Common Sense Islam

Justice is one of the 17 Values of Islam – 09/06/21

If it is not common sense, then it is not Islam. How does “Justice” contribute towards safe and secure societies? Justice verses in the Quran have a definite formula – read three sentences before and three after the given verse to fully understand the meaning. More on the program.

Dr. Safi Kaskas and Mike Ghouse will present the program. The word Justice is a synonym for the word Islam. However, some of the Muslim majority nations’ practices are contrary to the teachings of Islam, evidenced in the chapter fixing Sharia laws. Regardless of what Muslim practices, the central value of Islam remains Justice.

The United States, Canada, UK, and a few other democracies are thriving well because there is the rule of law. The Rich and poor, influential and unknown, woman or a man, child or a senior feel secure living their lives in these nations. That takes away the apprehensions and tensions and gives them the freedom to better their lives. In the process, they will contribute to the overall goodness of society.

How does the truth contribute to a better world? How does it affect us all in today’s context? You’ll not believe the number of times the Quran has emphasized Truth- one up value over any constitution, as there is no 5th in Islam

Islamic values are the essence of Islam; these values contribute to creating a better world to include all of God’s creation. God does care that we respect his entire creation—the whole universe. Everything in the universe except our interactions with fellow humans is programmed to be in harmony. The free will bestowed upon us creates conflicts among fellow humans, and for our good, we must mitigate conflicts, and nurture goodwill, forge peace, and balance.

Islah-al-Alam, that restoring the world to harmony that God had originally created.

The essence of Islam is to create cohesive societies where each of us feels secure about who we are, regardless of our faith, race, ethnicity, culture, and other uniquenesses.

Dr. Safi Kaskas, the man who translated the Quran in easy-to-understand American English called “The Quran, a contemporary understanding,” coupled with 3000 comparable verses from the Bible, and I have started sharing the Islam that most Muslims believe but did not have the material to look at it.

We have identified 17 values of Islam in the book American Muslim Agenda that we want to share with fellow Americans, and it can be a curriculum to teach about Islam. Both the books are available at Amazon.com with our names.

If it is not common sense, then it is not Islam.

Who are you accountable to?

First of all, we are accountable to ourselves. We all have been embedded with a conscience, that serves as our monitor if we are doing the right thing.

Dr. Kaskas explains in the video what accountability is, who you are accountable to, first yourselves, then God, Community, Nation and in today’s context. How do good societies function when everyone is accountable.

Indeed, God says, 50:16 (Asad) Verily, it is We who have created man, and We know what his innermost self-whispers within him: for We are closer to him than his neck-vein.

Our actions and interactions are our free choice, we may not consider that we have choices, but we always have the option. It is an inalienable right uploaded into our brainwaves from the process of evolution.

We have not developed a convincing answer, other than the belief, that no one goes scot-free,

55:8 “So that you might never transgress the measure [of what is right]. ” Each one has to account for his excesses.

I am pleased to share a few of the many verses of guidance from the Quran.

Quran 6:164, “Say: Shall I seek Lord other than God, while He is the Lord of all things? No person earns any sin except against himself (only), and no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another. Then unto your Lord is your return, He will tell you that wherein you have been differing.”

You are responsible for what you do individually, and no one but you is responsible for your actions. You will never be burdened with others’ excesses. Remember, each one of us has a deep secret, that we do not share with anyone, we live with our nightmares and fears all by ourselves.

You are also responsible for keeping harmony within yourself, your family, the family, community, and the nations, but you are not accountable.

Quran 17:15, “Whoever goes right, then he goes right only for the benefit of his own self. And whoever goes astray then he goes astray to his own loss. No one laden with burdens shall bear another’s a burden. And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger.”

Quran 35:18, “And no bearer of burdens shall bear another’s burden; and if one heavily laden call another to (bear) his load, nothing of it will be laden even though he be near to kin, you can warn only those who fear their Lord unseen and perform prayers. And who purifies himself then he purifies for the benefit of his own self. And to God is the final return.”

Quran 39:07, “If you disbelieve, then God is not in need of you; He likes not disbelief for his slaves. And if you are grateful, He is pleased for you. No bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you what you used to do. He is the All-Knower of that which is in the breasts (Of men).”

Quran 21:13, “Do not run, and come back to your luxuries and your mansions, for you must be held accountable.

Quran 65:8, “Many a community rebelled against the commands of its Lord and against His messengers. Consequently, we held them strictly accountable and required them a terrible requital.”

Tawhid Oneness Of God From An Islamic Perspective

Dr. Safi Kaskas and Dr. Mike Ghouse present the 4 of 17 Islamic values and who they contribute to the well-being of society.

We have one president, one CEO, one boss, one man or woman of the house. There is always one we are all accountable to.

The purpose of oneness was the first step toward building a cohesive society. Subscription to the notion of one ultimate universal god was the need of the day.

A cohesive society is the dream of all humanity, where each human has a right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

An abstract idea of God that everyone could relate to was the need of the day. Thus, the concept of the oneness of God and the oneness of humanity was evolving to be a source of healing and bringing unity to the given diversity in Mecca.

Bob Crane on Muslims Together building a cohesive America

Every Sunday, we have two programs – This Sunday, Bob Crane will speak about Muslim Citizenship in public Square. Safi Kaskas and I will speak about the Ultimate Citizenship – The Al-Amin.

Please note, I wear three hats – as a Muslim, I speak, write and talk about Islam, and as an American, much of my work is about pluralism in religion, politics, society, and the workplace. As an Indian American, I stand up for the rights of minorities in India including Muslims. All of it is volunteerism. My mission in life is to open people’s hearts, minds, and souls towards each other. If we can learn to respect the otherness of others and accept their uniqueness, conflicts fade, and solutions emerge.

Bob Crane is the first Muslim American Ambassador, he served as the Deputy Director of the National Security Council, he was the principal foreign policy advisor to President Nixon. Since the early 1980s, Crane has worked full-time as a Muslim activist. From 1983 to 1986, he was the Director of Da’wa at the Islamic Center of Washington on Massachusetts Avenue. In 1986, he joined the International Institute of Islamic Thought as its Director of Publications and then helped to found the American Muslim Council, now defunct, serving as Director of its Legal Division from 1992 to 1994. In this capacity, he was the founding President of the Muslim American Bar Association. His service to America is immeasurable – Full bio at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_…

***WHAT IS THE ESSENCE OF ISLAM*** Zoom show on Sunday, July 25, 2021, 2:00-3:00 PM EST

What is the Essence of Islam? Islam remains a myth to many a people, including Muslims, simply because its purpose was rarely explained and its role vis-à-vis the humanity is seldom understood.

Many a Muslims have reduced Islam to mere rituals. Many of them believe that it is all about the five pillars, burqa, beard, and headgear. Sadly, that is how it is understood by fellow humans. Islam is much more than that. It is a way of life; Deen as Muslims prefer to call it and it is guidance for all humans.

Dr. Safi Kaskas and Dr. Mike Ghouse will share their work on the subject. “Did you know Islam was not for any group but a guidance book for all humanity? Indeed, it is about building cohesive societies for the common good of all humanity.

Essence of Islam is first one of the 17 series of universal values. Every Sunday 2-3 PM ES
