Texas Faith: The poor will always be with you, but shouldn’t they get a raise?

Comments Off on Texas Faith: The poor will always be with you, but shouldn’t they get a raise?
Every religion is invoking responsible capitalism:  “Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you (New Testament).” You shall pay them their wages daily before sunset, because they are poor and their livelihood depends on them (Old Testament); “Give to the worker his wages before his sweat dries (Quran).” The other religions offer the same wisdom.
Let the worker “live his life,” take care of his family, be healthy and come back to work the next day motivated to work and be more productive. Investing in the health, prosperity of the worker ensures success of the business. You take care of him as he takes care of y0ur growth and both will prosper.

Texas Faith: The poor will always be with you, but shouldn’t they get a raise?

Wal-Mart, long known for its low wages, is giving employees pay raises.
Wal-Mart, a company not known for its generosity, made headlines recently with its decision to give half a million employees pay raises above the minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. The company said all of its U.S.workers would earn at least $9 an hour by April and at least $10 by next February.
Even these planned raises fall short of what labor experts consider a “living wage.” Christine Owens, executive director of the National Employment Law Project, told The New York Times that the persistence of workers and supporters was what brought the higher pay.
Still, Owens said the changes aren’t good enough. “When compared to the $16 billion in profit that the company rakes in annually, Wal-Mart’s promise of $10 an hour — which even for a full-time worker is not enough to keep a family of four out of poverty — is meager,” she told The Times.
Prices and wages in our capitalist society are generally determined by market forces: You charge what shoppers will pay, and you pay what workers will accept. Many people of faith are concerned with the financial struggle of the lower middle class and have been pushing for higher pay for these workers.
The Bible and the Quran talk about paying wages promptly (before sundown in the Bible, before a “worker’s sweat has dried” in the Quran). There are also verses about usury and the laborer deserving his wages. But there aren’t many specifics about how much workers should be paid, of course.
Here’s a sampling of verses:
New Testament James 5:4 (New International Version)
Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.”
From the Quran:
“Give to the worker his wages before his sweat dries.”
 Old Testament:
You shall not withhold the wages of poor and needy laborers, whether other Israelites or aliens who reside in your land in one of your towns. You shall pay them their wages daily before sunset, because they are poor and their livelihood depends on them; otherwise they might cry to the Lord against you, and you would incur guilt.”
Deuteronomy 24:14-5
Here’s a question in which our religious faith could collide with our belief in the capitalist system: Do you think employers are under any obligation to pay more than the minimum wage to ensure that employees have enough money to stay off welfare? Or is it good enough to pay the minimum required by law?
Our panelists consider this question on the jump:
Mike Ghouse, President, America Together Foundation (Foundation for Pluralism)
How much a worker should be paid is a function of the market forces, responsible capitalism to keep us within the moral bounds of the society, and growth wages for a sustainable economy. The emphasis is on responsibility and growth.
It is critical to understand that our economy is driven by our wants rather than our needs. If we strictly go by the needs, no one needs a new computer, a new i6 or Samsung, or new clothes and new suits, endless variety of makeup, and designer hand bags, nor do we need to employ people, as we can do it ourselves; raise our own cows, chicken, wheat, veggies, fruits and cotton.
Way back in 1983, I was a vice president of a fire protection company, and one day, the IBM folks descended on us trying to sell us computers. We did not need then —  we managed everything the old-fashioned way, making accounting entries by hand.  Thanks for the blue suits for being persistent, finally we wanted them and had them and grew the business with efficiency, accuracy and timely data.
Morality is a product of different people working, playing, marrying, eating and schooling together.  Of course, religious wisdom is a major contributor to the morals of the society.
When the holy books advise; “Look!
Indeed, all of them are invoking responsible capitalism: Let the worker “live his life,” take care of his family, be healthy and come back to work the next day motivated to work and be more productive. Investing in the health, prosperity of the worker ensures success of the business. You take care of him as he takes care of y0ur growth and both will prosper.
Our economy would not have grown; we would not have enjoyed the quality of life on our own without the labor that produces it and capital that risks producing.
If we still had a $2.25 minimum wage, the employees could not afford to rent an apartment and be healthy, and that would have cut off the growing of apartment buildings and the jobs they create, the convenience stores would have not sprung up, new and better ways of living would not have happened. Every business you see, every luxury you have and every convenience you enjoy is a direct result of increased wages that stimulate the economy.
Religion has offered sound advice. You pay the wages for the worker to live a life that will add growth, and not merely get by. Wal-Mart will grow further if it raises its minimum wages to $10. It will not eat into its profit, but add more revenues paid through the incremental increase in price, a driving engine of growth.

