
Abortion is a major issue, and
it is appalling to many conservatives that we are going against God and
listening to Satan. Seven candidates lost election on this count. We may
disagree with them, but that is their belief and we have to honor that, as long
as it is not imposed on others. 
Same-sex marriage continues to
be a difficult issue and every conservative has his own understanding of Sodom
and Gomorrah at the tip of their tongue. And a few of them have blamed Katrina,
Haiti and other disasters as God’s punishment.
The moderate majority sees this
as reaffirmation of our Founding Fathers dream: “ We hold these truths to be
self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their
Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and
the pursuit of Happiness.”
As a pluralist, I don’t see it
as liberals ganging up on conservatives, but rather seeking their God-given
freedom to live in pursuit of their happiness, without imposing it on those who
believe otherwise.
Even God did not impose his will
on Adam, he gave him the choice to eat the forbidden fruit or not, and when the
choice was made, God did not slap Adam or Eve for making the wrong choice.
Thank God for that, I would not have wanted to miss experiencing the joy of
living on the earth. 
My religious beliefs are for me
to practice and not impose on others. Each one of us has to live by our own
moral compass. 
This vision was expressed by
President Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address: “This nation, under God, shall
have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people,
for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Did Lincoln ever mean
government of clergy for the people?

Veterans Day Parade in Dallas

I
am thankful to our veterans, and the men and women in uniform, who risk their
lives in defending our freedom and guarding our safety. I have always made a
point to salute them, and certainly appreciate the Memorial Day.  I have made trips to the DFW Airport to welcome the returning soldiers as well.  

I am honored to be related to General
Robert E Lee through my Son and Daughter, he is their great,
great, great uncle through their mother and I have stopped at his statute in DC
to pay my tribute to his heroic role in the civil war.  


It was a joy to see this
young man Syed Ghalib with his wife Ashreen Ghalib in the parade (top picture). Ghalib has served in the US Airforce in the
mid to late nineties, indeed, he was one of the first Desi Kids (People from south Asia
comprising India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka) in the Dallas Fort
Worth Metroplex to have served, I was proud of him then, and am proud of him now watching him march in the parade.
At that time, I was a publisher of Asian News, a weekly magazine in Dallas and
wrote about Ghalib on the front page. He is here again on my facebook and my blog, he is the headline picture in
the parade for me, and the Immigrants from South Asia.  I dedicate this note to all the veterans and Ghalib.

In the first fourteen years in Dallas, I pretty much stayed to myself, my family and business and did not get out and meet any Desi on a social basis. After 14 years of Vanvas (culturally, the number 14
signifies Vanvas;  Ram, the Hindu King in epic Ramayana was exiled to forest for 14 years) in the United States, I met Syed Talib, Ghalib’s father, one of the first few Desi’s I met. He invited me to celebrate Ramadan with his family, and finally, I got to eat my favorite Seviyaan (angel
hair noodles) after nearly 14 years.  So Ghalib and his family remain dear to me, even though I don’t get to see them in years. 

The
previous write up was dedicated to three of my friends and my brother in law
Noor Mohamed; an India Army Veteran.  Colonel
Yogeshwar Dayal and I have learned to respect each others’ views on the face
book for over two years; he has served the Indian Army. Colonel Sher Suleman
was in Dallas several years ago and is a participant in one of my forums and he
simply floors me with this wisdom on issues,  and he has served the Pakistani
Army. Colonel Ken Scarborough has served the US Army, he and I have worked together
some 15 years ago at my Company, and now we are friends on facebook and have
learned to be respectful of each other’s opinions, both of us are Republicans
but he is on the conservative side and I am on the moderate. We write
things that are not palatable to each other, but our friendship does not allow
the politics become a barrier, it is a good thing. Their comments are

I
appreciate the veterans all around the world, even if they are enemies of my
nation, they are really not our enemies, they are simply serving and doing what
is asked of them. We have to admire them for fulfilling their duty. The wars
are waged by politicians and not the soldiers, and as a part of civilization we
need to put a leash on our politicians, but must continue to honor our
veterans. It is not easy to be out on the field, away from their loved ones, and
having their back for the fellow soldiers.

She will be the first woman president of America, completing the cycle of what America is all about, an America for every American. Ultimately, we set the standards for the world, where every human, regardless of religion, race, gender, ethnicity, minority or majority can aspire and accomplish the dream of serving his or her nation.

That is if Hilary runs.

Our Founding Fathers laid the ground work for such a society, “ We hold
these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are
endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Martin Luther King Jr. expressed that in his speech, “ I have a dream that my four little children
will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of
their skin, but by the content of their character.”

