Quran Mistranslations and solutions

Beware of Mis-translations of Quran | World Muslim Congress
How wrong was I to believe that almost all Muslims were aware of the mis-translations of Quran. It came as a big surprise to me to know that there are  Muslims  who innocently believe everything they read about Quran is divine without ever questioning it. Please be aware that there are two translations of Quran that are not only wrong, but bad.

Quran is for the entire humanity, but the Hilali Khan/Mohsin Khan duo’s translation has reduced it to the exclusive book of Muslims. If a Jew, Christian or a Hindu were to read it, they have every reason to fear Muslims and the “Muslim God ” who teaches hatred towards them.  All you had to do to acquire the free copy of this book was  to call 1-800 number and they would send a free copy of the Quran, I have no idea how many copies are out there in the hands of innocent people,  we can check the boasting emails or news letters proclaiming how many million copies were distributed.  A lot of damage was done.  The good news is many of the mis-translation are fixed since 2012.

Hilali Khan and Mohsin Khan Duo as great scholars. They mis-translated the Quran around 1924, and as Muslims blessed with the courage to speak, we have to disagree.

Let us not elevate any human’s words to be on par with God – men like Hilali Khan, Mohsin Khan, Tamiya, Kathir, Banna, Qutub, Maududi, Shah Waliullah and other fallible humans have made several mistakes. We should not give their word equivalency to God’s word.

Whatever their intention was, these men have messed up the translations and interpretations of Quran. The brunt of Islamophobia that we are dealing with today was mothered by their work.  Indeed, the Spencers, Gellers, Baghdadis, Bin Ladens and Awalakis believe in that version of Islam.

Full article will be out in a few days and a link will be provided.

A conversation about Muslims and Pakistan at Dr. Mona Kazim Shah’s home

Comments Off on A conversation about Muslims and Pakistan at Dr. Mona Kazim Shah’s home

June 13, 2015, Dallas, Texas

at Dr. Mona Kazim Shah’s home.

With what is going on in Pakistan with
minorities, Mona invited several of her friends to join her for an open
conversation, about 30 gathered and each one shared his or her thoughts about
it. One overwhelming theme was the agony of being misunderstood, and what each
one is doing to change that. It was a motivating gathering of activists, who
are doing something or the other to bring about a change.

Most of the problems in the society stem from
not knowing each other, when we do, things will change. Otherwise, we keep
building myths about each other without ever making an attempt to fall them. We
cannot expect change if we do nothing about it.

What does it take to change the perceptions
about Muslims? Not fight, but be an example and connect and get to know”?
Knowledge leads to understanding and understanding to acceptance (not
agreement) and appreciation with a different point of view.

JULY 4TH.

Such an opportunity exists, and it is here –
July 4th; inviting your non-Muslims friends to celebrate July 4th, it is the
most patriotic thing to do, and it will bind us with fellow Americans. Make an
effort to invite people from different faiths, races, ethnicities and
orientations – to rid of your own biases against others. You’ll be pleased you
did it. An article about it will be released next week with details. It will be

RAMADAN

It is a blessed month, and we need to feel its
blessings in our guts by being honest and sincere with ourselves. The most
important question we have to ask ourselves is – Is Prophet Muhammad really a
mercy to the mankind? If he was, as a follower, am I? Am I kind to everyone?
All Humanity? or just some? Am I loaded with hate for fellow Muslims? How can I
be a better Muslim like the Prophet without prejudice towards fellow humans?
Are we capable of meeting someone from Sunni, Shia, Ahmadiyya or the sub groups
within, and say peace to
them? Do we really mean it when we say Prophet was a mercy to
“mankind” or do we reduce him to the ownership of Muslims? Can we
show it by your actions? If you cannot, then please don’t say anything shallow.
Take a look at this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-ghouse/how-i-connect-with-prophet-muhammad_b_2547782.html

Ramadan is to purify us, it’s here for you. Go
do the Iftaar in a Masjid a day, every Masjid of Shia, Sunni and Ahmadiyya and
within each denomination there are several – you have 29 or 30 days to practice
removing your prejudice, go do it and be free from the conditioning, being free
from prejudices is such a joy, it’s like walking out of home to work with no
worries. A list of Mosques in Dallas is at www.DallasMuslimCenter.org

How each Mosque follows their own unique tradition
is chronicled here with the pictures of Mosques since 2010-http://ramadanexclusive.com/

POWER OF ENGAGEMENT.