Urdu Language Opportunities in Dallas

Comments Off on Urdu Language Opportunities in Dallas
Urdu Language Opportunities | Website: www.UrduHindi.net

There was a time when High School kids took German, French or Latin as an optional language to learn, then Spanish became popular, and with the amount of business we do in China, a lot of people went for Chinese. My own daughter took German, which is lost as it is not practiced by her in her daily life. I wish Urdu was an option then, she and my son could have talked with me  and my family in Urdu and enjoyed the Bollywood films without straining to read the text at the bottom.

Now there is a new option emerging for schools, colleges and business field; Urdu.

Urdu-Hindi together is the 2nd most understood and spoken language in the world.  I would call it Urdu or Hindi to mean both, the entire Hindi or Urdu Vocabulary is embedded in each other’s dictionary. Many a poetry books carry a poem in 3 scripts; English (called Roman), Devanagari (Sanskrit) and Urdu (Farsi) to make it easy for those who don’t know the two indigenous scripts. Nearly a Billion people speak Urdu-Hindi.

If you or your kids have to take an optional language, consider Urdu. Good efforts were made by communities and Hindi is being taught in many schools and colleges now. As India will become the 3rd largest economy, and still retains its 2nd spot in population, and in collaboration with Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, it will become 2nd largest economy within a few decades. It is time to lay the foundation and get our kids and us ready to see a day when Urdu-Hindi will become a language of necessity to conduct business, a large amount of business and communications.

Thanks to the Bollywood films, many in South East Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa are learning the words and phrases. The other day a Guatemalan Taxi driver surprised me on my way to Love Field, he was playing Fun Asia Radio, and was throwing many phrases at me, that was impressive. My late wife watched Lagaan in a hotel in Costa Rica, and one of my Algerian friends started humming  “Mera tujh se hai pehle ka naata koi” she said that the film ran for a full month and they had to stand in the line to get the ticket.

The Chief Editor for Saudi Gazette writes quite a lot about India and Pakistan, he went to school in Karachi and speaks Urdu fluently. There is a Jewish business man in Fort Worth, he speaks broken Urdu.  The owner of a Thai Restaurant sings and explains the whole meaning of Baharo Phool Barsao, Mera Mehboob Aaya hai.” We walked into New York Deli on Frankford, owned by a Russian, the moment he saw my wife in Sari, he started Raj Kapooring,  “mera Joota hai Japani and repeating Lal topi Roosi, Lal topi Roosi, Lal topi Roosi…”. Some one from Ghana has seen Gunga Jumna 10 times!

In Cancun a road side grill sells Tandoori Chicken as Tandoori Chicken, he was calling me, “Aao, Aao, Tandoori Chicken Khao”  Ah, get this, my daughter in laws father is Malaysian in oil business, he tell me he was in Siberia, the lonely deserted cold place – there was an Indian Restaurant among some five others, that’s right, one in five people on the earth are Desi’s. This language Urdu-Hindi has great potential for our kids and grand kids. If you have experienced some such things, please write in the comments section below.

Additionally, if you learn the Urdu Script, it would be easy to learn Arabic Language with so much business we conduct, and will conduct,  this would be an asset to our kids or even ourselves.

There was yet another time, just some 30 years ago, we did not have a direct flight from Dallas to any one of the South Asian Nations, today we have plenty of airlines flying to those destinations everyday, and it will continue to increase. This language Urdu will take a prominent spot on the world stage, and it is time that we the Americans of Native and Desi heritage not miss the boat.

Indeed, almost all of the Bollywood films carry the common language understood by a vast majority of the people of Subcontinent. However politics creeps in and reduces the language’s reach. It particularly happens  when the news segment hits the airwaves, Hindi gets heavily Sanskritized or Urdu gets Farsi-ized reducing the number of people who can understand either in full. Even me, who has a good working knowledge (writing, reading and speaking) in both the scripts, find it difficult to watch the Sanskritized Hindi or Farsi-ized Urdu. News is not a big part of our lives, just skip the news part and you will be fine, and connect with anyone and any where in the subcontinent.

You can go to India or Pakistan and even cities in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka and speak the generic language, the language of the Bollywood Films, and you will be able to communicate to a larger segment of the population anywhere in the world.