Chief Seattle, a Native American said this perfectly, “All things are connected. Whatever befalls
the earth befalls the sons of the earth. Man did not weave the web of life; he
is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the webs, he does it to
himself.”

My own belief is in a Cohesive America, where no American has to live in apprehension, discomfort or fear of the other. We are a free people and our governance is about safeguarding that freedom. If we can learn to respect the otherness of other, and accept the God given uniqueness of each one of us, then conflicts fade and solutions emerge.

Republican Party has to do a whole lot of searching in their hearts, if they truly believe in the inclusive Jesus, as they claim, they need to match their act with their talk. Jesus is one of my mentor pluralists. At this time, I am working on getting my book out, and by the end of January, I will have custom designed a course to develop inclusive attitudes among fellow Republicans.

The stability of our government is due to the built in checks and balances, and it is in the interest of Americans that we strengthen the two parties. Its been a long time that Republican Party has won popular vote and it is time to change that dynamics.

It will be hard to beat Hilary Clinton, but if we become inclusive in our approach, shed the bias towards “the other” Americans, we have got a good shot.

As a party we need to ask the right-wingers of our party to take the vacation for a year and come back after elections – The following guys and girls need to mind their own business; Rick Santorum, Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Guilliani, Tim Pawlenty, Paul Ryan, … they are a liability to the party. Keep Karl Rove Madoff out from sucking up the funds.

Thanksgiving Planning

Thanksgiving is the ultimate balancing act in every one’s life. When you receive goodness from others, you are indebted to them, and until you say thanks, you feel a sense of imbalance, incompleteness, and a sense of missing something … and it adds to your inexplicable discomfort. There is an unfinished transaction out there, and at times it is difficult to figure. But there is a solution, an easy but a powerful one. Just say thanks, a simple thank you will do a lot of good to us, and our relationships. Most people say thanks without fail, those who miss out on a few things, we have a an opportunity to reflect on this Thanksgiving day.

If you tie the loose ends, there is joy for you.
You have plenty of time to do it, but do it. 

If you don’t believe in God, that is fine, it is still a release when you say thanks to the benefit giver. But if you believe in God, the formless, being or non-being, one or many, male, female or gender-less  your faith invariably prescribes you to say thanks to God in the form of prayers or supplications… even for the only gift you may have; able to breath.
 
Despite
the shortcomings, please make a list of all the people you want to thank, even for
the littlest thing they have done for you… say thanks, call them or mail them a
card. It is very uplifting thing to do. 
You know  the best time to make that list? Its your lunch hour… wherever  whichever restaurant you want to go including the peaceful McDonalds, Wendys or your favorite… my favorite place is the library, that is my heaven! Be with yourselves to make that list… there
is joy for you.


Once the list starts building, watch the good within you surfacing and making you happy. 
I will repeat my story of a man who had no limbs, no legs, just a torso, he was grateful that he could see the blue skies, smell the dirt when it rains, which is my favorite too,  enjoy the aroma of the food as he went door to door asking for food or alms.. its a real humbling story that I was a part of, and Appaiah stunned me when he was so full of thanks for that life… I want to thank Tehran Times, the Iranian News paper who had published that piece a few years ago… that was joyful to me! They just pulled it out of my blog www.TheGhouseDiary.com. God willing I will get that story published in Huffington Post for thanksgiving, with additional info on my blog.

Interfaith Dialog Dinner and Awards Ceremony

Congratulations to Hon. Judge Patty Larson for the life Time Achievement award, and Commissioner Maureen Dickey for the community service Award. The awards were bestowed at the 10th Annual friendship and
awards dinner at Renaissance hotel, organized by the Institute of Interfaith Dialog.

Kamil
Celik, president of the organization shared the genesis of the institute of
interfaith dialogue. He said he was a teen when he participated in an
interfaith dinner organized by the Turkish Islamic Scholar Fethullah Gulen. The
attendees were the Chief Rabbi of the Turkish Jewish community, heads of
Catholic, Greek Orthodox and other religious groups. He was inspired by the
event and has become the torch bearer in Texas carrying the tradition for the
10th year. The Gulen movement has attracted a large number of
supporters in Turkey and across the globe for his teachings of common good that
all faiths can deliver together. He injected good humor in his talk, and I
really liked the lightness of his speech. 

Dr.
Mike Miles, superintendent of Dallas Independent School District was the key
note speaker, and shared how each one of us can function as multiple spokes in a wheel,
learning and functioning different aspect of knowledge. He has an impressive
resume and the good news is he is considering cross cultural education which
will help the kids as they would live in a multi-cultural societies; the real America. He is open
to teaching cultural pluralism in schools.  We need to pull 10 years worth of pictures and videos of the Annual
Thanksgiving Celebrations, 7 years of Unity
Day
events and 6 years of reflections on Holocaust and Genocides as examples of cultural and religious pluralism.