I shared my experience with Sean Hannity, which
I have called the power of engagement – change comes by engaging with people
without which there is no chance. It’s like the lottery ticket, you cannot
complain for not winning it, if you have not purchased it. Engagement increased
the chances to a change, disengagement guarantees status-quo.

Muslim Reponse to Pamela Geller and the Bikers in Phoenix – Saudi Gazette

Comments Off on Muslim Reponse to Pamela Geller and the Bikers in Phoenix – Saudi Gazette

Phoenix Bikers controversy over drawing Prophet Muhammad’s cartoons

A GAME is being played all the way from Melbourne, Australia, to sunny Phoenix, Arizona, in the United States and it is called ‘Muslim Baiting.’ How it works is simple. A public announcement is made under the guise of free speech that a revered figure or scripture for Muslims is going to be attacked and ridiculed.  The game is to goad Muslims into a senseless cycle of reactionary violence.

In the past it seems to have succeeded judging from the reactions of Muslims from London to Lahore where flags, property and other objects were destroyed in retaliation against slurs against Islam. But what did such meaningless reactions accomplish? A new determination by some quacks to push Muslim buttons towards more stupid and inconsequential outcomes.

In the Phoenix goad and bait, biker gangs armed with assault rifles announced their intention to hold a ‘draw Muhammad cartoon contest’ outside a mosque. Displaying slogans and placards with words intended to inflame such as “Stop Islam” and “Support Your Local White Boy” the heavily armed bikers wanted to create a mayhem on the back of Muslim reaction. Violent responses in the past against religious slurs had perhaps encouraged them to goad a new group into a battle. Fortunately, the pro and anti Islam groups were well separated by the Phoenix police and no incident except for the expelling of a lot of hot air was reported.

Perhaps Muslim leaders in America are beginning to understand their role in spreading the right message when it comes to Islam baiting and it is reaching the right ears. Mike Ghouse, the President of the America Together Foundation is one such figure that should be credited with ensuring that Muslims should be responsible and not responsive when faced with slurs against their faith.

In a statement widely circulated before the Phoenix event, Mike implored those sympathetic to Islam to be ‘understanding’ rather than revolting. He said, “Let the Bikers draw cartoons of the Prophet (pbuh), look to this as an opportunity to follow the practice of the Prophet (pbuh), he was a mercy to mankind and it is time for Muslims to demonstrate that. What did he do when he was harassed on his way to Taif? He prayed in the tradition of Jesus, forgive them God, for they know not. God’s will was to show a way to build better societies by mitigating the conflicts and nurturing good will and not by aggravating it. Thus he turned the other check as Jesus had taught and prayed for the wellbeing of all.”

Speaking on the eve of the Biker event, Mike stated that “This Friday, I urge Muslims around American Mosques to open up their hearts an minds of understanding, instead of sulking, retrieving to a corner, getting angry or harboring ill-will, I ask them to pray for the welfare of Biker Americans in their Friday sermons across the land and hopefully across the globe. Let them make an effort to build a cohesive America where no American has to live in apprehension or fear of the other. Let’s do our part right and seek God’s help in repairing our relationships.”

“Criticism can fade away or rain on us depending on how we respond to it. Lack of conviction in one’s faith breeds intolerance towards criticism, whereas firmness in faith can lead us to learn from criticism, explore the infinite wisdom and realize the strength of our faith (Imaan); a worthy feeling to have, instead of living in doubt and shooing criticism away.