If you sing Hindi songs professionally you have to learn pronouncing the words properly and almost all of the singers and actors in Bollywood (world’s largest film industry) learn the language of Urdu.

If you have the option to choose a foreign language in the school, Urdu  is an attractive choice and a good business asset. Urdu will make a big come back.

The leaders who are taking this initiative forward are: Mr. Amin Tirmizi, Mrs. Talmeez Fatima Burni, Mr. Like Ali Khan, Dr. Akbar Haider and Dr. Amer Suleman.  I have taken the tiny responsibility of administrative support.

I am developing this article as a survey to see how many kids and adults have an interest in joining the Urdu classes. A lot of benefits are offered right now as an incentive for kids.

I urge my Urdu-Hindi friends to write a sentence or a few words to be quoted in the article that we will publish in a News paper. Let it be no more than 50 words.

On my part, my tiny contribution to the vast Urdu-Hindi literature would be through a brand new stream of poetry that focuses on Pluralism, and we have already conducted several Mushaera-Sammelans on the topic and hope to continue them.

Last year, Dr. Amer Suleman of the Urdu Ghar fame experimented with his kids,  on Father’s Day, he asked them to speak to him in Urdu and learn at least 25 words as his Father’s Day gift, and they did, and my son did it too. We had sent that note to all the Desis’ on my lists.

Through America Together Foundation, we are hoping to see the need for starting classes in Urdu language affiliated with established schools and colleges, and if we have enough members of the community wanting it, we can start soon.  Are you ready?

At America Together Foundation, our Mission is to educate, entertain and invoke critical thinking in creating a cohesive environment to work, socialize and function effectively.

Urdu Couplets are elixir for brain, learning prevent dementia

You don’t have to believe this, but it is research done by Doctor Uttam Kumar. Urdu Couplets are elixir for brain; learning the language helps prevent dementia.

A recent study by the Center for Bio-Medical Researches (CBMR), Lucknow, suggests that reading Urdu passages helps in brain development. Learning Urdu also has a role in delaying the onset of dementia, besides helping children with learning disabilities. The work, which has made it to the recent edition of international journal ‘Neuroscience Letters’.

Urdu is the deepest language and therefore reading it involves more areas of the brain, which is good for mental health,” said Kumar adding, “Urdu has two more advantages over others — visual complexity of letters and direction of writing.”

Netanyahuism – is he capable of bombing Israel to flip the elections?

Comments Off on Netanyahuism – is he capable of bombing Israel to flip the elections?

NETANYAHUISM is calling Bibi’s antics as his own and not a representation of the will of the people of Israel. What he does in the name if Israel amounts to
Netanyahuism, his actions are not supported by the majority of the Israelis.

Is Netanyahu capable of mischief? Can he set up rockets from Hamas and scare the devil out of the Israeli voters and win the elections.

Letter to Israeli voter – Kudos to Peter Beinart

Comments Off on Letter to Israeli voter – Kudos to Peter Beinart
Blog: TheGhouseDiary.com  | Letter to Israeli voter   Kudos to Peter Beinart
If you reelect Netanyahu, you risk losing the U.S.
Peter Beinart failed to mention that even the Jewish Americans cast nearly 70% of their vote to Barack Obama, both the times. By the way, it is one of the best letters written to the people of Israel, link included at the bottom
Workers hang a giant campaign poster showing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.I am a Muslim and a supporter of Israel, and believe in long term security of Israel and Justice for the Palestinians, one will not happen without the other. Even though I am 62; I fit the profile of Peter Beinart along with millions of other Americans.  Obama has 55% approval rating right now.
Israel’s security is placed in perpetual compromise by Mr. Netanyahu, it’s time Israel has a leader who talks and acts peace and not  destructive to its security.  He is continuously isolating Israel in the community of nations. A whopping 161 out of 166 Nations want him to behave and he violates all the times, it is slap in their face.
The rise in Anti-Semitism around the world is actually anti-Netanyahuism rather than Anti-Semitism.  United Nation resolutions are trashed regularly  bringing more isolation.
I am fully empathetic with Jewish people and their history, and have a solid record on that, I have stood up with Jews, teach about saying never again and write extensively in my Israel Palestine dialogue blog. I have a full piece in writing about the rise in Anti-Semitism and how to reverse that. Netanyahu is jeopardizing the long term security of Israel.  He is not a peace maker by any stretch of the imagination. He is restless and won’t let anyone rest either.
I am for the security for Israel and justice for the Palestinians, and believe that it will happen and is on the horizon, and the only hurdle is Netanyahu.