Miles talked about the entrepreneurial spirit to be included in the curriculum
and there is a model program at Richardson School District’s on the topic. They do it for children across the school district and
kids come out understanding the concepts of how businesses are run.

Congratulations to Commissioner Maureen Dickey for the community service Award
and the life Time Achievement award to Hon. Judge Patty Larson.

Judge Larson is an amazing person and I see her from time to time. I was a neighborhood
commissioner at the City of Carrollton a few years ago and have known her for nearly
a decade. I am pleased that she is recognized for her life time service to the community.
She talked about mock courts with school going children as a part of education.
She also performs interfaith weddings as a service to the community.

At my table, besides Isabel,  we
had Turkish and Iranian American scholars and students. Dr. Mahmoud Sadri
teaches interfaith, and Ali is working on his PhD on Corruption and its effects
on economy, Jobin is going to Medical School and Bilal heads the Dallas Islamic
Center, Dr. Korca and his wife were equally interested in interfaith dialogue.
I was amazed; rather continue to be amazed that even Muslims don’t put their
finger on the first interfaith dialoguer in the world. I have tested this in
several groups and failed. I have to write more and speak more about it. Then
we had a nice conversation about Prophet Muhammad the pluralist,  and talked
about Food Pluralism as the food was being served.
Nature
is simply amazing, how deficiency in one sensory organ is compensated by
powerful sense in the other. Rhanda Hasley does not have the sight and she
simply goes by the voice, and it is powerful. She heard me ask a question, a
very short one to Dr. Miles if the School district has plans to teach Cultural
Pluralism. She knew,  it was me, she had
heard my two year long Radio program “Wisdom of Religion, all the beautiful
religions” almost 9 years ago. She made a point to find and talk with me. I was
completely floored. Then she wanted to stay in touch and I paused before
offering her my business card, she said, just tell me the name of the site… I
was simply admiring her ability to register and remember the name. God, I wish
I had that ability.

Closing remarks were delivered by a Rabbi, Pastor and and an Imam.

I
am pleased to have attended this event, as it is my cup of tea. Many including
Dr. Jacqueline Romano indicated an interest in learning about Pluralism. Here is my CV and the tentative Curriculum for teaching Pluralism. Pluralism in its
simplest form is respecting the otherness of others and accepting the genetic
uniqueness (God Given) of each one of us.

is mother of most of the conflicts in the world, and I am committed to finding
solutions and have written over 50 pieces on the topic, and many have
been published, that is a lot of time! The blog www.IsraelPalestineDialouge.com
has got most of the stuff… there is very little in it that does not

Obama can bring

  1. The first step is to call in
    Fatah, Hamas* and Netanyahu to the Rose Garden with no conditions.
  2. Have each one place all his
    cards on the table, “What is that you want?”
  3. Obama** (and his team, I hope
    I am on that team) to offer a proposal based on Security for Israel and Justice
    to the Palestinians.
  4. Ask the parties to work
    towards that goal and come up with a viable proposal.
  5. Call in the Arab Nations and
    Jewry around the world to ponder over this.
  6. Develop a proposal with
    consensus, and offer to the publics in both nations, almost as
    referendum.
  7. Call in Arab Nations to
    recognize Israel, which means ending hostilities, let the publics in those
    nations be a part of the campaign, after all monarchs and dictators come and go,
    the deal should be between the peoples of Arab Nations and Israel – the heads
    are merely there to carry out the will of the people. No treaty should
    dependent on individuals.
  8. Iran’s original beef was the
    Palestinian issue, if we move towards solutions, Iran will be easy to work with,
    they may feel that they issue is addressed.
  9. The mother of most problems in
    the world is this conflict. We blame religion, terrorism and other things in
    vain instead of focussing on the issue.
* The right wing
Christians, Jews and Muslims will scream bloody murder, Obama needs to win them
as well, indeed, that should be the first step, and they need to be our allies
in bringing an end to this endless conflict. The other approaches have not
worked before and we need them to give this approach a
chance.

Obama is the second President after Carter, who is genuine in finding a
solution, unaffected by the pressures from the right. Obama has the (newly
acquired) balls to tell the parties like it is. No one in the past had that,
neither were they neutral. In the past the Arab Nations and we (Americans) have
screwed the process by siding with each side and strengthening their stance,
rather than getting them to sit and talk. We have that right, we have nothing to
gain, but they do. Peace dividends are innumerable.

When God created Animals, he
gave them horns and animal teeth to bloody each other to resolve conflicts. Did
he do that with humans? No, instead he gave us a tongue to dialogue and find
solutions. Do we need to use it? Heck yes!