“We need to handle criticism of Qur’an, Islam and the Prophet (pbuh) with grace, and respond to it gracefully. At least it increases the chances of mitigating the conflict and restoring harmony. The other way around is fighting back, which guarantees further aggravation of the conflict and isolation. Let freedom of speech remain the corner stone of Islam.

“I urge fellow Muslims to be open to all the criticism with confidence, let the doors of communications be open. Islam stands on its own; it does not need our defense. M. Ghouse.”

Islam has indeed stood the test of time against many who marauded against it and spilled blood. But it has not been vanquished. Mike’s message should be taken with great consideration for a greater understanding by people not familiar with this religion of peace.

Peaceful protests at McKinney Police headquarters

Comments Off on Peaceful protests at McKinney Police headquarters
Peaceful protests at McKinney Police headquarters  on Monday,
June 8, 2015 – 6:50 PM – 8:20 PM – this is a developing story.

This will be continually updated until Thursday – hope to receive emails from all the 26 speakers to include their speech and I welcome any pictures any one has taken.

Nearly 150 People had gathered in front of the McKinney Police Headquarters at
2200 Taylor Burl Dr. The event was organized by Olinka Green Defense
committee and was posted on facebook; 955 People RSVPD, with a 150 Maybes and 4200 people were invited.
https://www.facebook.com/events/1401015223561412/1401605123502422/ –

I was there at 5:45 and people started coming, and about 6:30 PM
we had about 100 people, the organizers were apparently in another event, where
they had originally intended to hold, that left me to get organized
and moderate the event.

Someone came with banner, and another one with a hand held public address
system, I started the program 6:50 with our National Anthem followed by
Pluralism prayers that included people of all faiths and no-faiths ( will post
later tomorrow).  Then gave a talk about the need to gather, much of the
talk is drawn from the Petition at Avaz and Press release at: AmericansTogether.org

A total of 26 People spoke to the point and within two to three minutes. I made
sure no one goes home with a feeling that they did not get the chance to speak,
every one who wanted to speak was asked to come up and speak, and they did. I
wish, some one had recorded the powerful statements from the people. we were
represented by people of many faiths, races and ethnicity. We were all in this
together.  However, I have asked every one to send his or her speech notes
in the email to me at MikeGhouse@gmail.com, the represented complete diversity
of expression.

Thanks to the speakers for listening to me to keep it non-political,  and I had to stop two of them from going on over either the Republicans or Democrats, we were gathered there as Americans and the issue is American and we are going to find solutions as Americans.

A few of the speakers were pounding on police force as if all of them were bad,  and I am glad to speak up right after their speech, not to negate them, but to assert the difference. We cannot stereotype any one. Police is good and they are here to protect and give us the sense of security, even though a few of them violate their own ethics.  However, none of us would have been able to speak freely if police were brutal, they are not a different species, they are from among us and we have a few bad apples and we need to treat them.  We need to investigate where the flaw in the system was, were they trained wrongly? If the flaw is in the training we need to tear that apart and rebuild the training manual.

I will compile all parts of my speech, meanwhile I request you to share your pictures and your notes to compile them together and get it all published.  Most of the TV channels were there, and whatever they report, we will share
it here. They have to allocated a few seconds in the 5 or 10 minutes they have available in the news program.

Maryam Siddiqui is the new inspiration of India.

Maryam Siddiqui the
new inspiration for India | TheGhousediary.com
http://nabsites.net/demo/maryam-siddiqui-is-new-inspiration-of/

Reading this news welled up my eyes, what a beautiful news it is for this
Monday. Maryam Siddiqui becomes a role model for generations of children to
come not only in India, but across the world.
What an inspiration she is!