47 Backstabbers who are compromising on America's Security

Comments Off on 47 Backstabbers who are compromising on America's Security
Stabbing in the back of your own president will come to haunt the 47 Republican Senators who are working to derail the nuclear agreement that is being negotiated with Iran. They wrote to the enemy that President does not have the authority to negotiate peace, thus weakening America’s position in securing an agreement with Iran for the safety of Israel, America and the world.
Now the hopeless opportunist men like Bush and Scot walker are seeing this as a last ditch effort to gain any support they can from the reckless men from among GOP. There will always be a % of people who want war, who want to destroy others, and who cannot live in peace.

We the people are made up of Republicans, Democrats and Independents, extremists on the left and the right, and moderates. What do we need to do? The good people among us who want peace and stability around the world need to speak up, and perhaps raise our voices to let the Senators and hopeless men know that we rather have peace.

War brings destruction to the common American, not them. In each war we sacrifice nearly 5000 men and women, people lose jobs, homes and businesses get foreclosed with a shattered economy and piling up of budget deficit. At the end, we end the average American is the loser, and last was they were over 40 Million of us that endured it.
We don’t need to reduce ourselves to be animals who resolve their conflicts with their God given horns, fangs and paws, we need to be humans and resolve it through our God given ability to dialogue.
More coming up.
Thank you

India bans "India's daughters" a documentary about Rape. Shame on the leaderhsip

Comments Off on India bans "India's daughters" a documentary about Rape. Shame on the leaderhsip

This documentary is about the shameless culture of rape and the courage of ordinary Indians to take a bold stand against it. The leadership thinks it is made to defame India and has banned the documentary. Those who are concerned about the honor of India, should defend the victims of rape rather than the rapists, and work on changing the ugly misogynistic culture than blaming and banning the documentary.

Netanyahu responsible for rise in Anti-Semitism

Comments Off on Netanyahu responsible for rise in Anti-Semitism

Published at: http://nabsites.net/demo/netanyahu-responsible-for-rise-in-anti/

I severely condemn rise in Anti-Semitism and hold Netanyahu directly responsible for it. I challenge the Israelis to reverse the rogue policies of Netanyahu and see a dramatic fall in Anti-Semitism.

This is a serious matter and unless the moderate Jews wake up and save Israel, Netanyahu will ruin it and Isolate Israel from every one. The young American Jews see that, and one day they will wake up and say enough is enough. Netanyahu is not a peace maker.

I am for security of Israel and justice for the Palestinians, one will not happen without the other. More about it at www.Israelpalestinedialogue.com, The Muslim Holocaust guy , www.HolocaustandGenocides.com, and Standing up for Jews

The latest United Nations resolution called for stopping the settlements – that is a vote of 161 Nations out of 166, only 5 nations voted against it including Israel and us.  Don’t you think it is a slap in the faces of 161 nations? Do they have reason to be pissed off at Netanyahu for the violations, and us for letting him get away with it? This is just one item, there are a lot more violations.

Alon Ben-Meir in an article, “A message to Netanyahu, enough is enough” writes, “This delusionary claim is an insult to European governments and the nearly 1.5 million Jews who live, work, and flourish in Europe. The irony is that Netanyahu represents neither the Jews around the world nor even the majority of Israeli Jews, other than the fraction who voted for Likud in the previous election. “

and, “he brought Israel’s indispensable relations with the US to a state of crisis, infuriated European leaders, embarrassed Jews everywhere, and further isolated Israel.”

No people should be victims of others’ prejudices and hate. It is not acceptable in civilized societies. It took a healthy  dip after the Holocaust and is going back up again in the last seven years, and here are the reasons that many deny, but how long we keep blaming others, instead of looking at the causes.

The few and the powerful right wing Jews and Muslims are too eager to scream Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia even if you sneeze,  instead of seeing the reality and fixing the causes that cause some of these stinky attitudes.

Anti-Semitism spreading across Europe, says study

Latest update : 2015-02-28

Jews were the target of harassment in more countries across the globe in 2013 than at any time in past seven years, a study released Friday showed, with hostility towards the religious group higher in Europe than any other world region.