I have added three three YouTube videos – absolutely inspirational! She is the
kind of role model we need for our kids.  The interviews were conducted in Hindi/Urdu
language she and her parents talk about the inclusive language that I grew up with?
Please note, I hope to spend time in understanding Maryam and work on getting it translated into English. She is worth spending the time!

She is blessed to have great parents! Indeed, she inspires me to know that more
and more and more Muslims parents have raised their kids to be pluralistic. I
cannot thank enough to my parents for giving me and my family similar education
– to respect the otherness of others, all of us are God’s creation and respecting
each one amounts to respecting God.  My
Parents never ever said one negative thing about Hindus, Christians, Jains and
others in our town.  Even during communal
riots, my father said, it was between two idiotic individuals that flared up
into communal thing, he never let us believe that religion is the problem, he said problems always start with individuals so do the solutions. He was clear for us not to be prejudiced towards any
one.

I thank my Mom and Dad for that education,
and thank Maryam and her parents for assuring me that, that is how parents
should raise their children. Now, I ask you, if  you were raised with similar values, that is no prejudice towards other people, please share it in one powerful short sentence to be included as your quote in the article I am compiling. We have to encourage what is good and multiply it.

No doubt, there are
parents, who poison their kids,  and mess up the lives of their children with
ill-will and hatred for others. To those men and women who are biased towards the others, please
wake up, and don’t pass that on to your children. Don’t mess
with their future, and don’t make them unfits to live in a pluralistic society.
Very soon, you will find people of different faiths, cultures, ethnicities,
races, nationalities and social backgrounds working, eating, playing, marrying,
and doing things together. Prepare them for it, rather than poison them and make their life difficult, you may have lived with fear and hate, but don’t give them the same…

Bill Gates is the first known human being in the
last 100 years to encourage other wealthy individuals to invest their monies in
human development – education, eradication of diseases and skills to support
themselves.  What was he going to do with
his Billions? Then Warren Buffet and others followed the suit.  It is good to see the fruit of your
contribution while you’re alive, than leaving it for others to decide what to
be done with it. If you got the money, donate it to causes that bring people together for building safer and securer communities than divisive elements that create anxieties for all, and do it while you are alive.

Malala is another first teen to set the example to consider the whole world as
her family, a concept embedded in all religious teachings and now Maryam!  There are many more like them, if you know some one, put them on the pedestal, it is your responsibility to do that.

This is what she
said, “I, however, have the means to lead a reasonable life because the
Almighty has been kind to my parents. But there are many children who are not
as lucky as me. So, I have decided to return the cash award to the state
government so that it can be used for the betterment of children in need,”
she said.
Here is the full
story:

Maryam Siddiqui winner of Gita Champion League returns 11 lakh (1.1 Million) Indian Rupees award to U .P.  Government.

by kracktivist in Human Rights
Drawing inspiration
from Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai for pursuing the cause of education for
all, a 12-year-old Muslim girl Maryam Siddiqui who was on Saturday given Rs 11
lakh by UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for winning the Gita Champions League
has returned the award. She wants the state gov ernment to use the money for the
“betterment of children in need“. Maryam had won the Gita Champions League
contest organised by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon)
in January in which over 3,000 students had participated. Akhilesh felicitated
her on Saturday at an official function in Lucknow, where he gave her the cash
award and a plaque.
In a grand gesture
unusual for a 12-year-old, Maryam also contributed two cheques of Rs 11,000
each to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and said she would like to see the
funds being used for educating orphaned and needy children in the state.
Calling herself an
ambassador of peace, Maryam told TOI she is now on a mission to promote the
cause of education for the poor.“Education is the only route to change their
destiny ,“ she said. “I’m grateful to the UP government for conferring this
honour on me. I, however, have the means to lead a reasonable life because the
Almighty has been kind to my parents. But there are many children who are not
as lucky as me. So, I have decided to return the cash award to the state
government so that it can be used for the betterment of children in need,“ she
said.
Maryam’s father
Asif Siddiqui confirmed that they had submitted an official letter to the Uttar
Pradesh government requesting them to use her cash award for educating
children, instead.

Mayor Brian Loughmiller and council Members

City of McKinney, Texas
Honorable Mayor Loughmiller,
In reference to the mistreatment of fellow Americans by your police force,  We hope you will do the right thing. Indeed, you will have the benefit of doubt until you fix the problem.

The mistreatment of fellow men and women who are Black amounts to slapping God for creating us in so many tribes, communities, races, ethnicities and faiths. If God is not in your equation, that is your choice, you have your freedom, but it will create distrust in the society, which will lead to anarchy and chaos. None of us want that to happen.

Video–
http://photographyisnotacrime.com/2015/06/texas-cop-goes-on-violent-rampage-at-pool-party/

……..
A few in your police force lack sensitivity and as a civil society that is not acceptable, not at all. There was no need to use the foul language to show off his authority, was he trained to stereotype the Blacks, that they will understand foul language? There is discipline and there is an abuse, a police officer is a protector of the safety of our citizens and not an abuser towards those who look different. All of this needs to be addressed and investigated thoroughly.
We have come a long way in learning to respect the otherness of others. Our founding fathers laid it out in our immortal declaration of independence that we were all created equal, indeed we are. That declaration pays the highest tribute to God, that he created all of us with his will. God is a good guy and we need to accept his will for each one of us to be different.
To those men and women who are biased towards the others, please wake up, and don’t live in fear and pass that on to your children. Don’t mess with their future, and don’t make them unfits to live in a pluralistic society. Very soon, you will find people of different faiths, cultures, ethnicities, races, nationalities and social backgrounds working, eating, playing, marrying, and doing things together. Prepare them for it, rather than prison them in your own tiny silos.

We need to prepare ourselves for those eventualities to prevent possible conflicts, and lay a good foundation for nurturing goodwill and effective functioning of the societies. Exclusive communities will become a thing of the past. If you live amidst others, you must also respect the otherness of others, as you expect them to do the same for you.

Let’s be brave and free and learn to live and let live.

Rick Perry embraces Muslims, a gutsy political first

Rick Perry embraces Muslims, a gutsy political first http://centerforamericanpolitics.blogspot.com/

Abstracts from my upcoming article, pending publication

Addison, Texas – June 4, 2015 – It takes guts, a lot of guts for a Presidential candidate to embrace Muslims from the word go!  Perry has got that. Given the unabashed bigotry displayed by a number of Presidential candidates against Muslims, Rick Perry took the bold step in paving the way for inclusionary politics in the GOP.  This is a historic event in the annals of America’s evolution of pluralistic politics. Perry may turn the tide and knock out bigotry in other candidates minds, even if it is in their hearts.

I hope to interview all the presidential candidates to see how pluralistic they are, and how much they really understand about the need to have a strongly woven social fabric for a safe, secure and prosperous America. We cannot have a candidate who is prejudiced towards fellow Americans.

Click on the pictures to see a larger version

What a joy it was to see two Muslims with Perry on the first
day of announcement – Amir and Arman Rupani
A few minutes with Sean Hannity
After the event

Among the array of 2016 candidates, four will pass the initial test; Hilary Clinton, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie and Rick Perry.

I don’t know how many of the Presidential candidates we have to be forgiven for ‘they know not’ about fellow Americans.  In the 2012 run, the following candidates displayed their shameless bigotry towards Muslims and some of them have said they will not hire a Muslim in their administration, and they are;  Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee and Michelle Bachman. Carson, Huckabee, Santorum and Jindal will not even make it through the primaries, they are too biased to lead an America of different faiths, races and ethnicity – there is enough material to nail them, they may be good for a Hospital, Arkansas, Pennsylvania and Louisiana respectively, but not for America.