The report by the US-based Pew Research Center combined the results of two separate indexes – one measuring government actions that curb religious beliefs and practices and another measuring acts of social religious hostility by private individuals or organisations.
It found that harassment and hostility against Jews, either by the government or members of the public, were recorded in 77 of 198 countries surveyed in 2013, up from 71 in 2012 and the highest number since Pew first began recording figures in 2007.
It was in Europe, however, that levels of social harassment were most alarming. The study found that Jews faced this type of harassment in 34 of the continent’s 45 countries (76 percent) – a higher share than in any other region and against a global average of 25 percent.
“In France, three men attacked a teenager who was wearing a kippah in Vitry-Sur-Seine in March, threatening, ‘We will kill all of you Jews’,” said the report. “In Spain, vandals painted a large swastika on the walls of a bull ring in the city of Pinto in August, along with the words “Hitler was right.”
“And in Norway, the newspaper Dagbladet published a controversial cartoon in May that appeared to be mocking the practice of circumcision.”
The report comes at a time when fears over growing anti-Semitism are causing concerns across Europe.
France in particular has faced a worrying rise in anti-Jewish acts in recent months, with a deadly January 9 attack on a Paris kosher supermarket, just days after Islamic extremists shot dead 12 people at the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, further fuelling religious tensions.
A rise in anti-Semitism as been cited as one of the reasons for 7,000 Jews leaving France for Israel in 2014, according to Israeli government figures, twice as many as in the previous year.
Christians and Muslims face most harassment
The situation for Muslims in Europe was not much better, the study found, with harassment recorded in 32 countries, or 71 percent – again much higher than the global average of 34 percent.
The report cited examples such as bloody pigs’ heads being placed at a site of a planned mosque in Germany and threatening letters sent to several mosques and Muslim cultural centres in Ireland.
When all religions were taken into account, two-thirds of European countries saw instances of harassment by organised groups. In a case in Italy, for example, four men were sent to prison after they published lists of Jewish residents and businesses on neo-Nazi websites.
And in four out of ten European countries, there were reported incidents of individuals being assaulted or forced from their homes or places of worship in retaliation for religious activities.
In Poland, arsonists set fire to the door of a mosque in Gdansk, while in Greece several Jehovah’s Witnesses’ houses of worship and mosques were set ablaze in multiple cities throughout the year.
The Pew report combined the results of two separate indexes – one measuring government actions that curb religious beliefs and practices and another measuring acts of social religious hostility by private individuals or organisations.
It found that overall restrictions on religion, whether social of governmental, were high or very high in 39 percent of countries, down from 43 percent the year before.
Christians and Muslims, the worlds’ two largest religions making up more than half of the global population, faced harassment in the highest number of countries, at 52 percent and 50 percent respectively.
Among the world’s 25 most populous countries, the highest overall levels of restrictions were found in Burma, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan and Russia.
China had the highest level of government restrictions of 25 most populous countries in 2013, while India had the highest level of social hostilities.

Naked woman on man's back, how do you free yourselves?

Comments Off on Naked woman on man's back, how do you free yourselves?
It pains me to see some of my friends obsessed with intense “dislike” or “hate” for someone. No matter what the topic is, or what happens that is all they want to talk about.  I feel their pain, and wish I could help them free themselves and see other things in life.
The following story has helped several friends, and I hope it helps some of your friends.
Two Buddhist monks were waiting for the flooding to recede on a stream so they can cross it. A pregnant woman joins them and all the three waited for a few hours and started talking about crossing it any way.  The woman asks the monks, if they can help her cross.

The Monks looked at each other, and the junior says “No” to the lady, while the senior monk asks her to ride on his back and he will carry her over across the flooded stream. So they crossed and the senior dropped her and the monks resumed walking.

After about 5 minutes, the junior could not hold it anymore and blurted out, “You are supposed to be a role model for me and resist touching or feeling a woman, and instead you carried that woman on your back, her whole body was rubbing against yours, her breasts were pressed on your back and you were holding her legs… did you enjoy that?

The senior monk realized the gravity of the situation and stopped, looked into the eyes of the junior and said. When I dropped that woman 5 minutes ago, she was out of my mind,  but you are still carrying her.

I dealt with two individuals this week, one of them dropped and the other one propped the question again. So, I tried this time with religion, he is a Christian and I mentioned to him that “forgiveness” is the central theme in every religion including the teachings of Jesus. Forgiving brings relief and freedom.

The kid is an Islamophobe, I asked, do you want to know what Islam says about it? He reluctantly shouted what?  The person who God loves most is the one who forgives, he said really? Looks like he is going to study about it and I hope he does and frees himself up.

Do you have people you need to forgive? Do it now, and find the relief from obsession with dislike or hate for the other. You’ll be happy that you did.

Thank you