Sean Hannity was at the announcement for an exclusive interview with candidate Perry, and prior to that he asked me, if I was supporting Perry, I said, not yet, not until I talk to him about what kind of America he envisions, is he committed to a cohesive America?  Sean asked me what I mean by it.   I said it is an America where every American is given equal access to employment, entrepreneurship, and governance in his or her pursuit of happiness, and where no American has to live in apprehension or fear of the other.

What is a cohesive America – please watch this 10 minutes trailer of a documentary coming up – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMXsTo4VYh8

Pamela Geller is not for free speech – donors beware

Freedom of speech is the most enduring, stabilizing, sustainable value of a free society. Ultimately freedom should prevail over everything else. That is about the only thing I would die for and defend.
Pamela Geller does not defend free speech, just as ISIS does not represent Islam, both masquerade to defend but do the opposite.
On September 30, 2014, on Sean Hannity Show, I was completely taken back, when Pamela Geller and Hannity were calling for a ban on Sheikh Rachid al-Ghannouchi’s featured speech at Yale Law School, they should be instead defending it.
Here is the video with Sean Hannity, Pamela Geller and Mike Ghouse
Pamela Geller opposing free speech on Hannity show
There is no doubt, we have to defend free speech, that is the God given right of every human. Indeed, I have defended Pamela Geller’s right to speak when United Kingdom banned her speech in London.
Geller.Ghouse.Hannity.foxnews.09.30.2014I have defended the rights of Pastor Terry Jones to burn copies of the Quran in Florida, I have even opposed the Arab League’s proposal at the United Nations to curb freedom of speech about religious personalities. And, I have defended Sheikh Rachid al-Ghannouchi’s right to free speech at Yale which Pamela Geller opposed. We have even defended her right to speak in Garland, Texas. We have to be consistent or not claim to defend free speech. She was even opposed to building Ground Zero Mosque, a building to pray! So much for freedom of speech.
Poking fun at the religious figures is nothing new. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has been the object of criticism from the very beginning; the people who did not like his mission have made attempts to kill him, neither was Jesus spared.
Bill O’Reilly called her act dumb and stupid, so did Donald Trump and a host of other conservative talk show hosts. Indeed Bill Maher said to applaud the Dallas Muslims for not responding and not even paying attention to Geller’s taunting.
Pamela Geller and her ilk are about Muslim Bashing; at least she is consistent there, but she is not for free speech. I have to think about other instances where she did not defend free speech. Islamophobia is nearly $50 Million industry and is growing by leaps and bounds. If you want to get funding, all you have to do is spew venom against Muslims or Gays and Lesbians, someone will fund you. The days for hatred towards African Americans, Jews and Latinos are about over.
The industry has done a good job in recruiting the services of sour-grape-former-Muslims like Ayan Hirsi Ali, Nonie Dervish, Wafa Sultan, Walid Shoebat and others. A few Right wing Muslims, Hindus and Jews are also eyeing at the pie and the pie is getting bigger.
The free speech is an enduring value and the hallmark of civilizations, and we simply cannot compromise on it, however much a few may abuse it. We believe in free speech and that is the only way societies will grow. As Muslims we seriously appreciate the gains we have had, that far outweigh the tensions given by a handful of miscreants.
A Challenge for the donors.
We don’t need to defeat or embarrass the men and women engaged in the business of pitting one American against the other, but we do have an obligation to make an effort to turn around the divisive rhetoric into a cohesive one.
The question I have for the funders of Pamela Geller or Brigitte Gabrielle is simple. Do you want to fund more division and chaos or bring cohesiveness and security to America?
The question for Muslims donors is similar; do you want to fund for defensive Bill boards across America, big Bus Signs or invest in building bridges between communities for a safe, secure and a prosperous America?
The funders have to determine their priorities, after all it is their money, and should it be for cohesion or division?

BringAmericansTogether-0r-PitThemAgainstEachOther

Contrasting values for the Donors
We are seriously considering holding conferences right after Pamela Geller’s conference. She will be representing American Freedom Defense Initiative, while I will be representing America Together Foundation.
They can tear America down, we will put it together.
Is it possible to make peacemaking lucrative for Pamela Geller, Brigitte Gabrielle and others? If they can invest their energy into peacemaking, they will be good at it, whatever they do; they do it passionately and well.
I wish the funders evaluate what their monies will do and then invest in building a cohesive America that benefits all of us. A safe, secure and cohesive America is good for all of us. We are going to that, it is our commitment.
We are looking for inspiring speakers to help us build a cohesive America where no American has to live in apprehension or fear of a fellow American. We want to feel, believe and build one nation under God with liberty and Justice for all.
The Muslims and Freedom of Speech
Let there be no doubt about it, Muslims are for free speech. When we stand up for free speech, we align with most Americans; this is one thread that binds us with fellow Americans more than any other thread.
Muslimsforfreespeech-WorldMuslimCongress.comWe need to handle criticism of Quran, Islam and the Prophet with grace, and respond it gracefully. At least it increases the chances of mitigating the conflict and restoring harmony. The other way around is fighting back, which guarantees further aggravation of the conflict and isolation. Let freedom of speech remain the corner stone of Islam.
God’s advice in Quran 41:34, “To overcome evil with good is good, and to resist evil by evil is evil. Repel evil with what is better; then you will see that one who was once your enemy has become your dearest friend.”
Islam is not going anywhere; prophet is not going anywhere, and by opening ourselves up to criticism, we will learn a lot more about our faith than we would ever know. We need to move away from intolerance to acceptance of a different point of view without having to agree with it. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) lived through it and Muslims can learn from his examples.
Criticism can fade away or rain on us depending on how we respond to it.
The greatest example of dealing with such criticism was a challenge in questioning the Prophethood itself while signing the Peace Treaty of Hudaibiyah. The Prophet handled it in the most pluralistic way by respecting the otherness of others, and changing his title from ‘Prophet of God’ to ‘Son of Abdullah’. Indeed, we must respond to every criticism of Qur’an, Islam and the Prophet with such a grace.
I urge fellow Muslims to be open to all the criticism with confidence, don’t shut it, and let freedom of speech remain the corner stone of Islam. Islam stands on its own; it does not need our defense, and it is silly to protect God or the Prophet, they are not weaklings or our property to protect, they belong to the whole universe, don’t they?
Next time when someone stages hate speech, and wants to burn Quran, draw Cartoons of the prophet or do something silly, please gather up and pray as Muslims, and pray with fellow Americans of different faith as we did with Pastor Terry Jones in Mulberry, Florida, or simply ignore them as Muslims of Dallas/ Fort Worth did during Pamela Gellers’ Garland exhibit.
If we don’t fall for the bait, they will not throw the hook again.
God bless America

Narendra Modi’s Bubble and the Chumcha Culture

Comments Off on Narendra Modi’s Bubble and the Chumcha Culture
Prime Minister Modi is making all the classic mistakes of a man sitting inside the bubble, oblivious of the chaos outside the thin veil of the bubble. The men who keep him in euphoric status are called “Chumchas” – the “Yes men” of India who will ultimately let their bosses fall from grace.

Their usual line is “Yes sir, your programs are working beautifully, there is no need to worry, everything is perfect, my hoon Na! (I am here to take care of you). Mr. Modi is so self absorbed, that he does not even question the veracity of the reports or may not even see the reports. His eerie silence does not bode well for India.

The Chamchas bring the downfall of the leaders and kingdoms. Way back in 1799 the two chamchas of Tipu Sultan Poornayya and Mir Sadiq were telling him everything is alright, but they weren’t.  Girish Karnad writes in the dreams of Tipu Sultan that Tipu was aware of these men making deals with Lord Cornwallis behind his back, and that he was going to deal with them, alas he had done that.

George W Bush had his own reverend chumcha Cheney, who kept telling him, “Sir, everything is alright” and brought destruction to America and the world. Alas, God had gifted a brain to this dolt.

Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has a much thicker bubble around her, she had no idea what was going on, the chamchas including Siddhartha Shankar Roy  kept saying, “Madam, everything is going good, as you had wanted” and she almost turned India into the dictatorship through her emergency rule, I shudder at the thought of what would have happened to India – it would have spun us off the orbit of democracy. Thanks to the Journalists and the media persons who went to Jail to protect our freedom, and now we have many such heroes amidst us to protect us from Modi going the wrong way.

A powerful leader is the most dangerous person for a democracy, and a powerful media is a blessing to a democracy and guarding the rights of the people.

George Bush was a powerful leader, in the wake of 9/11; he frightened everyone including the gutless Senators, Congress persons and even the Journalists to question him. The destruction he brought upon us and upon Iraq, Afghanistan and the world could have been prevented, had the American Media asked the right questions.

Here comes Modi – a partial replica of George Bush. Bush ruined it by his frightening talk, and Modi is doing it by his silence.  Both leaders were elected with huge mandate.

Shamefully, the Indian Media is flooded with the chumchas, who are ready to praise Lord Modi at every instance.  Here is Jefferson’s wisdom for them, “The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter….”  Thomas Jefferson.

Describing the role of the press, George A. Krimsky, the former head of news for the Associated Press’ and co-author of Hold the Press, writes, “In the wake of America’s successful revolution, it was decided there should indeed be government, but only if it were accountable to the people. The people, in turn, could only hold the government accountable if they knew what it was doing and could intercede as necessary, using their ballot, for example. This role of public ‘watchdog’ was thus assumed by a citizen press, and as a consequence, the government in the United States has been kept out of the news business.”   Indeed, a true journalist is someone who is not a chumcha of the government, and we the people should be skeptical of all the journalists who praise the government.

Modi lives in a bubble, there was a time he cried and was true to himself, shame on his chumchas, and he is not true to himself any more. His bubble is becoming translucent; he cannot see what is going on outside of it.

President Reagan advise to Modi would be, “Surround yourself with the best people you can find, delegate authority, and don’t interfere as long as the policy you’ve decided upon is being carried out.” And he would add, “Trust but verify”. Ronald Reagan.

Indeed, his dream is being jeopardized by his own chumchas and may bring his downfall, if he skip the verify part.

Sab ka saath sab ka vikas – that is, working together brings prosperity to all. His administration is doing everything to compel people not to work together and ripping their liberties and hell bent on dividing India. They are telling what an Indian can eat or not eat, believe or not believe.  The process of blatant discriminating against Muslims in employment and housing has begun, and on and on and on. Modi’s eerie silence on the issue is chilling, he is being told, and everything is alright sir. My hoon na!

Modi’s slogan, “We will build toilets and not temples” brought a lot of joy to the Indians. He is the first leader of independent India to even think and do something about it.  But his men and women are hell bent on forcing religious conversions, vandalizing churches and pushing a pluralistic Hindu faith into becoming a violent religion.

Does he want this or is he being bullied into silence? Whatever it is, he needs to tear the bubble and reconnect with people and speak up.  Indians are gutsy people and will bring him down as they did with the Almighty Indira Gandhi.

Skepticism is good and without which nothing good can come, and I understand the concerns people have.  In 2014,  I wrote, “I do connect with him now, and I will stick my neck out and say, things will get better under Modi Sarkar, good days are coming for every Indian regardless of his or her affiliation. “  I am withdrawing my neck now, until he comes out of the bubble and restores sanity and cohesiveness of India.

I thank Dr. Thomas A. Kodenkandath/Thommy, a Scientist by profession, and a cartoonist by hobby for drawing the Modi in Bubble cartoon precisely depicting the status of Mr. Modi. He is a graduate of  Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) and is a recipient of several awards, including the Kerala State Lalithakala Academy Award for editorial cartooning

 Thank
you
